Vancouver Whitecaps FC History

The Vancouver Whitecaps may have only joined MLS in 2011 (alongside the Portland Timbers), but the team has a long history in the Pacific Northwest. The Whitecaps first launched in 1974  as a member of the now-defunct North American Soccer League and moved to the Canadian Soccer League in 1986 as the 86ers. The team would remain as the 86ers until 2000 when the Whitecaps name resurfaced as part of the A-League, which would later become the United Soccer League (USL).

Finally, on March 18, 2009, the Whitecaps were introduced as the newest franchise in MLS, where they would keep the Whitecaps name as part of the United States' top division. The club qualified for their first playoff run in 2012, becoming the first Canadian MLS franchise to do so. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps have claimed the Voyageurs Cup at the annual interleague Canadian Championship in 2015, 2022, and 2013 and count 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo among their alumni.

Game was good, price of ticket over the top

by Klassensw on 2021-10-21BC Place - Vancouver

We bought 2 tickets for $72 plus $10 each only to discover other sites had the same tickets for 2/3’s less! Have not yet received an answer to our query about exorbitant cost of tickets. Disappointed in ticketmaster.

    Awesome

by Truketnur on 2021-10-21BC Place - Vancouver

Great to see the cops making a run for the playoffs! They have to sign Sartini. He's done an obvious great job motivating the players. Go caps!

    Whitecaps! Not nightcaps...

by Gronny on 2021-10-20BC Place - Vancouver

The players are exciting, the fans are loud and engaged. The seats were at the end of the field near a corner. It was; epic.

    BC place is awful

by Soccerguy on 2021-10-05BC Place - Vancouver

The whitecaps put a good product on the feild and the game was entertaining. BC place is awful. They ran out of popcorn the washrooms are filthy and the prices of snacks and drinks are way to high.

    Outstanding.

by Stubby on 2021-10-05BC Place - Vancouver

Well played. Love the constant pressure on other team and the controlled short passing game.

    Ticket pricing

by Poonam Arora on 2021-10-04BC Place - Vancouver

Ticket pricing could be better so families with kids can afford it more.

    Great, but not so

by Popcorn on 2021-09-13BC Place - Vancouver

I enjoy watching the game, but not so when strangers are all sitting together shoulder by shoulder, maybe consider blocking the seat at least one space between each fan.

    Terrible bag check-in.

by Mehh on 2021-09-10BC Place - Vancouver

Worst most unorganized, not well advertised mandatory bag check in. No exceptions even a small pouch needs to be checked in. Awful mess to get stuff back at the end of game. Terrible idea.

    Veggie Dog

by Johno on 2021-09-07BC Place - Vancouver

The game and atmosphere was great as I was expecting . And the W sealed it. BUT after standing in line for a few minutes ..I was told the veggie dogs are not available. So I stood in line again at the Asian food concession.Where I had a delicious veggie bowl. Even though it may seem trivial at the moment,it takes away from the positive experience of the game and atmosphere

    Whitecaps soccer

by AG on 2021-09-01BC Place - Vancouver

Great game. A lot of great food and drink options. I don’t understand the social distancing: strangers were sitting side by side filling a row with an empty row between. Would it not make more sense to stagger groups in a row with seats between strangers but fill all rows?

    Masks

by David on 2021-09-01BC Place - Vancouver

I did not attend the Whitecaps match because of the last-minute mask mandate. I have no interest in wearing a mask to a stadium event. I complained to the Whitecaps and requested a refund but I did not even receive an acknowledgement. Very disappointing for someone who has purchased mini-season tickets in the past for me personally and for my company.

    Best 'first time' experience!

by Reno on 2021-08-24BC Place - Vancouver

This is my first time watching the game at a stadium outside my country. Feel so grateful to have an opportunity to watch an important game for Whitecaps. So, now I will be Caps Fan forever!

    It’s been a while

by Warriors on 2021-08-24BC Place - Vancouver

Got some tickets day before. Took my 16 year old son, we used to have seasons tickets, but with not being able to make every game decided to just grab them when we can… Like the every other row seating, although we got there 19 min late to the 21st game and so people were sitting in our seats, so we just sat in the grey row where would have been the non seating. Was a great comeback for whitecaps so marvellous event and felt good to be back!

    Great experience

    by Islander77 on 2021-08-24BC Place - Vancouver

Straightforward process through security/safety process. Felt safe with rows left empty inbetween. Fun experience in supports section. And a big win with a 90th minute winner!

    Premium club seats

    by Shapka24 on 2021-08-24BC Place - Vancouver

I bought 2 premium club seats expecting a little bit more considering they were almost twice the price of a normal ticket. Food and drink delivery service to your seat was disabled and the seats weren’t as good as it stated they would be! Felt kinda jipped but the game was awesome! Our tickets didn’t have a gate to enter on them so we walked around awhile trying to figure out where we were suppose to enter the stadium.

    underwhelming

by bob on 2020-03-03BC Place - Vancouver

Quality of play of WC was awful. Wait to see if their new midfield players make a difference before buying tickets. Quality of food in Food Court was very underwhelming. Very beige. Not sure why Food Court is premium ticket when there is way better food up on normal concourse.
