Kept my 1 and 3 year old entertained! Really fun and will defiantly attend the rodeo at the Royal again.
Having never seen a rodeo, I wasn't sure what to expect but it was incredible. It was exciting, frightening, worth the money..... One of the riders broke his hand and kept on bull riding, a true "cowboy". It was a great time.
this is the first time my family attends the fair. We had a great day. Horse show is amazing, my heart beat so quick! Shows at Education Center are amusing. We laughed a lot! Lots of choices of food, great education material, many shopping options, I would recommend it for family event!
A bunch of horses running around the stadium, some were REALLY good, others did NOT make it because as they WENT OVER, they BROKE THE FENCE or OBSTACLE that they were supposed to JUMP over PERFECTLY!
We have been to the Calgary Stampede twice now and where looking forward to a Rodeo closer to home. We were not disappointed. Even though it is a much smaller venue, the variety of acts was great, it moved along at a good pace, the MC's were informative and entertaining. Our seats were good for most of the rides - we were at the opposite end of where the riders come out of the pens so we had a good view. We debated if seats closer to the pens would have been better to see the horses and bulls bucking but overall they were good seats.
Such a fun family event! Prices were reasonable for the entertainment value.
We are a horse loving family and take part in western shows but have never been to watch a rodeo. This event offered a sampling of western games - barrels and pole bending, but also bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, and even mini chuckwagon races! It was great to watch the experts in action! The bronc and bull riding were crazy exciting and so dangerous and thrilling to watch! The mini's were adorable. The Canadian Cowgirls did a few musical ride patterns and were a pleasure to watch. It was 2 hours of excitement for our whole family. This event was hosted by Amber Marshall of Heartland, which my daughter loved. It was pretty cool to see her live, on horseback! Our only disappointment was after the show, Amber handed out signed photos to the crowds, if you waited along the edge of the stadium for her - we didn't wait as she started on the opposite end and we would have stood there for at least an hour, and had a long drive home. I wish Amber's actual signing appearance at her booth was on the same day of the rodeo, instead of the day before. That is my only complaint. I guess that's the Royal's way of trying to get Amber fans to attend 2 days instead of one. We will go again next year for sure though.
It is a must see for anybody that goes to the Royal. A great day to spend with family.
I was disappointed in my experience at the Horse Show - I have attended shows in the past. The seats were great, good view of the area, but the patrons attending the show ruined the evening for me. People seated behind me talked through the entire show, and those seated beside me were up and down constantly blocking the view and inconveniencing those around them. Also, people were being let into the show with stamps from the afternoon show, again disrupting those who paid the price to attend the evening show. I think it will be a long time before I attend another horse show at the Royal.
I have been to the winter fair many times in the past however have never attended a 'performance/competition' in the ring. This was a fantastic event and I would highly recommend that anyone going to the fair should ensure to purchase tickets in advance to one of the competitions as well. It is the best value!!
I have been coming to the Royal for many years, and look forward to the experience year after year. It is a great day away and each year they have new activities to see and do. I like the change in the layout of the vendor area this year. The show jumping is alway the highlight of the day. Looking forward to next year
This was the best evening at the Royal that we've had. The Greenhawk show jumping was wonderful, but there was also the finals of the Indoor Eventing competition, which was equally exciting. Having these two competitions in the one evening left less time for some of the dreck that the Royal passes off as entertainment for the non-horse people in the audience.
I took my daughter to the Royal Winter Fair which for the first time. We had bought tickets to see the horse show/competition which was great! Very entertaining! Lots of vendors and food as well! A great experience and we will be back next year.
Couldn't get tickets for the grand finale so attended the Weston and weren't disappointed. We always love the jumping event most. Can do without the "artistic" acts with dogs and horses. Too bad seats cannot be made available to the public earlier than a few weeks before the event. Four rows of seats in front of us were reserved but not used. Many empty seats in the venue.
The event itself was enjoyable as usual. However, for some reason the Air Conditioning was BLASTING right on us the entire 3.5 hours. We were extremely cold and uncomfortable during the whole event. Had to purchase ridiculously priced hot tea & hot chocolate to try and keep our hands warm (two trips cost me about $8 for virtual hot water). I have attended the fair for 10yrs running with my daughter (now 15). While we enjoy the event itself, this experience will likely make us think hard about spending what ends up being over $200 to attend next year. It has become a tradition, but to be uncomfortable at that price - such a shame...
Another entertaining evening - Guy McLean and his horses were stunning, the Percheron six-horse hitches were beautiful and there were some heart-stopping events in the jumping championship. Hopefully, both horse and rider are okay.
Excellent show once again. Dressage and Guy McLean's Horses were amazing. Definitely worth the money. Look forward to next year.
The Royal Winter Fair and Horse Show is a highlighted event during my year. It is time to spend time with family and friends in a fair like environment. The Vendors showcase is excellent and the demonstrations and food court are always fun to wander around and take in the sights and sounds. We thoroughly enjoy the Horse jumping and other entertainment during the evening performance. We plan on going back next year.
It was a great afternoon and a great show. My daughter just loved it
We booked a little late and still got excellent seats. The whole night was great and so well done. Prices for confectionery seemed a bit high but I guess that comes with events like this.
