About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

  • Just like the good old days!!!!

by Amethysttanga on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

This was the most anticipated concert of the year for me. I love, love, love Styx. But to be honest I kind of expected to see 5 old wrinkled men trying to relive the past. However, such was not the case. These guys haven't changed a bit!!! They are true entertainers and I was left with wanting more. It was VERY cool that Chucky came out and played a few tunes. Just like the good old days. All I can say is WOW!!!! Thanks guys for an evening of pure music pleasure. You are AMAZING!!!!!!

  • better than I expected

by steviefan on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 4 out of 5

I am not a huge fan, but thought it would be fun. I was right!!! Great crowd, a few cheesy moments,(mostly with Gowan and his keyboard). But the sound was excellent, and they all looked and sounded really good. The harmonies were spot on and Tommy Shaw is as cute as a button. I wished they had played Babe, just to have a highschool flashback, but I understand why they didn't. The drum solo in the encore was great and there is no question that Todd Sucherman is one of rock's greatest drummers. You don't have to be a die hard fan to enjoy the show, just be able to appreciate a great rock show!

  • STYX WAS FABULOUS !!

by MELONBAUKER on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

Very interactive with the crowd . A nice to thing to see as most bands keep to themself . Drummer was amazing and Tommy Shaw and the boys show they still rock like they did in the 80's !! Fabuos venue for a fabulous show !!

  • Highly recommended!

The overall production was phenomenal. Great to be able to stand up at the stage and high-five all of the band mates. Excellent acoustic sound quality at the Red Robinson theatre.

  • well worth going to see..Todd Sucherman and Gowan

  • Styx was worth it but.....

by Abcd3 on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 4 out of 5

Great concert and they can still sing BUT they didnt play Babe or Mr Roboto. they came back for an encore where we expected the two missing songs. the missing songs overshadowd the event. we left talking about the missing songs instead of how great the rest of it was.

  • Styx...So much alive still 30 years later

by Condoor on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

We think that this concert was one of the best one we had the chance to see. The over all was like magic...The atmosphere was just great, the band is so tight and the songs remain as good as they were back then. The addition of Gowan was so pleasing, the man is on top of things, blending so nicely with Styx. We sure hope to see them again if they ever come back to BC

  • Styx was incredible!!!!

by Huntcoop on 2009-09-13River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best live concert I've seen. The intimate atmosphere at the River Rock Show Theatre made the show stunning. When Styx comes to your town they are a must see.

  • Styx was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by rizer on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

tight professional , you can tell they love to play

  • Styx was absolutely awesome!!

by Kaap on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

Unfortunately, there aren't many bands out there now like them; most are crap. These guys still have it AND MORE. Incredible tight sound and vocals; great showmanship and energy and talent (especially by Gowan). Brilliant guitar playing, drumming and organ work and theatrics-WAY COOL. Have seen hundreds of concerts, but this ranks as one of the best I've seen.

  • Styx was fantastic!

by CALLY on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

Styx stage presence, singing and overall presentation was absolutely fantastic. Loved the interaction of the band members with each other and with the audience. Music was outstanding! Highly recommend them to anyone who loves good rock music!

  • Gowen! Featuring: Styx!!

by RhondaandDeena on 2009-09-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

Wicked awesome man! We missed Styx the first time they were in Vancouver and one of us made a vacation outing of coming here for this show.

  • Styx-incredible talent

by yearsofconcerts on 2009-09-13River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I was not a fan back in their hey day but am now. They are very talented and leave nothing on the table, maybe the hardest working band I have seen. They engage the audience and truly look to be having as much fun as the fans...not to mention I think they actually like each other and it shows on stage. I highly recommend seeing them live....what a show! Non-stop high energy great music, thank you.

  • Styx was excellent

by mjjpaq on 2009-09-13River Cree Resort & Casino - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was excellent, small venue, music quality was very high and the length of the concert was above average.

  • styx, never missed a beat.

by trenk17 on 2009-09-12River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

Styx sounded fantastic, the energy from the band kept the crowd up from start to finish. Larry Gowan filled Dennis De Young's shoes perfectly with his singing and energy. Styx covered most of there hits with Gowan covering one of his. It was Tommy Shaw's birthday and a cake was brought out with lots of candles which he blew out after the crowd sang Happy Birthday. A show not to miss next time around.

  • Styx, Still Got It After All These Years

by TheRealVixen on 2009-09-12River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I attended the concert last night and were both blown away at how good the concert was. The venue was great and the band kicked butt. This was my first time seeing Styx and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed their music. I hope that they will return as I am more than willing to go and see them again.

  • Styx Rocked

by bergman on 2009-09-12River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I have waited 29 years to see them in concert - Styx rocked!

  • Styx: Trip down memory lane

by Seahawk on 2009-09-12River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

Very loud! I remember seeing Styx in 1981, and thinking at the time that it was one of the loudest concerts I have ever heard. Last night's Styx concert reminded me of that. The sound was loud, but not as crisp as one would expect with modern concert equipment. I also found the vocals muddied at times, and hard to make out over the instruments. Having said all of that, the Styx concert was like a trip down memory lane, with hit after hit being played. The band members are exceptional musicians, and seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves. Tommy Shaw and James Young, in particular, interacted well with the audience. Overall, I really enjoyed the concert.

  • styx were good Gowan was great

by Glasgaboy on 2009-09-12River Rock Show Theatre - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

I must be really out of touch. I went expecting to see Dennis Deyoung . Guess what? My wife who did not know much about STYX but came along for the ride was thrilled to see Gowan (one of her eighties favs). She had a blast. Oh, by the way I really enjoyed the show as well
