About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

  • I can die a happy woman

by Marlisle on 2009-09-18River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

First of all the River Rock was amazing the venue didn't have a poor seat in the house. Now on to Styx...........In all my years of seeing rock bands and live shows, this was by far, one of the best rock performances I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. The energy and the vocals were exceptional. The band was so tight, and each note was perfection. Madame Blue brought me to tears. I will never forget this concert as long as I live. Like my title says ........... I can die a happy woman! Thank You for this memory Styx!

Went with my sister. We are both in our 40's just loved it. They played all the oldies. We sang and danced the night away. Bring them back and we will both be there again. This is one of the best shows ive seen at the Avalon. Cost was great.

If you have seen them before then you won't want to miss them for next time. Simply put ...they haven't slowed down. Gotta see them next time take my word for it. Gowan is the right fit.

  • High Energy , Highly Entertaining

Having seen Styx 3 times before 1980, I didn't know what to expect almost 30 years later. What i saw at the Avalon ballroom was band as tight musically and with a far greater stage presence than I remember. Where in the past, front man Dennis DeYonge would take most of the limelight, this version of Styx was a collective of great talent sharing the stage with each other. They were by all standards a great band that put on a great show. Gowan is an excellent fit with J.Y. and Tommy Shaw up front . Ricky Phillips on both base and guitar as well as Todd Sucherman on drums were brilliant . Having Chuck Ponozzo join fellow original James Young on stage in the later part of the night was a special moment. Not a bad song was played . The concert featured most of the best Styx era from Equinox, Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight with Lady from Volume II, Gowan's Criminal Mind and an "Styxified " version of I Am The Walrus. This is a show, that in my opinion , anyone who remembers the '70's and early '80's would enjoy. Huge talent , great presence and excellent selection of songs. I wish I had bought Friday's show as well.

  • Styx was right on!

by Chev on 2009-09-18The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Overall the performance was excellent. They seemed to be very fresh and relaxed, having come off a little break. Lots of interaction with the audience, good solid 20 minutes of encore, Blue Collar Man, some individual performances, classic Renegade to close. My only issue is the Avalon Ballroom itself. It provides a true in your face concert interaction as all seating is very close to the action, however whoever designed the floor seating and the lack of pitch and room to sit down, is no architect! The flooring should be more angled from front row to back to allow better visibility if your height is on the more shorter side and you always seem to get seated behind taller individuals. Next time (as I have seen them at NF 3 of 4 times), I will be hoping to get front row balcony to gain a diferent perspective of the stage. Overall, a very solid performance and will be going back to see them again and again. Keep up the good work, concerts like that are a great break from everyday life.

I'm a big Larry Gowan fan and went to see STYX for that reason. They put on a great show - lots of energy and enthusiasm from the band and the audience.

These guys are amazing and I just can't beleive how much energy they have on stage. They are so talented and make it look so effortless on stage. The Band looks like they really are having a nice time on stage and want to entertain the audience. The band really interacts very well with the crowd and WOW lots of giveaways during the concert. I would go again and again and again.

  • Styx never disappoints!

by Styxfreak on 2009-09-16Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

Once again, Styx came out and put on a show that is professional, entertaining and totally crowd engaging! We have seen these guys so many times it actually gets embarrassing, but they keep on rocking the old tunes and every few years come out with something totally different - like a concert with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra of Cleveland . If you want some 'oldies' that sound just like you remember them on the record album, you're in for a treat. OK, so Gowan is not Dennis deYoung in terms of perfect pitch, but he holds his own when it comes to vocals on deYoung songs like Lady and Come Sail Away. He is also a master pianist (he shared a minute or so of Beethovan - incredible). Tommy Shaw and JY deliver their songs like they haven't aged a day in the last 30 years! Some say the guitar is 'over the top', but I say BRING IT ON...we will see them whenever we have the opportunity. Todd Sucherman is the 'rock drummer of the year' for a reason and always a treat to watch! Ricky Philips (and in this case Chuck Panozzo) round out the band on bass. Allround a top notch performance Thanks for a fantastic show guys!!

seen Styx at Red Robinson sept 12th, my husband & myself thought they were great, seen them last year at the same venue, & were even better than last year !! we think they are the best old band that is playing these days....seen a few last year, they were not as good, they could not have found a better voice than Gowen, he is such a huge talent & a GREAT showman........can't wait to see them again......hard to believe they are in their 50's/almost 60,except fot the drummer, he is the baby lol

  • kick ass show

by KellyA on 2009-09-16River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

My twin sister (Kris) and I flew to Vancouver together from Calgary for the weekend as our birthday gift to each other. Long story short, we had an excellent time! We were in the front row for the show, just how we like it. The band was excellent. We love seeing STYX live. They never disappoint. Every time they come anywhere near our area we'll move heaven and earth to get tickets. STYX really is one of the best bands I've ever seen live and I've attended many, many concert. I love every member of the band and their stage show ranks as a 10 in my books every time. My sister and I are younger than many of the fans that attend STYX concerts. But with 1 older sister and 2 older brothers we spent our entire lives exposed to all kinds of stuff. One thing our older sister and brothers made sure our house was full of was music. We grew up listening to STYX and every one of their songs brings back a flood of memories. STYX was EXCELLENT!!!!

I wasn't sure what to expect since they were appearing with Gowan instead of DD. I must say that I was blown away! I've seen many concerts over the last 30 years and many classic rock bands on the casino tours and Styx with Gowan was maybe the best! They're all great showman and all have excellent vocals. They recreated all there classics to perfection. Great songs, great sound!
