About

The Cat Empire is a genre-defying ensemble that formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1999. Blending ska, jazz, rocksteady, and hip-hop, the six-piece produces a wildly eclectic sound and live show that has toured worldwide, from major festivals like Glastonbury to making buzzworthy appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The Cat Empire has produced multiple No. 1 albums in Australia, including Two Shoes (2005) and Rising with the Sun (2016). After announcing their decision to disband in 2021, a refreshed lineup was announced in July 2023 led by original members Ollie McGill and Felix Riebl with the additions of Grace Barbé on bass, Daniel Farrugia on drums, Neda Rahmani on percussion and Lazaro Numa on trumpet. On August 25, The Cat Empire released their ninth studio album, Where The Angels Fall, with a supporting world tour scheduled for the fall.

  • Excellent !

    by Mico64 on 2025-07-08MTELUS - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

Reaaly good big Band, the trumpets and trombone along with keyboards make for great melodies and super dynamic octet! These guys and gals are the real deal, truly authentic, having a blast during the show.

  • An incredible night with Cat Empire... like always!

by CHRISTIAN on 2025-07-07MTELUS - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show, The Cat Empire never disappoint! They are so energetic and really get the crowd into it. (The only downside to this show was the wait between Opener and the Cat.)

  • Incredible energy, as expected.

by Matt on 2025-07-07MTELUS - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

Overall, an exceptional experience. Been a fan of the band for a while, and the energy they brought out, even with some recent changes to the structure of the band itself, was outstanding. The crowd vibed, the music was loud and exciting. Only minor drawbacks were some light issues with mixing closer to the stage. The bass was a bit overwhelming. The opening act was also definitely good, but didn't really match the vibe of the main performance. Regardless, 10/10. Tons of dancing and jumping around. Clearly these folks also mess with what Montreal brings to the audience!

  • An amazing evening

by Hercat on 2025-07-06MTELUS - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

Cat empire really demonstrated the difference between just playing their music and playing with the crowd. Everyone was hyped and loving it the whole time. The first time I saw them was well over a decade ago but they've still got it in spades. What an evening!

  • Excellent Best Concert Ever!

Best Cat Empire show i have seen. Dancing and party all night

  • SMILE like a Cheshire Cat

by Dance and Dash on 2025-07-03The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The band was incredible. Their energy, musicality and visceral fan connection made for a transformative experience. When I looked around the hall every single face was sporting an ear-to-ear grin. The rakes floor while making good sight lines is killer on the knees. If DMH would only create terraced Standing room only levels you could dance all night AND see.

  • Always a good time

by Niknak on 2025-07-03The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Just like the title says The Cat Empire are always such a fun show live. Played a lot of bangers the crowd could have been a bit more into it tho

  • Cat Empire so good live!

by ConcertLover on 2025-07-03The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I love it when I go to a concert and the band is way better live than on record. That's the case with the Cat Empire. All members are so talented and they look like they just love playing. Highly recommend the Cat Empire the next time they are in town.

  • Utterly epic! So much happiness.

by Jazz Man on 2025-06-23Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Such a fab experience, I’m a big fan of the commodore ballroom as a venue and both the support act and Cat Empire just grinned from ear to ear from start to finish and the whole room was filled with joy. An absolute treat.
