    Amazing talented John Butler Trio

by Margona on 2014-02-11The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

John Butler is an amazing artist and admirable human being. I was so happy to be able to see him here in Toronto. He is certainly an exceptional talent on guitar and any other string instrument he seeks to play.. One note on some folks in the crowd...they had moments that were exceedingly rude to many people (I heard many comments after the show), and to JBT included. Smoking weed and cigarrettes, drunken loud behaviour, yelling over JB when he was speaking...I know everyone wants to have a good time, but to get continuously shoved and nearly burned by some persons trying to light up, well that just was not cool. All things considered, I loved JBT's performance. Just not the crowd.

John Butler is beyond the audience

by foyt on 2011-07-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Butler has a tight trio who can put it out. Great originality , solid riff based tunes , reasonable vocals , drummer held it together. The audience was often baffled by his soloing and 97% only knew his few songs that get radio play. Too bad because the golden moments were the times when the under 25 yr olds who were mostly there for the "scene" talked and hollered and were visibly disinterested . The sound man also seemed disinterested in the vocal/instrumental balance so he gets a C+ for his efforts. We left before the rush to the parking lot. It's been a lot of years since I did that.

John Butler Trio cannot be missed!

by Raisa on 2011-07-18Sound Academy - Toronto

JBT rocked up ready to go and so did the crowd! They played an awesome set list and kept their energy high. Everyone was happy, dancing, and just loving it. They had a great percussion battle and played some great encore songs including a new release with JB and Mama King fundraising for "Save The Kimberleys". I would recommend going to anyone...unbelievable show!!

The positively outstanding John Butler Trio

by fhaedra on 2010-11-28Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

I've wanted to see John Butler Trio for a long while so this concert was much anticipated. I have the feeling that in the not too distant future, they won't be playing at such accessible gigs. The performance? Utterly outstanding! High energy, powerful, beautiful, inspired tunes played expertly by three guys who give you the impression that there's NOTHING they would rather be doing than playing right there, just like that. They were riveting, absolutely. Anyone who's listened/seen John Butler knows he's a virtual instrumental genius, but the thing is, this is a trio wherein each member is outstanding in his own right. They are so well suited for each other, each one so great to watch. This trio is a versatile powerhouse, capable of executing the most fragile of acoustic tunes, the unmistakable can'tstandstill reggae rhythm, to the most raucous rock'nroll a music afficionado could seek. Yes! people respond to these guys because they give so much to the performance and have so much to offer. Lyrically, well, the tunes are of quality and inspiration. It's easily one of the best concerts I've seen this year. A note on Mat McHugh, the opening act: a songwriter and performer who did well in his dubious position as the opener. A good player with tunes worth the listen certainly. I haven't heard his band, but people seemed familiar and excited to see him perform at this concert. If you get a chance to see JBT, get out there. Go, without hesitation, Go.

    JBT blew me away!!! AMAZING!!!

by newjbtfan on 2010-11-28Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

This was one of the most surreal concerts I've ever seen. John Butler is one of the most talented artists around today in my opinion. The amount of instruments that he has mastered, and the sounds that he creates can send shivers up your spine. The drummer (can't recall his name) is amazing as well. Also love The Burt Theatre. The vibe was perfect, and JBT was obviously having a blast! They weren't working....they were doing what they loved! The guitar solo for Ocean was absolutley mind blowing. And the drum trio in "Funky Tonight" was phenomenal. 10 OUT OF 5 STARS!!

The show was amazing! The second time I've seen them and they just get better. They tried so hard to get the crowd into the music and pumped up. The crowd was pretty lame and wasn't very exciting. Last time I saw them was in Vancouver, the crowd there is much better. Next time your at a concert, enjoy it.

    JBT = Virtuoso!

by Jayhoo42 on 2010-11-26Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

This show was one of the best I've ever seen. John Butler and his band give the lie to anyone who says there is no good "new" music. In short order, these three guys converted a typically sluggish Winnipeg audience into believers. Great humour, great crowd-interaction, and amazing music. I was a fan before I went, and the show was everything I expected out of them after listening to the "Live at Gallen". As always, the walker theatre building is a beautiful venue, which complemented the experience and likely helped produced the inspired (and inspiring) performance witnessed by all who attended. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get them to come back for Folkfest in the summer!

    JBT!! Winnipeg

by nevasteph on 2010-11-26Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Absolutely amazing show. I've been a fan for years and haven't had the chance to see them live. They only played three shows last tour through Canada. They sound amazing live. The encore made the show, excellent ending to a worthy evening.

    Very funky tonight

by DynamoJ on 2010-11-26Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

This was one of those concerts that come around once in a while and completely blow you away, if winnipeg folk fest is listening you should be trying as hard as you can to get these guys to come and play. Matt McHugh was awesome it was great to hear some of my favourite beautiful girls songs stripped down and down with just an acoustic guitar. John Butler is an amazing guitarist and was very tight, all three of them are just extremely talented.

John Butler Trio brings it all!!

by TrevB on 2010-11-26Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Spent a year in Australia, bought their CD and was happy to hear they were coming to Winnipeg. Wasn't prepared for how awesome the show was going to be!! So much energy from John, puts on a great concert! You can tell he's a really nice guy just by his on stage interactions with the technicians and with the crowd. Great entertainers, loved the drum solo, ridiculously awesome guitar solo! Thanks for the show!
