Vancouver Whitecaps FC History
The Vancouver Whitecaps may have only joined MLS in 2011 (alongside the Portland Timbers), but the team has a long history in the Pacific Northwest. The Whitecaps first launched in 1974 as a member of the now-defunct North American Soccer League and moved to the Canadian Soccer League in 1986 as the 86ers. The team would remain as the 86ers until 2000 when the Whitecaps name resurfaced as part of the A-League, which would later become the United Soccer League (USL).
Finally, on March 18, 2009, the Whitecaps were introduced as the newest franchise in MLS, where they would keep the Whitecaps name as part of the United States' top division. The club qualified for their first playoff run in 2012, becoming the first Canadian MLS franchise to do so. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps have claimed the Voyageurs Cup at the annual interleague Canadian Championship in 2015, 2022, and 2013 and count 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo among their alumni.

I feel a huge opportunity was missed by the merchandising team. This was their chance to get new season ticket holders signed up or single game buyers the chance to see the fun at a regular game. No introduction of the teams, new players that most of us have never seen before, no national anthem, great start to every game, no announcer to shout out goal scorer name. These are fun parts of every game. Personally I would have loved a round of Stand by Me at end. Great to hear Vani and his hopes for season. However none of the negatives will stop us being in our regular seats this season. Go Caps Go.
The event was great but they only had one gate open which led to ridiculously long lines up & I had friends that saw them & decided not to come in.
I appreciated the free tickets offered to watch the preseason game. Everything was fine but the line up to get in was really long so I’ll probably skip any preseason stuff in the future.
love waiting in a gigantic line that wraps around the building then having to go through security screening and metal detectors like i'm boarding air force one just to watch crap soccer in a soulless concrete dungeon. very great experience, would love to come back for more.
Alot of people who love cheering and haivng a great time was amazing to see such great team playing against each other blues vs whites. Im glad to have been apart of it.
Segregation never brought anyone anything except trouble.
Good atmosphere, nice game, and wonderful stadium. Really enjoy it
I enjoyed the game. However I leave earlier, I feel uncomfortable quick a few people not wearing mask. I believe mask is mandatory
Lots of families and young children which is essential to grow the sport. A fun preseason event.
The game was exciting and we throughly enjoyed it. The only negative were the people around me not wearing masks Some were and I appreciate them. But unless your eating or drinking you should be wearing your mask!!
The game itself was a good outcome for the fans & team. But where do I begin with customer services? It was horrible. 1) We arrived early, the lineup to get in was so long I actually thought about going somewhere else & then returning at halftime. 2) Food & beverage lines. Again long lines, we waited for food (mini-donuts) at halftime & weren't even close to being served by the time the game started again.
Great atmosphere and skilled play on the field!. Love the coach's enthusiasm!! Team is playing a great possession game! Great save at the end!!
Loved being at a huge event in whitecaps history. The experience was fair compared to pre-Covid times.
Concessions need work still. Long lines for barely passable food in 80's. Guy in front of me got triple charged for his popcorn, even after expressing concern and being told he wasnt triple charged, only to check his balance to see that he was. Staff werent checking all ids with Vaccine cards, stuck outside in down pour to get in for almost an hour. The in game experience was great, good call on opening the extra seats up. Everyone friendly and courteous, but a big sense of confusion which is to be expected at the largest crowd in a couple years.
Sitting in the supporter section was a blast! Cheering, chanting, and dancing. Wasn’t expecting such fun
Fanatic atmosphere. Whitecaps Fans were great and I had a great time. Let’s go whitecaps
Don’t need a scoreboard to prompt cheering, the fan are real and the atmosphere is great.
Enjoyed the game but shelling out $50 for average seats to watch an average team in pretty much anempty stadium is poor, even more so as there are no kids tickets ... Whitecaps ... if you want to have a future fan base encourage them... better to have a couple of thousand kids in there paying $10 with their parents, buying merch and food/ drinks etc than empty seats
Enjoyed watching the workout before the game. Great athletes. Game was exciting. Bleh er is such a great goalie. Brian White for the last home games has scored 2 goals at this game and 3 goals in the game before. All whitecap players are all so good. The coach is so animated and praises the players.
