About

The multimedia project Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider.  They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums.  By the mid 1970’s Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic ssoundscapes and their musical experimentation with robotics and other technical innovations.  With their visions of the future, Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century.  Their compositions, using innovative techniques, synthetic voices and computerised rhythms, have had a major international influence across an entire range of music genres: from electro to hip hop, from techno to synthpop.

In their live performances, Kraftwerk – Ralf Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert,  Falk Grieffenhagen – illustrate their belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine.

Starting with the retrospective of their Catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2012, in recent years Kraftwerk have returned full circle back to their origins within the Düsseldorf art scene of the late Sixties. Bringing together music and perfomance art, their 3-D concerts are a true  "Gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art.”  The concert series at the MoMA was - among others - followed by further presentations at Tate Modern Turbine Hall in London, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, the Opera House in Sydney, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.

In 2014 Ralf Hütter and his former partner were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The line up has always changed but the one thing that stays the same is Karl's foot tapping out the Rhythm! catch them while you can, this wont last forever.

Nothing you have seen or heard in videos prepares you for how amazing Kraftwerk is in concert. The sound and visuals meld together in a way that will make your jaw drop... it was incredible. I have no other words.

  • Kraftwerk - Vancouver - Apr 7/25

by Nikki Mystery on 2025-04-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

My friend & I had seats in centre balcony, really good view & we also had binoculars so that we could see the details of the members. Would sure appreciate it if the Q.E. would renovate their seats tho, super small & cramped especially if you're tall as we are. At any rate, the 4 band members put on a fantastic electronic music & digital light show! All kinds of colours & videos, they even had a mock video of the spaceship landing at the theatre, recognized/remembered a lot of the songs, took lots of pix/vids. 2 hours & no encore - perfect! Loved it, sure glad I saw them as who knows if they would tour again.

  • Amazing concert!

by Maria on 2025-04-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Kraftwerk delivered as expected: legendary sounds and super light show! They performed their most famous songs and Mr Ralf Hutter is looking good! Nice touch with Space lab ship ‘landing’ at Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The only downside of all was the theatre itself: ran down, dirty chairs, filthy floor, smell and sadly many uneducated people.

Tant musicalement que visuellement, ce spectacles était divin, un des meilleurs que j'ai vus. On fermait parfois les yeux pour partir en transe et on les rouvrait pour se retrouver dans un monde absolument féerique, fantastique! BRAVO!
