Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

That was absolutely incredible. I cried they were so good.
I was surprised how well they sounded and their playing was out of this world. Gowan was the perfect co-lead singer (Master of Ceremonies) and I want whatever he's on!! Didn't disappoint as they played EVERY hit and the rockin' ones shook the Jube. Count me as impressed that guys in their 60's (some almost 70's) can put on a show like this. 5-star.
I have been to a number of rock concerts over the years, and I will say that Styx is by far one of my favourites. The music is of course, awesome! the language is clean, the songs are clean. The energy from the members of the band is fantastic. Gowen is superb on every level. They are musically tight, vocally exciting and show a level of musical talent this world rarely sees anymore. I took my teen daughter and she loved it. Light show and stage effects were good. I do not think you will ever walk away disappointed having seen Styx live. Great show guys!
Have seen this amazing group 5-6 times over the last 3 decades and they just keep getting better and better. Tight vocals. Amazing keys and guitar licks. Can’t wait to see them again soon!
Went to see Styx at the Southern Alberta Jubilee concert hall (The Jube) on Monday. In the words of my partner, Andrea, they put on a "phenomenal" show. They come out on stage very well dressed and start with the lead number from Crash of the Crown, their latest recording. What followed was a wonderful mix of hit songs primarily from their 70's era that had a majority of the crowd singing along to known favourites from that time. Added into this was the title track to the latest album as well as Crimimal Mind from Lawrence Gowan's early recordings... a haunting track that still gives me goose-bumps when I hear it live. The sound quality was excellent as I could make out lyrics easily from the vocals and the instruments blended well together. Overall, a professionally prepared and executed show. Some kudos to individual performances, Tommy Shaw for his clear and compelling vocals on so many tracks, JY for his impeccable guitar solos, and of course Todd Sucherman who is worth the price of admission just to see/hear his percussion virtuosity. And yet, the standout for me is Gowan. What an entertainer with his vocals, banter/humour, stage presence, dancing and moves through each song, etc., etc. a real pleasure to watch and listen to as well. A true entertainer. Styx is lucky to have such a capable replacement for Dennis DeYoung. Great show, great performances all around! Highly recommend all Styx fans to see this show.
Gowan was great the band was great all around one of the best shows ever.
They were okay but WAY to loud. I like louder music but this was off the charts loud. The bass drowned out the other guitarists and we could feel the vibration thru our bodies. My wife got a severe headache and we had to leave in the middle of the concert. - a one rating.
Styx gave a superb, fantastic, high energy performance with a group of highly talented muscicians. Friendly interaction with the crowd, powerful vocals & keyboards by Gowan like a muscian possessed & born to entertain had the crowds full attention. The drummer "cream of the crop" Awesome!! A great band who knows how to give the fans an expierence & a show to remember. A truly great performance !
What an awesome concert! We thoroughly enjoyed Nancy Wilson's Heart and of course STYX was amazing! Both iconic in their own rights. Both have been part of our lives, always. Awesome! Amazing! Such a simple concert - just what really matter - fabulous music - the best!!!! Like nothing else. We doubt that any band from today will be doing such a concert 50 years from now. We are so privileged to have grown up during the era of amazing bands such as these!!! We loved their energy and stories, too!!!
Styx did not disappoint! The performance was absolutely fantastic!
Nancy Wilson and Kimberley Nichole and band were amazing! I had goosebumps when Kimberley Nichole sang “Alone”. Very Talented! Nancy common this Woman is a legend to see her play that guitar was incredible! She is one of the bests! Or she is the best top female guitarist and we saw her live!!! Styx! The energy the vibe! Gowan! Wow! The drum kit.. amazing! My mom has been a fan for forever and this was a night for her, we had a great time! Only downside is the seating was not so comfortable and no space to stretch our legs.. this caused some knee pain but the venue was good to let us sit somewhere else!
Both Nancy Wilson’s Heart and Styx were amazing. You should bring more classic rock to Calgary like Journey, Aerosmith, foreigners, Alannah Myles, Billy idol, Bonnie Raitt, Boston, Guess Who.
Great Show. I have waited so long to see Styx live and was not disappointed. vocally awesome. Still put on a great live show. Todd is a phenominal drummer and Gowan is a great showman.
I’ve had every format of their music starting with 8 track up to current streaming downloads. Their live performance blows away all those “caned”experiences. Go see them.
Was pleasantly surprised. There guys were spot on with everything. One of the best concerts I have been to
What would have others I been a terrific show, with all the members of the band in top form, was nearly ruined by the overdriven Subs at the Jubilee Auditorium. We were 6th row Center and every bass note below C and every stroke of the kick pedal simply overwhelmed the tremendous harmonies and expert playing by everyone on stage. It may have sounded different up at the board (and hopefully it did) but where we were. The mix was muddled at best and completely overwhelmed by the subs at worse. Still, it was great to see the guys, really enjoying their last two albums and Nancy Wilson kicked ass!
I gave it 4 stars because I am really big fan of both Heart and Styx. Nancy Wilson for Heart was a disappointment. That part of the show they did not play much of their famous songs. However, Styx did a fantastic job. They put a very good show. I was awestruck Gowan did awesome job. Great showmanship. His piano work was out of this world. Styx did not disappoint. They could played for another couple hours and would not know that time went by. I got their autographs. I wish I could have met them. I am 80's girl through and through. I mostly listen to 70's and 80's. This group took me back there and my memories of listening to their music. Music saved me. I suffered a terrible loss just two weeks ago and Styx and their music now is saving me again. Thank you for the music. Continue to rock.
As always Styx is the best ever, we can’t wait until they come back again.
I first saw Styx in the early 1980s in Winnipeg, and they ROCKED that prairied town. Fast forward forty or so years and they haven't lost a step. I was especially impressed with Canada's own Lawrence Gowan (but you can call him Larry) on Keyboards and sharing lead vocal duties. It's especially comforting being able to sing along with 90 percent of the songs, mixed and performed to near studio quality. I highly recommend catching Styx and their latest lineup. It is money and time very well spent.
paid 350 for my "vip" seat I might as well bought general seating show was great seating arrangement questionable
