Vancouver Whitecaps FC History
The Vancouver Whitecaps may have only joined MLS in 2011 (alongside the Portland Timbers), but the team has a long history in the Pacific Northwest. The Whitecaps first launched in 1974 as a member of the now-defunct North American Soccer League and moved to the Canadian Soccer League in 1986 as the 86ers. The team would remain as the 86ers until 2000 when the Whitecaps name resurfaced as part of the A-League, which would later become the United Soccer League (USL).
Finally, on March 18, 2009, the Whitecaps were introduced as the newest franchise in MLS, where they would keep the Whitecaps name as part of the United States' top division. The club qualified for their first playoff run in 2012, becoming the first Canadian MLS franchise to do so. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps have claimed the Voyageurs Cup at the annual interleague Canadian Championship in 2015, 2022, and 2013 and count 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo among their alumni.

Great facility - great crowd - team - well outrun - outpassed -outscored but thanks to Seattle - are in the playoffs - their future is now in the Whitecaps hands from here on in
Whitecaps went to Playoff!!!!!! This is the first time ever in Canada team!!! Their play was so amazing! Especially Y.P.Lee, player of the year in White caps was palying well!! I would like to go and watch the game again!
BC Place is a world class venue to hold any sporting event, and i am glad the Whitecaps call it home. We may have lost the game, but sitting in the North West end of the stadium where the Portland Timbers fans were cheering their team on in the most organized fashion. The chants were witty and the fans of both sides were in high spirits. Great time!
Didnt realise fan section stood up entire game! Cheers and songs were fun but made it hard for kids to see the field. We were close enough to field they got player autographs after the game. Good time even with limited visibilty.
Fun stuff on the field ahead of the game. The roof was open which was great!
good game really enjoy it .. white caps played well........
I come from Korea and I lived in Vancouver with my two kids. We wanted to see a Whitecaps game and we did. Our favorite soccer player is Y.P.Lee. He was good. It was our first time but really really great!!!
Best value for your money! Great family entertainment...
A great atmosphere to watch a game, family friendly, no bad seats.
Whitecaps matches are excellent! I bought season tickets this past year for the Whitecaps; it was worth every penny. Match prices are at an excellent value for what you receive. The quality on the pitch keeps improving year by year, and it's obvious that the Whitecaps will be a powerhouse in the MLS for years to come. I have never been big into watching soccer games, but only one Whitecaps game quickly converted me to a die-hard fan. You have to see soccer live IN PERSON to appreciate it! I'm definitely renewing my season tickets for 2013.
I had a very good time at the match even though we did lose 2-0 to Dallas, I think the fans here get more value for their money compared to England and the chanting was quite funny.
Very poor soccer, poor and uninterested crowd. The 400-500 Southsiders did their best and they did it good, but it's not enough. I watched 45 minutes, and i'll never go back again.
Grea venue. Great crowd. The soccer wasn't very good this time, but the experience was still great.
Took my 9 year old granddaughter for her BD present. Even though the Caps lost we totally enjoyed the game. It was great that 3 of our women's soccer team members were there, medals & all. The night was beautiful, the roof was open and we both had a great time. we have been to a few games already this year and look forward to a few more.
The Whitecaps are on Fire this year, they are doing very well. They seem to win every time I go to a game. They deserve way more exposure than TFC.
This event was great. I loved how into it everyone was. Definitely the best sporting event to go to in Vancouver when it comes to being involved in the crowd.
It was a great game. Love to see the Caps winning!
Best game of the season for the Whitecaps..loved that they scored first. Cavillo was brilliant.
I took my daughter to her first Caps game on Aug. 11 against RSL. The game was fantastic and BC place was an excellent venue. It felt very small and close to the field, not what we were expecting.
