About

Legendary New York-bred singer-songwriter Billy Joel has toured only sporadically in recent years, but fans have plenty of opportunities to score tickets to see him in concert going forward -- if they're willing to head out to New York's Madison Square Garden. Joel signed an open-ended deal with MSG that will have him playing a concert at the venue once per month for as long as there's demand. And demand has never been a problem for Joel at he historic New York venue; he played his first show there in 1978, and had logged 46 concerts at the arena by 2013.
New York isn't alone in its love for the singer. Joel has long been established as one of the top-grossing touring artists in the U.S., and has sold more than 150 million records over the course his four-decade career. After recording a long string of hits including "Piano Man," "New York State of Mind," "Just the Way You Are," "You May Be Right," "Pressure," "Uptown Girl," "We Didn't Start the Fire," and  "The River of Dreams," Joel decided that he was done writing pop and rock songs. It's a decision he's stuck with; it's been more than 20 years since he's recorded a new pop or rock album. He's composed new classical material instead, while continuing to play songs from his catalog in concert.

  • Billy Joel can still belt it out!!!

by KRSix on 2017-07-11Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I was not expecting Billy Joel to be be able to sing with such great vocals but he did for 2 1/2 hours straight. Just amazing plus he has surrounded himself with some excellent musicians. A night to remember!!

  • Does not disappoint

Billy came out and played for 2solid hours. Really enjoys what he does and does it well. Had us on our feet .Knows his audience, and plays what you want to hear.

  • An unbelievable not to be missed show!

by BGinzy on 2017-07-10Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It wasn't on my bucket list but I'm adding it and crossing it off because it belonged on it. Billy is amazing and still going strong at 68. An incredible show. He played for 2 hours and 20 minutes straight. And it was great to see it in nyc at Madison square gardens. Exceptional performance.

  • Awesome concert! Glad we went!

by Jojodoc on 2017-05-17Dodger Stadium - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

We decided to fly down from Canada for the weekend as we had never been to a Billy Joel concert. It was well worth the trip, even though the LA freeways were a nightmare as usual. It's amazing that a guy who has not produced anything new for over 25 years can still fill a stadium and will give you your money's worth.

  • Billy is hobbling around but he still sounds great

by Woozie on 2017-03-06Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

He played all the hits (except Just the Way You Are - he still refuses to play it, and that makes me sad). His voice is great, he still plays the piano brilliantly and he has surrounded himself with some incredibly good musicians. With some guests, two of the Young Rascals and John Mellencamp, this was just a lot of fun. He could banter a little more with the audience, that would be nice.

  • Billy Joel is the BEST

by JoeBenny on 2016-08-16Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic performance! 2.5 hours of Billy Joel on the piano with his band. The encore was amazing. Highly highly HIGHLY recommend this concert for anyone.

  • Amazing show !

Billy Joel was in good form and gave an amazing show, very generous and funny on the microphone. A solid 2 and a half hour show.

  • Billy Joel is great performer

by Celesticacat on 2016-08-12Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show. He had numerous hits from 70s and 80s and it feels like I am at a pub and not 20,000 seat arena. Very likeable personality. Will probably go again! Do not expect tons of effects. Just good music and light show

  • Fantastic night!

by canadianchia on 2016-07-23Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Joel definitely knows how to put on a good show! He played all his big hits, as well as a bunch of not-as-famous songs, let the audience choose a few of the songs, and did about 5 or 6 songs in his encore. Awesome night, for sure!

  • Sing Us A Song Tonight

by YoungerKISSFan on 2016-05-24Safeco Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Joel was amazing!! He played all his top hits as well as snippets from other songs/artists. He had a great sense of humour throughout the night and his band did a fantastic job. Gavin DeGraw was the opener and joined Billy on stage for a song and he sounded great, doing all his top hits as well. I would definitely recommend seeing Billy Joel if you have the chance!!

