JUDY COLLINS IN CONCERT:

Legendary singer-songwriter Judy Collins has lent her iconic voice to an impressive range of genres over her five decade career, from her beloved folk work to acclaimed forays into rock and show tunes. Whether she's taking fans down memory lane with nostalgic performances of "Both Sides, Now" or breaking hearts with "Send in the Clowns," Collins never fails to imbue her material with the wistful romance that makes her performances so moving. Back on the road with a diverse collection of classic material, she is set to stun on her upcoming tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Seattle, Collins grew up studying classical piano under the rigorous tutelage of acclaimed pianist Antonia Brico. After being exposed to folk music in her teens by her radio DJ father, she made a shift towards lyric-based guitar music. Immersing herself in Greenwich Village's folk scene, Collins worked as a street performer and played small clubs before eventually attracting the attention of Elektra Records and releasing her 1961 debut A Maid of Constant Sorrow. While her early albums offered a straightforward folk sound, she branched out on 1966's In My Life, recording songs by artists as diverse as Leonard Cohen and Jacques Brel and incorporating lush orchestration -- a bold move for a folk artist at the time.  The stylistic shift proved a success, earning her a Grammy in 1968 for "Both Sides, Now" and setting the tone for much of her later work. Collins continues to be a consummate performer, stunning fans around the world with her continued grace and charm in concert.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Cannot believe what a marvelous voice at age 74. A truly spectacular performance by a vital artist!"

Judy Collins of the silver voice

by Hurricane Lyn on 2022-07-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Her first notes sent shivers - so high, clear and strong! Great to hear the new songs as well as some familiar tunes. Loved the stories, poetry and humour throughout. The piano was a joy to hear so well played. An uplifting night which will be well remembered.

    Judy Collins is still amazing

by Al on 2022-07-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

A fine concert with Judy on 12-string guitar and her music director on piano and adding occasional harmony vocals. Near the end she played piano herself on several numbers. The expected greatest hits and of course some of her own songs from her new album. I admit that I wondered whether she would still be able to sing at age 83. The answer is a resounding yes. Not only sing but introduce her songs, and play both of her instruments well. A generous concert going on two hours with no intermission. Absolutely a five star evening and the audience gave her an instant standing ovation. Competition from some great acts at BluesFest plus a sold-out performance of Hamilton in Southam Hall may explain why the Theatre was only two-thirds full.

Just a great artist beginning in the 60’s and still engaging and magnified in her golden years. The voice is still unique and strong! An excellent evening to her some great classics and some new songs. Judy is amazing!

    Judy- Always the perfect voice

by OMC1 on 2013-11-06West End Cultural Centre - Winnipeg

This was an exceptional concert with Judy and her arranger. Pitch perfect vocal and arrangements. Flawless piano work by both. Judy performed some of her originals, My Father and Born To the Breed, as well as her perfect renditions of songs by other songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Jimmy Webb and the usual suspects. Go see her when she comes to your city. You won't be disappointed.

    Judy Collins was exceptional

by Dee3 on 2013-11-06West End Cultural Centre - Winnipeg

Sat mesmerized from start to finish...the vocal talent was amazing and she delivered the songs with a story or explanation and used humor effectively. She is down to earth and encouraged audience participation.

Judy Collins performed for an hour and forty-five minutes without a break. Her voice is still wonderful and I would highly recommend anyone who loves her music attending one of her concerts.

    AMAZING TALENT!

by BIGLRH on 2013-05-14Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

Judy delivered! Once she warmed up, it was classic Judy Collins. My only regret was that she didn't sing her classic "Someday Soon" and "Both Sides Now" ... which would have brought the house down! Other than that, she performed like someone half her age. Judy is a North American icon ... and someone who defines professionalism and dedication to entertainment and music! I can't wait until she returns ... hopefully soon!

    Judy Collins was Amazing

by Quickbeam on 2013-05-12Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

This was a fantastic show. I had read the reviews before I bought tickets and all were positive. I was still a little skeptical, as I wondered how at her age she could retain her voice. Well, I went to the concert and her voice is still fantastic. This was a great, great show and I would highly recommend it.
