About

Journey is a multi-platinum-selling rock band from San Francisco, California. Originally formed by former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band and Frumious Bandersnatch, the band’s current lineup includes guitarist and backing vocalist Neal Schon, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, keyboardist and guitarist Jonathan Cain, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, bassist Todd Jensen and drummer Deen Castronovo. After releasing a few albums — including their self-titled 1975 debut — throughout the early ‘70s, Journey reached a new height of commercial success on the charts with Infinity (1978), Evolution (1979) and Departure (1980), all of which were certified multi-platinum in the U.S. The band earned their first chart-topping album in 1981 with Escape, which also yielded massive hits like “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Open Arms.” Over the decades, Journey has continued to release studio albums and tour the world as one of the best-selling rock acts in music history, with their most recent album, Freedom, released in 2022.

  • 80's Rock at its Best

by Fillthenet on 2012-11-29Credit Union Center - SaskatoonRating: 4 out of 5

Opening Act - Night Ranger still thought they were in the 80's running around head banging, but loved it. Played for 40 minutes. Great songs but they left out Sentimental Street. 20 minute set break Middle Act - Loverboy can still belt out the tunes. Played for 40 minutes. Not much of a stage show. Started slow but finished strong with all their major hits. Had the crowd on its feet to the point of almost chanting encore. 25 minute set break Main Act - Journey - Played for 90 minutes. Arnel Pineda knows how to work the stage and the crowd. He is just as good as Perry but was starting to lose his energy and voice by the end. Great songs but too many guitar riffs that lost the crowd. I actually would have liked to seen a few more songs of Night Ranger though. Any one of these Bands could be the headliner. For the price, one heck of a rock show. Must attend.

  • Journey was amazing!!!

by Donnalbrassor on 2012-11-29Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Night Ranger was ok. With Loverboy I was loving every minute of it. With Journey I wasnt expecting much but the new singer who took over for Steve Perry was amazing. I didn't expect much but I got more than I expected. I would for sure go again and see them. The whole concert was an 80's flashback. The only sucky part was the seats were not comfortable. I had to keep standing up because my legs kept cramping up because there was no room for my legs. Just after Journey came on stage my husband had to get up and walk around (he never came back to our seats) because we were so cramped in our seats.

  • LOVERBOY ROCKED THE HOUSE AAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++

by SHEKAT on 2012-11-29Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Allthough Journey wasnt what I expected Loverboy more than made up for it prooving that you do get better with age Night Ranger put it out too.

  • A must see for all Journey lovers

by Soncho on 2012-11-28Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was so good! Arnell did a great job, both singing and participating with the crowd. The songs were a mix of old and new. The sound was great, the energy was high and it was amazing!!

  • Journey was late!

    by Henny45 on 2012-11-28Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

I enjoyed what I saw but was extremely disappointed in how late they started. As it was Sunday night my husband and I had to leve t 10:45 and at that point I think they were just getting warmed up! Many people started leaving around 10:30. I enjoyed Loverboy as well but they performed longer than Journey and they were only the opening act! Next time you come to calgary start your concert at 9 pm!! We are huge fans and this was supposed to be our 10th Anniversary celebration!

  • Journey in Edmonton: Enjoyable but not amazing

by JoyNoy on 2012-11-28Rexall - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Rexall was almost full and I was happy for Journey that Edmontonians, both young and old, came out to see them. I came with my husband, our teen-age daughter and two friends. Arnel Pineda, current frontman of Journey, was great despite his recent bout with laryngitis. He's a superb singer and knows how to work the crowd. I truly enjoyed his performance and his ability to deliver the songs despite the very loud guitar and drums. I would have given the concert 5 stars if the rest of the band tried to play better music by working together. Lover Boy did that and with great results! I hope that Neil will take peoples' comments seriously. Music is not about loudness! The music engineers of Journey should realize that the audience want to hear and understand the lyrics and instruments should never drown the voice of the lead vocalist. The setlist didn't include any new song. I know most people want the classics but it won't hurt to play new songs, too. I was hoping to listen to After All These Years, Turn Down the World Tonight, City of Hope and Resonate. Overall, Journey is still very good, and with the addition of Arnel Pineda, I'm sure music lovers like me will continue going to their concerts.

  • loverboy and night ranger awesome

    by 32fordtwodoor on 2012-11-28Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

We found loverboy and night ranger great. New songs were very enjoyable. Journey was a sad dissapointment, some fo the old songs were to be sung along with, but way too loud. Lots of people including us left early because it was just too loud for enjoyment.

