About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

  • Enjoyable but tweaks needed

by Jmmc5168@gmail.com on 2022-11-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

First, Nancy Wilson was a big disappointment. Unprepared, no stage help, the whole band seemed disinterested, she and her lead singer couldnt harmonize and didnt blend well. It was a relief to both the band and audience when she left the stage. That lost 2 stars for us. Styx was amazing. Energetic. Youthful. Fantastic. Where it lost another star for us is that the music blasted out of amps way too large for the Jubilee Auditorium and became distorted and difficult to hear dispite the smaller venue that generally has excellent concert sound. The issue is, is bands like Styx can no longer fill a stadium and want to play at venues like the the Jubilee Auditorium, they need to be prepared to adjust their ampage and volume so their sound doesn't distort and is pleasurable for their audience, who are no longer teenagers.

  • Styx revival!!!

by DonnyBoy on 2022-11-01Abbotsford Centre - AbbotsfordRating: 4 out of 5

I was a bit hesitant at first sans the former lead singer. But I have to admit Gowan is a nice fit and with songs of his own available it made for a fun jog of the memory banks. The music was very good. The energy was very good. Tommy still rocks a guitar and the overall group dynamic was fun all night. Nancy Wilson’s Heart was nice but at a different level for sure. But we did get a patented leg kick!!!

  • Great performances

by Chinbopper on 2022-10-29Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Both Nancy Wilson and Styx performed fabulously. The musicianship and vocals were superb. Why only 4 stars? The missing star is for the lousy mix. Often the background vocals overpowered the lead vocals. Sometimes the bass was missing. If the mix was decent, it would have been an easy 5.

Great entertaining concert. Loved the energy of Larry Gowan and Styx.

  • Absolutely awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed ever moment

Love it all. Haven’t seen Styx since I was probably in my early 20’s

  • Styx/Heart

by Cheetah on 2022-10-26Brandt Centre - ReginaRating: 3 out of 5

I thought that The Heart component of the concert was lacking and I was disappointed that more of Heart songs weren’t played. Styx was a great, polished, band and nice to see the professionalism

  • Great Show Too Many Screens!

    by Q-tar on 2022-10-24Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Right from the first note it felt great to be back in the Canada Life Centre for a Rockin' Roll Show! We all felt that the Wilson Show was equally as good as the Sthe Styx headliner. Unfortunately I had three screens in my face distracting me from what was going on LIVE and in person on stage. the woman in front of me live streamed the entire show to a friend by a phone in her left hand plus she was recording the entire show for herself with a phone in her right hand. Her partner was also taking video of some choice songs. He was holding his phone right up in front of my face, not to interrupt what he was seeing of course. no problem destroying my experience. if someone wants to take a quick picture from there seat, no problem but if pay for a seat, drive in from Selkirk to watch a show, buy food etc. and i continue to have to have screens in my face I'll just stay home and watch my big screen TV. I like to have my phone with me just as much as the next guy but in this situation, ban the dam phones so people can live in the moment and enjoy the concert. PS. Looking for KISS, Queen, Tom Jones, Genesis, The Stones, The Who and the return of Ringo Star.

  • Great Show

by Doggy on 2022-10-23Brandt Centre - ReginaRating: 5 out of 5

If you like the style of Styx, you will love this show. They are energetic for an older band and fun. Nancy Wilson's Heart are a great opening act. We loved the show and wished it could have been longer!

  • Did not disappoint

by AndytheBORG on 2022-10-22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

A crowd of mature rockers were treated to an evening of classic Styx music that did not disappoint the faithful fans in the audience. The Styx catalog of hits was added to with Crash of the Crown. Gowan performed "A Criminal Mind" to the fans cheers. A very entertaining event.ñ

  • Waited 47 Years

by DJ Jay-Ree on 2022-10-22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a fan of both these bands since forever. Purchased the first released albums for both bands. Although Ann Wilson and Denis DeYoung were absent, the concert was exhilarating right from the start. Nancy Wilson’s Heart was a perfect choice for warming up the crowd. And the surprise appearance of Lawrence Gowan leading Styx through all our favorites was nothing but amazing. Left the stadium smiling with songs of my youth ringing in my head. What a great night.

  • Styx and Nancy Wilson and Heart together

by Bennie on 2022-10-22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Styx was totally awesome!! Haven’t lost a beat in their decades together. Love GOWAN!!! Hearts new singer has an amazing voice!! Sounds almost like the original!! Well worth going to see!! Definitely a five star rating from me!!

  • Styx/ Heart ❤️

by Rose on 2022-10-21Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

My best friend and myself went to the Styx/ Heart Concert at Canada Life Center.. what an amazing concert 🎶 as I was not disappointed at all ! The music of both bands kept myself remembering all the hits from the 70’s & 80’s Era. Fantastic performance by both of these groups. I would attend more concerts like this from the original performers if more concerts were booked at the Canada Life Center.

  • Exhilarating

by Dean on 2022-10-21Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Nancy Wilson was super but Kimberly Nicole was fantastic. It is hard not to be enthralled when she presents a voice like that. Powerful yet easy to understand. Styx certainly left it all on the stage. Lawrence performed with such exuberance it would be difficult not to be entertained

  • Disappointing

by Linda on 2022-10-21Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

Styx is not the band they used to be. Although Gowan has been the lead singer for 20 years, to the Canadian ear, Styx just sounds like Gowan singing Styx songs. Not an approximation of the wonderful voice of Dennis deYoung that US fans seem to think Gowan is (given that most US fans have not spent years hating Gowan's songs, especially A Criminal Mind. Gowan's high school musical theatre antics are a distraction and detract from the rock genre that Styx is known for. A major gaffe when the sound engineers used a pre-recorded vocal for Gowan's long high note in Suite Madam Blue (the audience unknowingly gave Gowan a round of applause for a recorded voice), and then they forgot to turn all the microphones back on for the entire band when they got to the part where they sing "America" in harmony. Finally someone realized the microphones were off and turned them all on at once. Missed you, Dennis de Young! Won't be missing you, Gowan. And I guess, won't be seeing Styx again after this fiasco.

  • Awesome show...

by Wes on 2022-10-21Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

They were totally awesome from the moment the concert started to the very last note. Very entertaining and spot on with both their musicianship and vocals. The lighting effects matched the mood they were portraying. Even when they were talking to the audience there was not an empty moment. They were also very personable to the audience. I have been to many concerts and am also a former professional musician and i can honestly say they were the best concert i have been to (and that says a lot). I was actually sad when it all ended (had to end somtime; lol)...but completely satisfied. I would definitely buy tickets if they came back.

  • Top notch experience!

  • Styx/Nancy

by A Mac on 2022-10-21Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Good show, music was great. They played most of the big songs which was excellent. Styx played so well and the singing was top notch. Gowan represents Canada with class and humour.

  • Styx and Anne Wilson's Heart

    by Ravensong42 on 2022-10-21Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Both bands were great. The energy and emotion was over the top great! I love Larry Gowan, both as a solo artist and with Styxx, it was emotional to see older members brought back, even just for a few songs. I was in 4th row, and would spend the money to be in front again!
