Fleet Foxes - Practically Perfect in Every Way

by AncientCat on 2011-07-31Massey Hall - Toronto

As good as their recordings are, the Fleet Foxes live are even better. From the moment they stepped on stage and began to play the first few notes until the very end, their concert was beautiful and perfect. They are wonderful musicians and very precise in both their instrumental and vocal performance, but they're not just technical perfectionists: they also exude a great deal of soul and emotion. I'm an older fan, probably 20 or 30 years older than the average FF fan, and I've seen a few concerts in my time, but I have to say, this was among the best, if not the very best concert, I've seen in many, many years. To those who haven't heard them live, do not miss the chance when they come to your town. They are absolutely wonderful.

    The Best Live Band Around

by Sights on 2011-07-20Massey Hall - Toronto

I have been to the Fleet Foxes shows both times at Massey Hall and I have to say they are absolutely incredible live. They sound as good if not better than they do on album. Furthermore, they are incredibly interactive with the fans which makes for a relaxed atmosphere along the lines of hanging out with a bunch of friends. I'm definitely a veteran of concerts I go to many many shows every year but Fleet Foxes have to be the best live band around. I couldn't recommend their music or live shows more. Just go to the show and enjoy an unforgettable night.

You must see this band at some point in your life!

by Dreas on 2011-07-17Massey Hall - Toronto

This was the first time I saw Fleet Foxes live and they were better than I ever could have imagined. One of the great harmony groups of all time -- reminiscent of CSNY and Simon & Garfunkel. And I don't say that lightly because those guys are/were brilliant. I felt like I had gone back in time and was lucky enough to witness one of the great legends.

Once in a lifetime music experience

by JanaR on 2009-08-09Massey Hall - Toronto

I cannot describe what happened that night, the energy was phenomenal. The band blew us all away, somehow sounding more amazing live than on a mastered recording. At one point, standing alone, he unplugged his guitar, stepped away from the mic, and alone, sang to Masey Hall, as loud as he could, he projected and was in perfect tune. You could hear a pin drop in that sold out crowd, all of our jaws were on the floor. Two encores! And the lead singer could not have been anymore humble and grateful for the love we threw at him. This is the band that will have a legacy as this generations Simon and Garfunkle.

In my top five concerts of my 28 yrs of existance

by TOcloh on 2009-08-09Massey Hall - Toronto

Amazing band. Awesome venue. Incredible show. Three things that made this event perfect. I've seen over 50 bands this year play. This is without a doubt the best show I've seen all year. (Though, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs show the night after was pretty awesome - this was by far top of the heap). Next time they're in town. Do it. Get the tickets and enjoy!

by jennad on 2009-08-08Massey Hall - Toronto

Robin's vocal abilities are incredible. I mean, I love the music but seeing them live was a million times better. I can't get over it. I would see them again and again and again.

    Amazing show

by fleetfoxesfan on 2009-08-07Massey Hall - Toronto

The concert was incredible. Robin played one acoustic song at the edge of the stage without a mic or an amp, which was the highlight of the show for sure. Great venue, very intimate. Can't wait to see them again!!

    Amazing

by InBetweenIsMine on 2009-08-07Massey Hall - Toronto

This concert could not have been any better. Massey Hall was built for musicians like the Fleet Foxes. Their voices resonated beautifully throughout the whole building. It was one of those shows that you just didn't want to end.

Incredible! I was a pretty big fan before hand but the venue was superb, the band was brilliant and very entertaining, 2 encores...amazing. The harmonies they pull off are killer..completely deadly. Definitely one of the best shows I've EVER seen. I loved it. Don't know what else to say but "absolutely amazing".

    Fantastic Fleet Foxes

    by Kate28 on 2009-08-05Massey Hall - Toronto

You know when you over hype yourself for a show? You love the band so much and you are so excited that you count down the days until they hit the stage. You build up your expectations so high that it is near impossible for any performance to live up to that ideal that you have formed in your mind. Last night Fleet Foxes exceeded my expectations. And then some. Fleet Foxes trotted unto the legendary Massey Hall stage just after their “favorite band”, Swedish psychedelic folk fellows Dungen played their open slot set. The show was sold out so needless to say the place was packed. As the band welcomed and thanked us they began what was an incredible set. Massey Hall’s acoustics are pretty spectacular compared to many newer venues built these days (sorry Sound Academy but it is true). These acoustic simply added to the bands already breath taking (like chilling amazing words cannot describe just how talented these guys are) vocals. Sometimes in a seated venue with a band playing slower songs, there can be a lack of energy. A loss of that spark as some get sleepy. Once again not at all the case. The audience was constantly yelling their thoughts and remarks with enthusiasm and love, to which the band responded to laughingly. It was like a friendly joking conversation between friends. “I REALLY LIKE YOU GUYS” was answered with leading man Robin Pecknold continuing on the banter with “THIS ISN’T USUALLY MY TYPE OF MUSIC, BUT FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH I CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE LIKE YOU!” After someone yelled about how a certain one of their songs had been stuck in their head all day, Robin answered that he personally can’t get Jeremih’s Birthday Sex, out of his head as he sang to us “Tell me how you want your gift girl”. After an audience member tried to stat a slow clap (I am not kidding) drummer Josh Tilma took the task upon himself starting his own slow clap and got all of Massey Hall clapping along. After playing a full set of favorites and new songs (which have me oh so excited for their new album) the crowd gave a hearty standing ovation. Robin came out for the encore on his own playing a truly acoustic song. By this I mean he unplugged his guitar and just walked to the front of the stage and began to sing as the crown went silent. The rest of the band joined him at the end for the hauntingly beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and then as they walked off stage they were met with yet another standing ovation. Robin came back for a second encore, and not knowing what else to play asked the crowd for requests. After much more yelling it was decided that he’d play Meadowlark even though he apparently had not played that song in a year. You would have never guess as it was flawless. Many times throughout the show the Fleet Foxes thanked the crowd and stated that this show and their show in Montreal the night before were their two favorites. Kind words from a set of brilliantly talented long haired and bearded men. The show ended with a third standing ovation as At Last began to play on the speakers.

    Great show

    by nf07zh on 2009-08-05Massey Hall - Toronto

The Fleet Foxes played a great show, and definately played their songs well. The only area that the concert lacked of was some between-song banter on stage. Robin Pecknold seemed to take a long time between songs tuning his guitar all the way through the concert, and neither he or the band had much to say to keep people entertained. While this made some long awkward pauses a couple times, other times people in the crowd would shout something out and then they would get talking, which had some funny moments. Besides taking too long for transitions they had a fantastic show and I would definately see them again after another album.

by sstranzl on 2009-08-05Massey Hall - Toronto

I had an unforgettable time at the concert last night! I brought a friend who hadn't heard of Fleet Foxes before and she absolutely loved it. Before I went I had only heard their songs on you tube, and I must say, those videos do not do them justice. They were simply amazing.

    Great Show/Venue! WOW

by Mutz on 2009-08-05Massey Hall - Toronto

The band sounded phenominal and they played a great set! The band was very interactive with the crowd and put on a great show because of it. The lead singer was extremely humble, and overall just a satisfying concert!
