  • They still got their chops

by DougieC on 2011-05-19The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 4 out of 5

Fantastic Show....close you're eyes and you went back in time 30 years. They still got their chops. The founding members were every bit as entertainers as newer guys. Together, it was as good a show as I've seen in the last 10 years The only suggestion might be for a little more audience dialog. Not that I would have wanted to sacrifice any of the songs...but the audience interaction is what makes it a live show.and allows for a personal connection.

  • Chicago as good as ever

by tedz on 2011-05-18The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 5 out of 5

Chicago continues to perform a fantastic show . We travel annually to see them perform and are never disappointed. The only suggestion would be to include a song from "Night and Day" The venue in Windsor was fabulous.

  • Chicago's still got it after all these years!

The show that Chicago put on was a lot of fun & offered great memories!

  • Chicago "packed them in" crowd & the hits!

Chicago is truly one of the most amazing bands of the 70's era. Each individual member of this talended group of muscians was stunning!

  • disappointing

Compared with the show Chicago put on 1 year ago at the Colosseum, we found it to be disappointing. The musicality was less; there was more harsh noise = louder at the beginning than just the build-up to the end. The band members seemingly were not as passionate and "giving" as last year and the show was shorter. It was much nicer with a break inbetween to grab a refreshment, talk, use the restroom and get up and stretch.

  • Chicago

by GloryB on 2011-05-17The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 4 out of 5

I loved the Chicago concert. Have seen a number of them. I especially love Jimmy. He just makes me smile. I was not thrilled at all with the audience. Someone should have pumped them with oxygen before entering. Chicago worked really hard to get the audience involved. I was amazed from where I sat to see everyone sitting with their hands in the laps. Shame on the audience!

  • GOOD BAND & BAD SOUND

by polar on 2011-05-17The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 1 out of 5

I am disappointed. I think - CHICAGO need to change their sound engineer, as dirty-mix common sound created full discomfort . I was enforced to leave this event for long time before show's finish. Me did spend time and money for nothing.

  • by RoDS on 2011-05-17The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent performance. However, the sound management was flawed. The volume on the base drum overwelmed the speakers and created a constant rumble that quite frankly undermined the entire performance. By end I had managed to block it out somewhat but it really was disappointing. The performers were doing an excellent job....the sound mangers were not!!!

  • chicago great as everr!!!

Bought tickets to surprise my husband for his 60th birthday. He LOVED it. Sat on the edge of his seat the whole evening just "grovin". He said it was the best present ever. Had not seen the group for almost 30 years. I would have liked a little more interaction with the crowd but otherwise great performance.

  • Chicago was simply Awesome

This was one of the best band performances I have ever been to. Their sound hasn't changed a bit over the years. The brass instruments give their music a unique sound that was simply awesome.

  • Chicago did exceed my expectations

by Koby on 2010-08-30River Rock Casino Resort - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the Chicago concert at the River Rock Casino Resort. The seating and sound system was very good and Chicago gave a memorable performance. I was really impressed with the stage presence and the ability of the band members after performing so many concerts, to be able to have fun onstage. The brass section gave that destinct Chicago sound and the vocal quality hasn't change for over 30 years. I have always wanted to see Chicago perform live and I wasn't disappointed.

  • Chicago still rocks.

