The songs and the visuals really brought back feelings of nostalgia. There was an unnecessary amount of grandstanding from the conductor, which was the only thing that was negative.

symphony of the goddesses performed a mind blowing concert/symphony. i went knowing that it would be pretty sweet but it just blew me away with the music from the games. the symphony takes you throughout all the time lines of the games and takes you through a journey of a life time. i give it 5 stars all the way the place was sold out and it should be for that amazing performance i witnessed.

A gamer's review of The Zelda Symphony Show

by Anonymous on 2015-03-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I have played every single Legend of Zelda game since the very 1st iteration on the NES, and thus, recognize all the music that was played, so I base my review on that. With that said, if you are even remotely a Zelda fan, I absolutely cannot recommend this show enough. It is simply put, spectacular. It's one thing to be a fan of the music of the Legend of Zelda, but it's a completely different experience to listen to it live, played right in front of you, by a complete orchestra. The most important thing to note is the visual aspect of this show. Right above the stage where the orchestra is playing, there is a large movie screen where game footage from the various Zelda games is playing as well. The video shown isn't random and actually matches the music that is being played. You can tell especially, from the transitions between songs, which is done, almost seamlessly. Also, if that's not enough, there are also little clips of Miyamoto, Aonuma, and Koji Kondo(composer) talking a little bit about the music in Zelda and their thoughts and impressions about the series in general. So in conclusion, if your like me and have played many Zelda games, your gonna have a great time. But even if your a new fan of the series, it's still a great experience, hearing the music live and even just being in a crowd, full of Zelda fans like us.

Beautiful background scenes playing while the symphony performed the great music from the series of games. My second time going, and I will go again.

    another great Zelda concert

by Rydia on 2015-03-24Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The best version of the Zelda show yet. They omitted a very annoying part of past shows, those constant speeches by Jeron Moore. They added something much better, a video message from Shigeru Miyamoto and Koji Kondo. Fans are much more interested in hearing from the great minds behind Zelda. The musical selection was very good.

    Great experience for Zelda Fans!

by Susiesunta on 2015-03-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Great show, however the music could have been amplified a bit louder but overall great! Was a bit tricky to see the drop screen from our seats but we really enjoyed the show :) I would go again being a Zelda fan however my friend is not and still enjoyed the symphony. The music was beautiful and well put together :)

What a great way to introduce the symphony to a younger audience! Great for all ages...fun to see the game action on the jumbotron behind the orchestra too. Great concept! Really enjoyed the music too!

    full of surprises and fun!!

by WingsofMana on 2015-03-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Loved the concert. It was a real treat hearing many of the music from my childhood games turned into music format. The sound was lovely and the video clips on the screen made me feel really nostalgic. They kept surprising us with extra songs and it got us very excited. Was sad to see it end; 10/10 would see again

It was a great experience, as a long time fan of the Legend of Zelda series I was very excited and it did not disappoint. The song choices were great and they included a good variety of songs from different games Side note: I was in cosplay and was still well treated by all the staff, no weird looks or anything

The music selection was excellent, the symphony did a fantastic job, and I loved every minute of it. I only wish they sold an album so I could listen again and again.

    Amazing.

by PutAwayTheStupidCellPhone on 2013-10-26Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

It was a wonderful event to see. Though this was quest two, we saw quest one last year which was I think a little better, but quest two still blew me away. It was a little annoying how many people were flashing their cameras and taking pictures (which is not allowed) and having to listen to people talk through the whole thing sucked, but that isn't the fault of the Symphony, it is the fault of the venue. If this was a review of the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium I would give it 1 star, but for the Symphony of the Goddesses 5 stars!!! If you are a fan, a true fan, you won't regret going.

Zelda Symphony is Wonderful and Amazing!

by stardreamer on 2013-10-22Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Hearing a live symphony play the music that makes part of playing Zelda such a memorable and wonderful experience was amazing. Most certainly worth it for long time fans AND even for those who've never gone on an adventure with Link. Nobody would be disappointed with this amazing show.

    Disappointing...

by Yukatakaytee on 2013-10-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

First of all, I'm a big Zelda fan. I often play the music at home to the point where my husband who never played any console game knows them. So for starters, I expected Zelda Williams to be there, but I just thought that maybe I misread when it said that she was hosting and must have been for the first year. The intro was great and moving, but the rest often felt flatter. The instruments where sometimes unequal in volume (I know cymbals are there for the wow effect, but "clashed" from time to time with the rest because they were too loud. Some other instruments as well like the choir (which I count as "an instrument"), while some were too subtle. Someone should have done a better sound check prior to the show. To be fair, I think it was the orchestra that may also be not so great. It was performed by the hometown (Calgary). The choir also sang some "Santa Maria" which made me wonder why they included someone so Christian (or similar religion that believes in the Virgin Mary) into the world of Zelda... You know, the one created by 3 Goddesses. The movies playing were not always well-synchronized and sometimes the technology failed when a bunch of light pixels invaded the picture. Not to mention, (to my disgrace) I haven't finished all the Zelda games and it kinda spoiled it for me as they often showed a quick walkthrough to the ending of the game, but maybe it just couldn't be helped. A lot of the songs I couldn't get into, to my biggest disappointment as I enjoy orchestral concerts and I just felt myself slowly getting tired to the point that I was almost glad it was over so I could go home and go to sleep. I had a good seat 3 row first balcony middle aisle. As for the merchandise, there was a boring poster (I'm sorry, but they managed to make the Master Sword look bland in a bland background) and the T-shirt was equally bland without anything on the back... I bought one during the interlude and almost got the guts to have it refunded since the 2nd part disappointed me. To my surprise, the encore played Majora's Mask (my favourite installment). I guess I was also disappointed they didn't really play my favourite songs. Althought I can't really imagine the Forest Temple from Ocarina of Time played by an orchestra. But The Calling of the Four Giants would have been better elongated. It's such a wonderful piece to play with an orchestra. I think the people that came were too easily satisfied. While no professional but an enthusiast and piano player, I think there was fairly room for improvement. I will have to check again and see if the Calgary orchestra was mainly at fault. If they were, I will be disappointed as well as I just moved here (oh-OH!). I hope not as I'm hoping to see more concerts in the future. The hosts (the ones who arranged the music, seemed ill at ease in front of the crowd like they were asked to do it last minute. But kudos for sucking it up! Anyhow, I've been listening to orchestral versions of Zelda music for a decade and I got so worked up about going only to be bitterly disappointed. I did not compare at all with Video Game Live. I would recommend the latter if they come your way, you will not be disappointed. Especially if you grew up playing console games like me. P.S. I really liked the people that came costumed! Cheers!
