About

Journey is a multi-platinum-selling rock band from San Francisco, California. Originally formed by former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band and Frumious Bandersnatch, the band’s current lineup includes guitarist and backing vocalist Neal Schon, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, keyboardist and guitarist Jonathan Cain, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, bassist Todd Jensen and drummer Deen Castronovo. After releasing a few albums — including their self-titled 1975 debut — throughout the early ‘70s, Journey reached a new height of commercial success on the charts with Infinity (1978), Evolution (1979) and Departure (1980), all of which were certified multi-platinum in the U.S. The band earned their first chart-topping album in 1981 with Escape, which also yielded massive hits like “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Open Arms.” Over the decades, Journey has continued to release studio albums and tour the world as one of the best-selling rock acts in music history, with their most recent album, Freedom, released in 2022.

  • So disappointed!

    by Ginny58 on 2012-11-24MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

The music was so loud that the lead singer had to scream the lyrics out. This greatly affected the quality of his voice. I was so looking forward to hearing him sing that I left feeling like I paid way too much money for this concert. It could have been so great!!!

  • Loverboy rocked it!!

by Bridgette on 2012-11-22MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Journey was amazing, so much energy! But Loverboy definitely stole the show they were fantastic. They played all the hits and had the crowd on their feet and completely into their music. Overall great concert, so much energy and talent all around!!

  • great concert

by camp on 2012-11-22MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Both bands played excellent. The new journey singer was as close as gets to Steve Perry.Only negative was night ranger was on the original venue but cancelled last minute

  • Nostalgia means playing it like the original CD!!

by thehagsman on 2012-11-22MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Journey : Couple critical jabs. People like to hear their hit songs played back as they remember them or just like the CD. Although the singer was good, he would alter the arrangement slightly and it lessened the experience. The same could be said of the lead guitar. It was like he was trying to fill time with a extra long solo in every second song. The playlist include all the favorites a fan would be looking for!! The sound quality was not quite up to par with other acts in this venue. First time in a long time that I left with a buzz in my ears. It was like the guitar heads had the overdrive set a little to high. Lover boy : They played a great set. I forgot how many hits they really had. I would say they did a better job of playing it just like I remembered it than Journey.

  • Journey

by TrishMo on 2012-11-22MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

I think 4 smiles as well as four stars would be an appropriate review for the concert! Enjoyed it from beginning to end!

  • Fabulous!

by CJHJ on 2012-11-22MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Start to finish great! Too many late people and drinkers up and down the aisle!!!!!block the view. Where was Night Ranger?????

  • Journey! Not a bad show!

    by Norton40 on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Loverboy opened. Night Ranger was also supposed to be part of the show. I guess they were a no show. Thats a bit lame!! Too bad Pat Benetar didn't continue on with this tour, I saw her set list. Wow! Journey was pretty good sans Steve Perry. A true 3 star show! It could have been 4-5 stars with additions of Steve Perry and Pat Benetar to this show. All in all the show was good. We enjoyed it. Seeing many concerts every year my wife and I both agreed this to be a three star show.

  • these ol' boys have still got it!

    by bootlegger123 on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

the concert was a nice event. the boys were rocking the stage pretty good, especially the new singer for journey. that guy has copius amounts of energy lol would like to have seen the other opening band, but even without them the concert was still a sucess :)

  • Amazing return to the 80,s

    by Journey4eva on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Had 4th row tickets on floor, which ended up being front row with the shape of the stage. The performance by Loverboy, and Journey was incredible. I can't believe the energy they all had. Still as good as I remember growing up.

  • Journey Well worth It !!

by inthebiz on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Being part of the 50+ gang I enjoy all the older classic rock music and concerts and this was no exception. Although Steve Perry was the "journey" voice in the 80's and 90's and a remarkable singer, Mr. Arnel Pineda did a faboulous job with vocals. Arnel sounded quite similiar but with his own touch. Kareoke???... maybe so to a degree, but these classic rock bands from the seventy's & eighties is what I want to hear today. Sure I would buy a couple of tickets if they made it back to Winnipeg!! Funny thing...opening act Loverboy was trying to find my future wife's high school, that they were hired to play at for the school dance. They stopped and knocked on her door for directions to Neelin High School....Hmm wonder if they remember Brandon MB?

  • Journey was great!

by Katelynne on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

I was impressed! Both bands were great. Loveryboy was much better than I originally thought they would be! By far one of the best concerts I've been to!

  • by OldMusicLover on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Loverboy was very good. Sound was great, lots of energy, very good show. Journey - the lead singer, and band are awesome! A great show. Sound man should be shot. It was mixed very poorly, as there were many instances where the singing was drowned out. Made a truely fantastic concert into a very good one.

  • Journey concert

by cmdm on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

Show was alright; nothing spectacular. When we bought tickets for $90 each we were under the assumption that there would be 3 bands playing for the evening. Acoustics not great either; speakers crackled.

  • by xtreme on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

it would have been a better show if you could actually hear the vocals, thank goodness I new the words to some of the songs otherwise it was just a whole lot of noise

  • by Rocker61 on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

I think the show was very good. Loverboy was good and the new singer for Journey was amazing.

  • by LLWL on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Overall a good show... disapointed no Night Ranger.... as per what was advertised when tickets went on sale.

  • by Rad4 on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Initially disappointed with sound quality...which seemed to improve through the Loverboy set and into Journey. Disappointed with last minute deletion of Night Ranger from line-up. Bought tickets with the impression there would be three bands as advertised. Over all pretty good show!

  • Great!!

by Debzi on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show! Started right on time... the break between the acts was done well.... the crowd was great. Totally awesome show. (the bass overpowered the vocals a bit during Loverboy or maybe it was where I was sitting). Journey was terrific & a great encore!!

  • Jorney was disappointing

by bison on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

Night Ranger was a no show, lover boy surprised the hell out of me, The Fat guy still has a set of pipes. Extended guitar solo's were over the top and the sound was horrible. i heard so much about the new lead singer and this wonderful voice i only wish I could have heard him. on top of this he wished all Canadians a Happy Thanksgiving wrong country dude...... we are not in the US. The concert took pace November 19th. a couple of hundred bucks down the tubes, i could have used the money for Xmas gifts for the family. can you say refund?. The first four songs i witnessed several people leaving.

  • Nice night out

by Hamsham on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Let me start by asking, Why was Pat Benatar not a component of this concert as with other sites?" Secondly, why did Night Ranger not show up (not that I care as I'm not a fan, just curious?) The show itself was good. Loverboy are tight. They thoroughly enjoy what they do and Mike Reno is to be commended on keeping his voice in tip top shape over all these years, he sounds awesome. Journey (not a big fan, went more for a night out with my wife) were good. Neal Schon is a vastly under rated guitarist and should be discussed in the same breath as " the all-time greats". His work with HSAS 1983-84 was spectacular. Journey put on a good performance and played all the hits and more but for some reason the vocalist seemed a little karaokeish, but good.
