BOY GEORGE IN CONCERT:
In an era where synthesizers and drum machines dominated the pop charts, Boy George defied the mainstream and created a counterculture with his distinct, soulful vocals and androgynous style. As the frontman of new wave band Culture Club, he entertained audiences around the world with rock and reggae-infused tracks, becoming one of pop's most enduring icons with his bold makeup and eccentric stagewear. It’s been eighteen years since his last solo release, and fans will be delighted to know that George will return to the spotlight in 2014 for the This Is What I Do Tour, complete with a nine-piece band, including a brass section, and plenty of glamour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Boy George rose to fame as the intriguing lead singer of Culture Club, which found commercial success with the release of their 1982 debut album Kissing To Be Clever. The record featured the international No. 1 hit “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?," launching the band to global stardom virtually overnight. Culture Club continued their chart run with “Karma Chameleon," the second single off their sophomore album Colour By Numbers, earning them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1984. Boy George started his solo career in the late ‘80s with the release of Sold, which produced several hit singles and compelled George to form his own record label, More Protein, in 1989. Over the course of his decade-spanning career, the mercurial George has reinvented himself numerous times, finding success as a DJ, fashion designer, and Tony Award-winning producer for the musical "Taboo." Hot on the heels of the 2013 release of his ninth studio album, he'll grace fans once again with his legendary showmanship on the 2014 This Is What I Do Tour.
Terrific concert . Great set list . Voice was excellent . Tom Bailey was a wonderful opening act . Thoroughly enjoyable.
Boy George and Culture Club (along with a half dozen supporting players) played a great show in Toronto. Tom Bailey and his all female Thompson Twins configuration were even better as they played an 11 song set of wonderful 80s pop nostalgia.
Both bands really were amazing. I thought Tom Bailey would be singing just a couple of songs so I was really surprised to hear most of the Thompson Twins hits from the 80's. I had seen them in '83 and Tom Bailey did a great job with their songs. Boy George continues to wow me with his talent and charisma. He really has a great attitude and makes the concert very personal by talking to the crowd between songs. I had seen Boy George in a solo concert but never have seen the band and they played all of their hits. GREAT show and a job well done. Definitely would go to see again .
Both Tom Baily and Culture Club were enjoyable. Crowd was kind and loving and respectful
Culture Club kept the crowd up dancing and singing the entire evening.
I would recommend going to see Boy George and Culture Club in concert. It was great.
Tom Baily was superb and Boy George was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed them both! Great nostalgic moments!!
Had so much fun, dancing, singing to both Tom Bailey and Culture Club. Nice to hear mixes of both old and new songs. The Sony Centre is a lovely venue and our seats were great!
Very good concert. Boy george not only sang but also made us laugh
Culture Club was awesome...but I have to say Tom Baily was amazing !!!
From the beginning of the show with Tom Bailey was amazing it was great seeing everyone singing and dancing. When Boy George came on it was electrical what a atmosphere it took someone for their bday and they also loved it would recommend it to everyone
From start to finish a fantastic show. Great music by a great band. Fantastic support singers and musicians. Top ten performance.
Awesome show! Great talent, no huge lines for drinks. However, the venue is awkward with the tilted floors instead of steps.
Brilliant night!! The seats were good but we didn’t need them...danced the whole gig!! Thompson Twins were amazing and Boy George & Culture Club brought us all back to our youth. The band, back up singers & The Boy were bloody FANTASTIC!! Great concert, great night!
I saw the band in August 2015 in Casino Rama. I feel fortunate that I was able to see them again. My mother enjoyed the show too, and even liked the opening act. Tom Bailey also brought back memories of the 1980's music too. I have been a lifelong fan of Culture Club since I was 10 years old. Their music still stays with me. It was worth coming!
I would see them again. Their voices have kept up with time and Boy George commanded the audience, in a good way.
What an awesome show from start to finish. The audience was on their feet for the entire show.
So fun Great music Amazing night George still has a great great voice
The concert was amazing. Tom Bailey excellent choice for opening act. Boy George was beyond amazing and awesome. I had no idea that he was not only a fabulous singer but so funny and entertaining. He and his band got the crowd standing dancing and singing. I love his philosophy for life how he could get personal to share a little moment before singing each song. I’m so happy that I could finally see him in real life. I wish I could have met him and have a selfie
Boy George was entertaining, funny, great performance throughout the night
