Sigur Rós on Tour
In 2022, Sigur Rós announced the opening dates of their first world tour in five years and hinted at the new album they've been silently working on in the studio -- the first of their albums to be released since 2013's Kveikur. The forthcoming record was quickly hailed as one of the most anticipated releases of the year, with an international community of fans always eager to hear what the experimental ensemble comes up with next. They say good things come to those who wait. And nearly a decade since their last album dropped, Sigur Rós is sure to deliver a live show that exceeds all expectations, airing never-before-heard songs alongside material drawn from their acclaimed 25-year discography. Wherever they play, the Reykjavík, Iceland, natives transcend language through their music. They make songs for which there are no words but rather an evocation of deep feeling, inspiration and delight. Wherever you catch Sigur Rós on tour -- Australia, Mexico, the United States, or anywhere else -- it makes no difference what language you speak or whether you can understand Jónsi's melodic, Icelandic lyrics. In fact, all the songs off their Grammy-nominated 2002 album ( ) were sung in a made-up language, leaving listeners to interpret their own meaning of the title-less songs that they could then transcribe in the blank pages of the album booklet. To appreciate all their music achieves, watch Sigur Rós in concert and experience artistry unlike any other.
Sigur Rós Live in Concert
Sigur Rós is an experimental post-rock band from Iceland with six No. 1 albums and three platinum records to their name. The trio -- comprised of frontman Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson -- has remained at the forefront of the international music scene since the band's 1994 conception. Sigur Rós became one of the most celebrated alternative groups throughout the years, praised for consistently breaking ground with their ethereal and orchestral production. It's this atmospheric sound that Sigur Rós is best known for, along with Jónsi's siren-like falsettos that resonate with a celestial lullaby. The progressive outfit's 1999 breakout album, Ágætis Byrjun, received the inaugural Shortlist Music Award, a prestigious prize created to recognize independent releases. They went on to produce a prodigious volume of work, releasing a total of 10 albums and 12 EPs within a span of 20 years. Their No. 1 chart-topper "Glósóli" and signature track "Hoppípolla" appeared in the 2005 film Takk, winning a trio of Icelandic Music Awards. Sigur Rós has also won three MTV Europe Music Awards and in 2004 received their first Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album for ( ).
Great show, great atmosphere, would recommend to anybody!
I went to Osheaga in Montreal about 2 years ago and saw them live. It was incredible, the sound, the lights. Its as if I was lost in the music and forgot about everything. They played their really popular tracks and I recommend everyone that likes them to see them!!!! I am still looking to see when they come back to Canada
My husband and I were blessed enough to see Sigur Ros on Monday, May 27. 2013. It was the first time I have viewed them in concert, and though I am very familiar with their music, I was unsure how they would be live. Sigur Ros are incredibly talented musicians, and their set was amazing! They played many of their better known works, and though they made all of their songs sound slightly different, they were immediately recognizable. They came out for a well deserved encore that was (I think) three songs. Though the band does not speak between pieces, they seemed very gracious in the little that they did talk and did a big bow at the end. The crowd was very chilled out, exactly what I would expect at this venue. I also appreciated that the event was non smoking, even outside. My only complaint is the lack of parking. Apparently those familiar with the area parked in a school parking lot nearby, but since we were told that there were very few spaces, we had to take a cab from our hotel. I love the diversity of the crowd that Sigur Ros attracts, and it was obvious that everyone was extremely entranced with their music. Also, the visuals and lighting was impeccable, and really added to the sound. Overall I would highly recommend Sigur Ros to anyone, even those unfamiliar with their music- they were absolutely brilliant.
Sigur Ros is one of those bands that you must see live before you die. 3rd time seeing them and they were amazing as always. Was a rainy, muddy evening at Deer Lake Park but Sigur Ros is worth it!
Probably the best live show I have ever seen. Incredible, spiritual, uplifting!
the music was great. I am big sigur ros fan but the venue is not comfortable. It was rainy and cold. I think the circumstances ended up affecting how much we might have enjoyed the music.
The amount of cumulative talent on that stage is awe inspiring and beautiful. Its very obvious that they have a lot of talent and with their practise combined creates a seamless and unforgettable show.
One of the most original bands working today. Epic, moving and astounding. There are no other bands like Sigur Ros.
The show was incredible and one of my favourite shows of all time
Although a very different experience than their indoor shows, Sigur Ros was amazing as per usual. For the effects of the standing lightbulbs, other lights and video used in the show, it got better as it got darker. If I had the choice, I would prefer to see them inside again, but I will take any chance I get to see this amazing band.
Fabulous!! Who cares about rain, Sigor Ros wouldn't be the same indoors. Closing song (popplagid) was viscerally and multi-sensorily spectacular. Come back soon and often!!
It was kind of rainy, but still well worth standing in the rain! Their music just has so much power, and the displays are mesmerizing!
I wanted to see a show unlike anything I had seen, something that would make me feel something different! They succeeded in doing so and so much more! These guys are truly "LIVE" performers! Jonsi the lead singers voice was incredible sounded exactly like the albums! It was a "symphony of sound" a"must see."
My boyfriend and I went to this concert on Saturday night and we were blown away! Sigur Ros completely moved me with their music. When they played Hoppipolla, the music overcame me and transported me to somewhere else in my thoughts and memories. This is the song that played when I finished my first half-marathon last year and I re-lived the experience of picking up speed in the last two kilometres and running for the finish line and the moment of sheer ecstasy when I finally crossed it. This concert brought that memory, and so many others, flooding back to me.
Sigur Ros was pretty incredible as expected. Apart from their performance, very well done lighting and visuals as well!
Great event.......music was amazing....think the vocals may not have been sung live but never-the-less the venue, music and visuals were stunning. Would definitely see them again. Preferably an outdoor venue on the water. The set was very simple and cool.
I did not like the new paperless tickets - we had to get there early then were told we could not leave the theatre after obtaining our tickets. We complained as we wanted to go out to eat somewhere (1.5 hrs till concert) and finally they told us to see someone at the desk. She initialed our tickets and we were able to leave Sigur Ros was beyond words - the sound - the highlights - the Voices - the instruments - more than I ever expected - absolutely amazing in every aspect. The crowd was so respectful - they put on an excellent concert - We enjoyed every minute of their production.
Amazing band! Love hearing the group live, the ACC was a perfect venue to see them!
good..................music wise.....sound was great and effects great....booze way to much money
This band is a must see. No if, and, or but's about it. The ACC was a perfect venue for the show, as they are a BIG NOISE type band. It was just pure perfection. I will be seeing them again and again, whenever they come back to town.