  • The New - Old Billy Joel

by JeffG on 2016-05-23Safeco Field - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

As BIlly said, "Billy's busy messing with his hair but I'm his dad and I know all his songs. The gamble when you go to see performers you've loved and admired is that, as we all do, they change with age and will not be the same as you remembered them. Some of that trepidation was present in the couple sitting next to me. Having teethed on "The Stranger" he worried that his memories of Billy would be dashed if he wasn't "as remembered". Billy's first number dashed those concerns. What resulted was a tremendous evening for thousands of fans that filled as much of Safeco Field as was available. From the first song to his 6 song encore, which answered the questions of whether he'd play Uptown Girl and other favourites, the stadium was his and happily so. His voice, while husky, was as good as ever and the band is the same as the one that played with him at the record breaking final Shea Stadium concert. A word about Safeco field and the sound system; it was unbelievable. There was no echo and clarity for all of us sitting in the stands behind home plate. Quite a feat considering how far the sound has to come. It was a great night. One that we will cherish for years to come.

  • Bully Joel rocked under a full moon

    by Tootall1960 on 2016-05-23Safeco Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Billy Joel for the first time under a full moon at Safeco Field and he put on a terrific show As he put it "I don't have anything new so we are going to play my old "Stuff"! He has so many good songs but he played lots the encore was five songs. Great show well worth the 12 hour drive to get there from Calgary!

  • Still the Piano Man

by SawDog on 2016-03-18Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing Billy Joel live and he and the band were amazing. What a great professional show. Got to hear the big hits and some interesting obscure ones. MSG is a great venue.

  • First time venue, First time Billy Joel Live...

by blackthunder on 2015-11-22Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Madison Square Gardens is a wonderful venue to take in the concert. The organization of seating and access through this iconic place made it easier to enjoy. The performance by Billy Joel was outstanding, sound was great, lots of nice technical arrangements and the sound was great. Lot's of "fielder's choice" of music and it was amazing to have a 16,000 strong group of background singers. I'd go again if I could...hope he does do this for the rest of his natural life, haha.

  • What a concert

by Gerry6632 on 2015-10-25Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was high energy from start to finish. 2 + hours of hits. John Mayer and Steve Miller showed up to help out on a couple of songs. Billy Joel is starting to show his age at 67, but he did an amazing job. HE played to the crowd form start to finish.

  • A bucket list item Seeing incomparable Piano Man!

by SammyJo58 on 2015-09-14Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I had the good fortune to see Billy Joel early in his career (Allentown was on the charts) and on his duelling pianos tour with Elton John. Both concerts were fabulous, but to see Billy now in his amazing record breaking run at Madison Square Gardens is not just a concert - it is a "bucket list" experience of a lifetime. Billy is in as fine a voice as ever and treated his fans to songs from every decade of his career. What other entertainer performs for two hours and then give his fans a SIX SONG encore?? Billy held the audience captivated and his fans left with a wonderful memory of an unforgettable evening. Bravo Mr. Joel! If you can only afford one concert and you are a fan, make sure you catch the Piano Man at the Gardens in New York City.

  • Mixed Bag of Goodness

by TrackManiac on 2015-07-07Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Billy's best song is The Downeaster 'Alexa' which he didn't play at all. The best song he did play was We Didn't Start the Fire which he played just 'ok'. The song he played the best was The Longest Time.

  • Billy Joel Rocked The Garden

by Pach19 on 2015-03-12Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was purely amazing. At the age of 66 he can still fully pack the venue and put on an unforgettable performance. This was a something that will be remembered for the rest of my life.

Show was fantastic, would have been nice to know that it was Rufus Wainright, now one introduced him. I recognized his voice right away, but most did not. Brian Johnson was a great surprise. Billy Joel was fantastic from what I could hear, could not see him at all neither in person nor on any screens. Too bad, when you pay to see someone it's nice to actually see them. We couldn't see the stage nor could we see the images on the screen. The screens on the stage were also blocked. For $500.00 this was really poor value for my hard earned money. Really disappointing.