  • 30 year old music still ROCKS!!

by dieselcarp on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Night Ranger brought back some memories, and tha fact that so many 50 year old men sang along to "Sister Christian"says it all. Loverboy is still amazing after all these years. They had the whole Saddledome rockin hard! Mike Reno can still belt them out, and this band still has its original sound. Journey....Well what can't you say about this group of guys. Their songs are iconic, and have been part of all our lives in one way or another. The musicians are amazing. Deen Castonovo's drums rattled the nose bleed section wonderfully, truly a master of the skins. The sound and visuals were spectacular, the showmanship extrordinary. Arnel Pineda has a sound eerily close to that of Steve Perry, though lacking the feeling and attachment to the lyrics. His energy and passion for the performance offset the hammy nature of his moves. All in all, the whole show fit together well and left many with a good experience, and brought back so many memories.

  • Dissapointed

by hardflaco on 2012-11-27Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

Very disapointed with the return on Journey! The new singer just dos not fit with the band and was not even close to the original.............. Sound was poor for a band of this category. Loverboy in the other hand was just Amazing !!!!!!!!

  • Journey with special guest Loverboy

by Leih on 2012-11-27MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome performance by every1 especially by Arnel. Only, he should connect more w/ the audience or should be help by other members as well.

  • Journey was great!

    by Ellen324 on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The concert was great - I wished there would have been more singing with Journey. I found there was a lot of instruments being played - as if to show the crowd what great musicians they were.

  • Amazing- but not why you may think....

by HaremScarem on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

.......Night Ranger and Loverboy were awesome. Great energy, seemed like they were really having fun cranking out their hits- and exciting to watch. While Journey was good- they seemed a bit "going thru the motions" and not as into it- other than Deen - he was a monster on drums! Still a great show- but I would say Night Ranger, then Loverboy- stood out the most and memorable.

  • by Tee1 on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

All 3 bands were amazing! had a blast at the concert!

  • Reliving the 80's

by JBCalgary on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Arnell Pineda is an AMAZING vocalist! I think he's got more soul than Steve Perry... and I loved Steve Perry. The band sounded great but every song had some sort of musical solo or they played an "extended version". By the end of the concert I was thinking, "just get on with it already!"

  • Still Rockin

by joyraine on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

In the words of my husband "I am loving every minute of it!!!"

  • by Hurryhard on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Concert was one of the best I have seen in years. Worth the money most definitely!!!

  • Journey delivers a great show

by Kazadum on 2012-11-27Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Journey played an amazing 1hr 45min set, a mixture of their most popular songs, other album cuts and some great new material. Arnel has been a great addition to the line-up, singing with tremendous emotion. He really got the crowd going, getting everyone to their feet. Night Ranger and Loverboy who each played an opening 30min set, were a really good addition to the tour warming up the crowd.

  • Journey with Night Ranger and Loverboy

    by mika123 on 2012-11-26Saddledome, - Calgary,Rating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed Night Ranger, they came out on stage like seasoned rockers ready to party. They had a ton of energy. Loverboy was great! Music was not overpowering so you could hear the lyrics. Journey was a bit of a disappointment. Still a really good show. I thought that Arnel was a little weak. He seemed to come across as losing energy throughout the performance. The music over powered his voice. He sounds like Steve but he isn't. Perhaps the soundmen could have toned down the lead guitar, at times it was screechy. Otherwise the band put on a good show, showed us how well they could play and jam together.

  • Journey was Awesome!

by mlarick on 2012-11-26MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Loverboy was very good..........they sound almost the same as 25/30 years ago. And Journey......awesome, awesome, awesome! Arnel is a great performer and sounds exactly like Steve Perry........and I love Steve Perry's "voice"

  • Journey Good - Loverboy Not So Much

    by Riskman1 on 2012-11-24MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

With Loverboy, Spider's bass & Matt Frenette's drums were all we could hear in section 120, booms and vibrations. No lyrics & no guitar, etc. Awful. Improved somewhat by the end of the set but still far from good. Journey was a big improvement. At Moondance 2 years ago they were awesome ! Could tell Arnell P. was trying to protect his voice this time. Grateful to see them nonetheless. Look after your voice Arnell, we'll be back next time, but let's do it on a Friday, not a Monday nite !
