About

Legendary New York-bred singer-songwriter Billy Joel has toured only sporadically in recent years, but fans have plenty of opportunities to score tickets to see him in concert going forward -- if they're willing to head out to New York's Madison Square Garden. Joel signed an open-ended deal with MSG that will have him playing a concert at the venue once per month for as long as there's demand. And demand has never been a problem for Joel at he historic New York venue; he played his first show there in 1978, and had logged 46 concerts at the arena by 2013.
New York isn't alone in its love for the singer. Joel has long been established as one of the top-grossing touring artists in the U.S., and has sold more than 150 million records over the course his four-decade career. After recording a long string of hits including "Piano Man," "New York State of Mind," "Just the Way You Are," "You May Be Right," "Pressure," "Uptown Girl," "We Didn't Start the Fire," and  "The River of Dreams," Joel decided that he was done writing pop and rock songs. It's a decision he's stuck with; it's been more than 20 years since he's recorded a new pop or rock album. He's composed new classical material instead, while continuing to play songs from his catalog in concert.

The whole experience was great, one of the best concerts I have been to....

  • Billy is "the" piano man!!!

by Skipabeat on 2014-01-03Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Joel on New Years Eve in Brooklyn New York. Pinch me!!! Ben folds opened with an hour and Billy played for 2.5 hours. The most generous concert I've been to. So many of the greats of Billy's generation have lost their chops and are hardly worth seeing. Billy sounds just as good today as he did when he recorded The Stranger.

  • Incredible 3+ hours

by nlsunflower on 2010-02-22EnergySolutions Arena - Salt Lake CityRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was worth the wait, having been rescheduled from November. Elton and Billy came out together for some songs and both played seperately for about an hour and then they came out again for more songs together, ending the concert with Piano Man They sang the best of their songs and had great back up bands. Sound in Energy Solutions was great. The piano playing was superb. Elton was more of a performer during the concert, Billy entertained with some commentary. If you love their music do not miss this event.

  • Best Concert Ever!

by Paddy on 2009-07-16The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn HillsRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best concert ever! I have seen Billy Joel previously, so Elton John was the last on my "bucket list." That they were together, when I never thought they would be again was amazing! I went with my two beautiful daughters and my husband. Before the show, my daughters were approached by roadies and given two tickets to the front row! They were literally front and centre at the stage after the first few songs. We went to the concert for my birthday. Imagine my surprise when during the last set, Sir Elton asked if it was anyone's birthday. A few screams and cries and then he said, "Well we do know it's L...... M..........'s" 50th birthday!" And they broke into the Beatles birthday song! They were singing to me!!!!! My daughters had managed to pass Elton John a note and he actually did it!!!! It was amazing! On my real birthday a few days later, my daughter got out the laptop and played the birthday song from Youtube, as they felt they could no longer sing me happy birthday after Elton John and Billy Joel had done it!

  • BillyJoel and Elton John were Incredible

by KCash on 2009-07-15The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn HillsRating: 5 out of 5

I have always been a huge Elton John fan and grew up listening to both he and Billy Joel. Although I really enjoyed the music of Billy Joel, I hadn't thought much about seeing him in concert - that was a mistake on my part. Both put on an amazing performance and they sounded absolutely great together. I truly thought the concert would never end and was exhausted for them. Loved every single minute of it and was so impressed with their extreme talent. This was definately a concert I will never forget.

  • Elton John and Billy Joel were amazing!

by collsie on 2009-07-14The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn HillsRating: 5 out of 5

I thought this concert was excellent. I was initially disappointed that I had to get seats behind the stage but they turned out to be great. Both Elton and Billy made great efforts to specifically engage those sitting behind the stage and we could see them very clearly. They played nonstop for 3 hours without taking any breaks. It was a great evening.

I was so excited to go the Billy Joel / Elton John concert and they sure didn't disappoint! I didn't want the concert to end. I thought they were amazing. I was in awe for 3 1/2 hours. The only disappointing thing was that they didn't do a encore! But at that point I guess they played everything so I understand why they didn't come back out. I would highly recommend it to any fan! Money's worth and more.

  • Old guys rock!!

by kdfalcon on 2009-07-13The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn HillsRating: 5 out of 5

Elton and Billy came out together and played each others songs for 45 minutes and then Elton took the stage for about an hour. When he was done playing all his classics, Billy Joel came out and entertained the audience for another hour or so and did not dissappoint. They concluded with another 45 minutes or so together. I can not believe they played sooo long. It was a truly great performance from 2 entertainers who love to entertain. Well worth the money spent.

I'll try and gather the words to discribe the expereince. The venue was a perfect setting for what was a trip down my musical memory lane. Everyone was united watching, singing along to the sounds created by these two legends of our recent times. They played for just under 4 hours, seperate selections, sharing each others greatest hits, it was an incredible show! Can't wait to see them again.

  • billy and elton were unbelievable!!!!!!!

  • Amazing

by Sanka on 2009-07-12The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn HillsRating: 5 out of 5

Even though we got to the concert a bit late, it was wonderful. Both Elton John and Billy Joel put on great sets and it just got better when they performed together. Although we sat towards the back of the stage, we still had a great view and we apprecited that both artists performed to all sides of the stage. Would definitely go see them again!

  • Awesome show but don't plan to eAt there

by Mcous on 2009-07-12The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn HillsRating: 3 out of 5

This concert was great!! The palace was easy to find and the seating was great! They played for over 3 hours straight. Both are very entertaining. This is the second time I have seen Elton and Billy together. I hope I get a chance to go see them play together again.
