Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (now the Arizona Coyotes). In the 12 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made six playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

    Jets vs NYI

by Ozzy on 2024-01-19Canada Life Centre - Winnipeg

Game was exciting. Seats were acceptable & price was reasonable. Only concern is the price charged at the Vendors. Would probably sell more food if the prices were so steep.

    Real Fans' NHL experience

by Richard Murphy on 2024-01-02Canada Life Centre - Winnipeg

My first Jet home game at Canada Life Centre, during a visit from out of town. Sold out game. I was shocked when I went to get a drink from the 300 level concourse at the 5 minute mark of the third period. I was the only person in the concourse. No exaggeration. Great to be at an NHL game with only real fans in attendance.

    Senior's Point of View

by Brian on 2024-01-02Canada Life Centre - Winnipeg

This was the most amazing memorable experience ever. Every minute was fun and as a bonus we won the game. As a senior in the late 70's we have the time and are able to afford many more games each year. But also as a senior we were not raised with computers and cellphones in our lives, so navigating your system to buy tickets is very difficult and stressful. An easier way to buy them would make this experience a 10+ and we would want to attend more often.

Great but sound system wasn’t great.

by Lauren on 2023-12-31Canada Life Centre - Winnipeg

The skills comp wasn’t as well organized this year and it was difficult to understand the announcers. Because I wasn’t able to understand, I was much less engaged.

Great evening, poor set up for our section

by Angela on 2023-12-31Canada Life Centre - Winnipeg

We sat in section 116 with seats that shared the aisle with 117. The plexiglass was removed along the sides of the arena up to the angle cut piece that attaches to the safety net for the end zone. That was a problem for the 116/117 section. The way it was set up now, at the bottom of the stairs was the angle cut plexiglass, so everyone had to move into the personal space of the people of the front row of section 117, and stand right in front of the front row people. Which was extremely uncomfortable for the front row people. They needed to remove one more piece of plexiglass so that the kids could line up straight up and down the stairs. Detailed info about the plexiglass openings on the event info and booking pages would be great. That definitely is a big factor in how we choose seats, but we weren’t 100% right this time. All in all it was a fantastic evening, but direct access to the ice definitely makes it better.

    Jets skills comp

by DaveyB on 2023-12-31Canada Life Centre - Winnipeg

The jets skills competition we tough to really enjoy since they kept half the lights off and the arena was dark. The only time they used the lights was for the shootout, which ended up being the least enjoyable part of the skills likely because the players seemed disinterested on scoring on the 2 goalies
