About

The multimedia project Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider.  They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums.  By the mid 1970’s Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic ssoundscapes and their musical experimentation with robotics and other technical innovations.  With their visions of the future, Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century.  Their compositions, using innovative techniques, synthetic voices and computerised rhythms, have had a major international influence across an entire range of music genres: from electro to hip hop, from techno to synthpop.

In their live performances, Kraftwerk – Ralf Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert,  Falk Grieffenhagen – illustrate their belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine.

Starting with the retrospective of their Catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2012, in recent years Kraftwerk have returned full circle back to their origins within the Düsseldorf art scene of the late Sixties. Bringing together music and perfomance art, their 3-D concerts are a true  "Gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art.”  The concert series at the MoMA was - among others - followed by further presentations at Tate Modern Turbine Hall in London, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, the Opera House in Sydney, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.

In 2014 Ralf Hütter and his former partner were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • ROBOTS IN VANCOUVER

I enjoy this show as much as their last performance at the Queen E. The sound was excellent without overpowering the Orpheum and the visuals were stunning. The set list was fairly standard for the tour and while I might have liked a longer section of Autobahn the length of show was just past the 2 hour mark so well worth the price.

  • Back to the future

Late 1970s and early 80s theme (effects, etc) was rather unexpected but I trust was good for that music. I saw KRAFTWERK 41 years ago in Poland. Back then and today the music and lyrics are timeless. Good show!

First time seeing Kraftwerk. Orpheum is a great venue. Show started kinda late. Also hoped at some point near the end that people would stand up. This didn't happen till the very end of the show. Im not used to sitting in my seat for an entire show like this.

  • Amazing!

Absolutely spectacular performance from the Grandfathers of electronic music. The 3D screen was the highest resolution I have ever seen, so much so that I (and others in the crowd) reflexively ducked at points when the images appeared to enter the theatre. 100% worth every penny.

  • Kraftwerk 3D

by Steersy on 2022-07-13Orpheum Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Very unique gig with 3D presentation of multi media running behind the band throughout the show! Very well done and as much as I like the band, it would have been a far less entertaining show without the 3D experience. The sound was excellent and I’m very happy that I finally checked off the bucket wish list to this this massively influential band!
