    Swan Lake Ballet

by Anonymous on 2010-11-17Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Cristina and Alexey are very good soloists and with their support the show has been a very pleasentful experience. Ruhbart's role was well done - expressive interpretation - it brought the necessary tension in the story development. The same could be said about the court clown role - well represented - well placed comic relief and the dancer was very good as well. The pas-de-deux was well synchronized and well done and contributed in the best way to a good show. Good ballet shows are rare in Edmonton - so the experince has been much appreciated.

The male dancers stole the show with their incredible jumps. Costumes were beautiful. No programs at this show was disappointing as was the poor selection of souvenirs.

    Great costumes

by Greatballet on 2010-11-06Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

The venue in Surrey was really not the greatest. Small with mediocre accoustics, and not the style of theatre that's really conducive to this type of thing. The performance itself was outstanding. Amazing costumes. I would have really appreaciated a live orchestra, but I guess that's asking a lot for a touring show of this type.

    Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker

by Anonymous on 2010-11-06Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

I always enjoy a ballet. I thought this would be top notch but it wasn't. I wondered if the floor was slippery as the plants after the pirouettes etc. were wobbly at times. The dancers were good and except for a couple were not wonderful. At one time it was embarrassing as the dancers were eliciting applause which they did not seem to realize had ended.

    disappointing

by balletfan2010 on 2010-11-06Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

The billing of this event was "Moscow Ballet" not "Moscow Ballet plus local children". No live orchestra, rarely in sych, the children were confused. Set was boring with a couple of different backdrops. Bell Center For Performing Arts should really be known as Sullivan Secondary School Auditorium. Poor poor performance and overall evening when having to make an hour drive to Surrey. Obviously the "great" performances are held downtown Vancouver. Such a let down.

    Moscow Ballet Great Rusian Disaster

by goldensandra on 2010-11-06Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

The only reason I bought tickets for this ballet was because it was the Moscow Russian company. It was awful. The dancers were terrible totally not in time with each other....some were turning while others had finished, losing their balance and footing, terrible stage presentation. I will never go again. It was a good high school production at best.

    Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker

by Taradiddle on 2010-11-06Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

I can't even be bothered to spend more time dwelling on the badness that was this production, so I'll be brief. I've seen the Nutcracker performed a number of times, by both junior companies and professional theatre groups, and have always come away feeling cheerful - there's something about the Nutcracker that just makes me happy. However, this was not the case with the Moscow Ballet's rendition. I was shocked at the lack of skill of the dancers; their timing was extremely off and on many occasions the audience held their breath as someone nearly fell over from a poorly executed jump or simply tripped over their own feet, or a stage prop. Furthermore, there was no acting at all in the production. I know, it's a ballet not a play, but it takes more than just executing the specific steps to capture an audience (and since they didn't even manage to do that, perhaps a bit of acting would have helped....). Top it all off with messy costuming and a large number of extra distractions constantly on stage (why oh why were there dancing animals in the background and foreground?) and you have a bomb of a show.

    Cluttered

by Buznog on 2009-12-27Copley Symphony Hall - San Diego

This was a sweet performance, but not stellar. Essentially it was a combination of a young and very energetic company, with a large group of local children. This led to an over-crowded stage, and a distinct lack of coordination. On the other hand, if my granddaughter were in the mini-corps, I'd have been ecstatic.

    Moscow Ballet

by canadianbrit on 2009-12-13Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Overall enjoyable - a well executed and technically precise performance. I thought the first half performance lacked spark - the second half seemed much more spontaneous and energetic. I didn't like that we could see the performers in the wings moving about - it was distracting from the dancers performimg. I also don't understand why the performance was 20 minutes late in starting - with no apology . Overall however we enjoyed it and the chance to see Russian dancers.

I enjoyed the Nutcracker. It had some moments that were not as strong with the caliber of dance was poor to outstanding. The outstanding moments outweighed the poor though and I thoroughly enjoyed the show .

Unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

by Anonymous on 2009-12-01Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

When I saw the name "Moscow Ballet" I thought this would be a ballet that I'd remember for incredible quality. This event was, at best, a C-grade performance. I thought Moscow Ballet would be one of the best in the world, this event was more something you'd see from any old average civic group. I was disappointed that there was no live orchestra, especially for the price we paid for the tickets. In fact, at one point the CD skipped DURING THE PERFORMANCE. Totally unacceptable. Dancers were rarely in synch and the set was boring and uninspired.

    Moscow Ballet Company...stunning!

by 3balletgirls on 2009-11-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

What a pleasure to watch the stunning and talented dancers of the Moscow Ballet Company. The performance was brilliant...both professional dance-wise as well as pure entertainment value. The 'ugly' stepsisters and 'mean' stepmother were absolutely hysterical. A most enjoyable evening!

    Cinderella not quite....

by sassysarah on 2009-11-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The evening started out with thirty minutes of a lady singing some ridiculous songs. The purpose of having her perform was beyond me. The ballet itself was average. The CD they used for their music skipped so at one point they were just dancing to nothing. Someone must have stopped and cleaned it finally. The main ballet dancers were good and the ugly stepsisters were quite entertaining. Some of the background dancers could have used a little more enthusiasm. Overall, I was not impressed. I certainly expected more.

    Cinderella Ballet was fabulous!

by haghome on 2009-11-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

What a great evening. Beautiful music, costumes and amazing dancing. The humour that was injected into the show did not go unnoticed by all ages. We saw this same troupe in our home town of Fort McMurray, performing The Nutcracker. and are looking forward to seeing them again in the spring when they will again perform Cinderella. Wouldn't miss it!

Art like the halo of angel

by Anonymous on 2009-11-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

It is not just a simple ballet. It is an expression of art and beauty. The beauty has been expressed thoroughly - through dancing, music, dress... Dancers not just simply perform, they have fused in and told us the story of cinderella.

    Moscow Ballet Cinderella Edmonton

by Dieselman on 2009-11-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The price was very high but I thought it would be worth it to give my granddaughters some "cultural exposure" The music was an issue - it quit a couple of times during the performance. The dancers were good enough to continue to dance without it. The music didn't seem to fit the story. It didn't help set the tone or the mood of the audience such as building to a crescendo when important points are approached. I found out that the ballet was a fund raiser for a Calgary charity. I didn't see or notice that in any of the advertising nor when I made the booking. If I had know that i would not have bought the tickets.

Moscow ballet - Cinderella - delightful

by balletfan on 2009-11-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The whole evening was delightful, starting with the performance by Jenn Beaupre. I particularly enjoyed the involvement of local young dancers. What an experience for them.

    Moscow Ballet's: Cinderella...very disappointing

by Betsy1 on 2009-11-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

My daughter(23)and I went to this event last night. It was very disappointing. To be honest we thought about leaving halfway through but at 125.00 a ticket we decided to stay. This seemed liked more of an amateur show than professional. The costumes were bright and colorful which was nice but the dancers timing was terrible. I felt sorry for the parents that took their little ones to it. Most fell a sleep...including some adults
