About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

  • Styx Concert - Niagara Falls Canada Sept. 17/09

by Wallyworld on 2009-09-23The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Styx never seems to put on a bad show, and this was no exception. The lights, the sound and everything was perfect. Have seen them a few times before and I can't wait to see them again! It was a nice surprize for Chuck make an appearance.

I had seen Styx prior at Casinorama and their show was amazing. Great songs with a fun and live atmosphere. They are great entertainers and musicians. I would highly recommend the show to anyone and it was worth every penny. Way to go Styx. You guys rock...

  • Styx can play the crowd

by ChoppersMate on 2009-09-21River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

Styx came out and from start to finish was a polished band. They certainly knew how to play the crowd. The newest member, Lawewnce Gowan, hit the keyboard like a seasoned pro. Playing backwards & twirling the piano at breaknet speeds, Gowan was worth the price of admission himself. What a great voice as well. I had thought the soundsystem was off a bit as the rest of the band's voices weren't coming through crystal clear, but when Gowan sang, everything sounded great Styx was one of the more interactive bands I've seen. Great concert.

  • Styx sounded great!

by THJH on 2009-09-21The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 4 out of 5

The show was very enjoyable and entertaining. They band sounded great and was very enthusiastic. Would love to have heard more songs! The "walrus" was a super rendition. Koodos to the band for their continued excellence and quality sound. The venue is a bit surreal for a rock concert- no line ups-very casual-polite ushers-no shoving - comfy seats -how refreshing!!!!! I was a tad disappointed with the balcony seat as I couldn't see Tommy Shaw for quite a few moments during the show as we were on his side in the balcony. Would have liked to be told on the seating chart that it is obstructed view and I would have opted for different seats.

  • Styx - Fantastic Band, superb venue!

by NandG on 2009-09-20The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Seen Styx many times as a teen, but now 33 years later, we still love their music...it takes us way back to when we were young and carefree! Avalon at Fallsview is a beautiful venue, not a bad seat in the house! Would highly recommend the show to any age! They sound as good live as their LP's back in the 80's! Loved it!

  • Excellent show by Styx

by StyxChix on 2009-09-20The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

This was the 17th time for me to see Styx, and they never fail to put on an excellent show. Styx enjoys performing for their audience and the audience responds with deafening approval to all their songs.

  • Styx/Gowan double delight!

by nanette on 2009-09-20The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Styx fan from the 70's. Loved the playlist, didn't have to hear the only 2 Styx songs that I hate - Mr. Roboto and Babe (80's) - thanks for that guys. Would like to substitute Foolin Yourself with Castle Walls but who am I, nobody! Love Styx. Love Gowan, saw Gowan in the 80's. All the guys look great, in fact they looked and dressed just like I remember seeing them back in the 70/80's - who would have thought that skinny jeans would come back but the guys look great in them! I think it is just amazing and lucky for Styx that they found such a cool guy and probably the only voice in the world that could fit into their band - Gowan. Keepin it real boys. Awesome show, band looked like they were having fun. Excellent venue.

  • Styx Rocked!

by Nicknamewhatnickname on 2009-09-19The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great concert! The guys seemed to be having a great time and the venue was small enough that we could see it all even though we had back row seats (must remember to buy tickets more promptly next time!!!)

  • Simply Awesome

by Wydlod on 2009-09-19The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

What a great theatre to see such a great band! Though they have been around for almost 40 years, they play with the energy of a newly formed band trying to announce themselves to the world !!

  • Styx still rocks

by tg109 on 2009-09-19Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 4 out of 5

Their performance was very good. Having graduated high school at their peak I would have liked to see more of their top tunes at the concert played in original form.

After all these years, that group can still sing just as well as they did years and years ago. Larry Gowan still has an amazing voice.

  • Great Concert - Styx

by hanstoon88 on 2009-09-19Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

A concert that really surprised me. i was a fairly big fan of Styx in the 80s and thought 'hey that sounds like fun'. I did not expect the concert to be so good. First of all I took my sister and she was very excited that Gowan was now one of the leads. Slowly ramping up the show i was amazed at the powerfulness of the band. In such a small venue i felt like i was having my own special rock concert. Gowan's keyboard skills were amazing. Criminal Minds was great. The highlight of the whole show for me was Come Sail Away which had everyone standing. Drummer, Todd was simply amazing, his drum solos were stunning, truly amazing drummer. The venue was great although i think almost borders on too small for this powerful band. It is a treat that you can have your own 'private' roch show though.

  • Styx was AWESOME!

by Pebbles1963 on 2009-09-19The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

WOW - what a show! The guys still create MAGIC after all these years. With the addition of "GOWAN" I don't know how they could make the show any more entertaining. GOWAN adds that extra "SPARK" that was missing once Dennis left the band. Good to see Chuck come out and still be able to ROCK! On top of that - it was his birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHUCK - thanks for the GREAT MUSIC. There was NOT one song that I didn't know - and afterall these years of playing together - they still sing the loves with 'PERFECTION". Kudos to the guys and may you continue to have a long, long career.

  • UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT

by StyxFanSteve on 2009-09-19The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Over the years, I have seen Styx perform live at least a dozen times, and their performance at this venue on Sept 18th was just phenomenal!! The band was tight, songs rang out like you were just hearing them for the first time, and best of all, they were having FUN! If anyone has yet to see this line up of Styx, you absolutely MUST! The chemistry and brotherly love between these guys has never been better, (ever!). Styx is a band that just gets better and better as time goes on. They play the hits like they are recording them for a cd, and their sound and harmonies are spot on. Lawrence Gowan replacing ex-frontman DDY is nothing but complimentary to the band, and a huge improvement in on-stage personna. For me, Styx was never really "Styx" without Tommy Shaw on lead guitar and vocals. He is a masterpiece of rock and roll artistry without exception, and I am and will continue to be thrilled by his performances leading this amazing band into the future. Tommy, I bow in your presence... ;-) James Young gets a huge nod of love and respect for his Styx roots and amazing guitar playing and vocals. Todd Sucherman is drummer extraordinaire and pounds the band through all of their hits with amazing timing and unmatched style and technique. Ricky Phillips retains the quiet nature of original bass player Chuck Panozzo (who by the way played with the band for several songs at this show... ROCK ON CHUCKIE!!! and Happy Birthday main man!) and fills out the sound with perfection to the max. Styx is without a doubt one of the most entertaining acts in Classic Rock, and will always be my personal favourite to see live. NOW GO GET YOUR TICKETS!!!

  • Styx was high energy non stop music

by Tangoway on 2009-09-19The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Gowan was amazing! ! ! I was hoping to hear one particular song that they did not play, so I was a little disappointed. The band members threw souvenirs into the audience, however the items did not make it to the balcony where we sat. I will catch one next year. I am looking forward to their return to this venue. I would definitely see them again. The drummer is unforgettable....absolutely amazing. I hope next time I hear "The Best of Times." I can wait till next year to hear the new lineup of songs. Until then I will play my albums.

  • Styx were Perfect