Many people view Chicago as a ballad band because their most known songs, especially their songs from the 80s, were ballads. However if you have seen them live they are definitely far from that label that has pigeon holed them through most their career. Those mellow songs were played but some of the more uptempo songs were the ones that gets the crowd moving (ie. 25 or 6 to 4). Most of the songs performed were from Chicago Transit Authority to Chicago 17 the albums original bassist and vocalist Peter Cetera were on. While some people might see this current version of the band as a cover band I think having the brass section and keyboardist /vocalist Robert Lamm keeps them from sounding like one. While I do agree that some of the Cetera songs do not translate well on current bassist Jason Scheff (especially when he sometimes struggles with those top notes) on some songs like You're the Inspiration and Just You and Me he actually sounds more at home with them. Also, I personally think new member Lou Pardini sings the songs originally sang by late guitarist Terry Kath (Make Me Smile, Dialogue) way better than Bill Champlin. Champlin would normally change the melody way too much and his raspy voice gets irritating at times. Pardini's voice however sounds more suitable to those songs and he not only sang the Champlin sung songs but he also sang Call on Me which was sung by Peter Cetera. Trumpet player Lee Loughnane sang Colour My World which was also a nice surprise. Another fine addition to the on stage line up is percussionist Drew Hester and he really added a missing element on the songs of that era and he did not get in the way of drummer Tris Imboden. They have not had an auxiliary percussionist since Laudir de Oliveira left 30 years ago. Overall the band was tight. Even though trombone player James Pankow was not there Nick Lane did an admirable job. The brass section(Loughnane, Lane and woodwind player Walt Parazaider) and Keith Howland's guitar solos were the reasons why the show rocked and not a slow dance that a lot of people expected. Check this band out whenever they come to town because they always put on a great show.

  • Chicago just gets better all the time!

by BaguioFan on 2010-08-30River Rock Casino Resort - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The acoustics at the River Rock Theatre made for really tight sounds from the horn section--awesome! Walter Parazaider, Lee Loughnane and company looked like they were having so much fun, but amid all the exuberance they wowed the audience with their expert playing. Chicago just gets better and better all the time! The playlist included excellent choices of classics from the 70s that reminded me why I started listening to Chicago as a teenager growing up in the Philippines. To me, it was magical when our airwaves would play "Beginnings," "Happy Cause I'm Going Home," "Dialogue," "All is Well," "Saturday in the Park," "Call on Me," and "Wishing You Were Here." Growing up with the sounds of those horns and harmonies (and other groups of the time) influenced my musical tastes forever. Throughout the evening, there were chances to rediscover the brilliance of some compositions whose value have stood the test of time. Maybe the advantage of getting older is that when we hear compositions like "Ballet for a Girl from Buchannon" by Jimmy Pankow, we can appreciate the arrangements written into each movement and the intricacies of each player's performance on the trumpet, flute, sax, or trombone. Robert Lamm's keyboard solo on "Colour My World" reminded me of my early teens when that was "THE song" to learn on the piano. The lyrics of "I've Been Searching so Long" make more sense to me now than they ever did before. Aside from all these serious thoughts, It was just so great to hear the energy in a song like "Mongonucleosis" again! Also, the show wasn't just a plain old list of "revivals" of old formula hits. There were variations and twists in the performances that kept a newness about the songs. For example, "Colour My World" took on a fresh sound because of Lee's vocals. I think the power in Lou Pardini's voice on "Dialogue" adds a very welcome edge to the harmonies, which were amazing from start to finish.. Jason's singing was way clearer at the River Rock than it was several years ago at GM Place in Vancouver. The combinations on the back-up vocals blew me away. Bravo to the whole band and Robert Lamm on "Beginnings." That piece is one of my long-standing favourites, with its opening guitar chords, harmonies, and brass backbone. In fact, when the last note of that song died out and the audience cheered, I almost thought it would be so natural if Robert Lamm and the band could just play it all over again! It was an evening of rich sounds, infectious joy, and whether you were seated and clapping along to the beats or dancing in the mosh pit, the delight and energy which the music brought was unmistakable. That concert left me feeling thankful for the music I have listened to in my life. I wouldn't change a thing about the times I've grown up in and the places I've been. Thanks Chicago, for sharing your love for music and your joy with us all these years on our journeys. Keep taking care of yourselves, and here's to many more!

We totally enjoyed the show. The venue is unbelievable, the music was great and the fact that you were allowed (encouraged) to go up front and dance was awesome. I left this show on a high. While the band doesn't have a lot of its original members, they have managed to keep the sound and vocals right on. I would highly recommend this band to anyone who loved Chicago in the day but I bet new fans would totally enjoy it too.
