Tony Dekker has an amazing voice. He tells a story and you experience it through his vocals. Very talented group of artists.

Small, intimate show! In1 word - awesome!
by MarzipanBC on 2016-12-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5Loved every second! Jokes/stories in between songs.
The Band was great. The venue was unbearably hot!
by OMC1 on 2015-05-28West End Cultural Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5The Great Lake Swimmers are, without a doubt, the best Canadian band. Tony Dekker is an exceptional songwriter who fronts a very accomplished band. Miranda Mulholland, the violinist, adds some wonderful flourishes and gives the band just a touch of sexiness. The only negative comment is that the WECC venue was ridiculously overheated. The temperature in the room was at least 30 degrees Celsius. The staff refused to do anything about this problem.

Prior to going to this show, I hadn't heard a lot of their music and since this show, I can't get enough GLS. They put on an amazing show with performances that were memorable when returning the the album afterwards. Even though I hadn't heard the album "New Wild Everywhere" before, I could remember all the songs from their performance. Memorable, beautiful, absolutely amazing.
A pleasant evening...sans kids.
by DripDrip on 2012-06-13The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5My wife and I were able to escape parenthood for an evening to listen to one of the finest bands of our time. An awesome evening of music. The overall tone and atmosphere that GLS creates is simply relaxing and refreshing all rolled into one. Every minute was steeped in soothing instrumentals and of course the excellent vocals. The audience was a tremendous mix of youth and experience all sharing a common purpose. I will definitely jump at the opportunity to hear Great Lake Swimmers live again.

Great Lakes Swimmers rock TO and Montreal
by RosemontAlpha on 2010-03-13Trinity-St. Paul's Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5Had the great fortune to see the band at Trinity United and a few weeks later in Montreal at the Metropolis when they opened for Calexico. The Trinity St Paul's venue is fantastic- great acoustics and really suits the band- a larger venue might not have the ambiance and work for their very acoustic style- the band were tight, great energy and kept the audience entranced. The opening act, Sharon Ennis was a breath of fresh air, no hokey show biz here but personal and vulnerable talent. The Metropolis show was also a great show, band was super tight though I fealt that they may have held back a bit, as an opening act? No need to, cause Calexico rocked the house- standing stage front it was a great experience- the vocals were great, drumming and I love the violin.... GLS are a truly great Canadian band.... they ought to drop by my acreage for a beer sometime...
Great Lake Swimmers
by Fuerth on 2010-02-09Vogue Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5Besides a small mishap with the initial set up involving the Decker's guitar, the band was tight, showcasing their understanding of the songs and their instruments. That being said, the highlight of the show was definitely when the band left the stage to Decker alone. His solo, more stripped down versions (which are the true versions of his older work) offer a simpler, more enjoyable beauty to what is put fourth from the full band. Decker's angelic voice is best featured with minimal instrumentation, as to not drown it out. Too much violin adds an unnecessary twangy sound to the Swimmers' music.
GLS treading water
by Wani on 2010-02-08Trinity-St. Paul's Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5Great Lakes Swimmers was a bit of a monotone ride to nowhere. They are musical and creative but not saturday night. The sound wasn't all that great upstairs. The group however did not have a full rich sound and the mike for the vocals could have been louder. The opening act was horrid. Poor singing and every song sounded the same. Impossible to sit through although good for napping.
