About

The multimedia project Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider.  They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums.  By the mid 1970’s Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic ssoundscapes and their musical experimentation with robotics and other technical innovations.  With their visions of the future, Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century.  Their compositions, using innovative techniques, synthetic voices and computerised rhythms, have had a major international influence across an entire range of music genres: from electro to hip hop, from techno to synthpop.

In their live performances, Kraftwerk – Ralf Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert,  Falk Grieffenhagen – illustrate their belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine.

Starting with the retrospective of their Catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2012, in recent years Kraftwerk have returned full circle back to their origins within the Düsseldorf art scene of the late Sixties. Bringing together music and perfomance art, their 3-D concerts are a true  "Gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art.”  The concert series at the MoMA was - among others - followed by further presentations at Tate Modern Turbine Hall in London, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, the Opera House in Sydney, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.

In 2014 Ralf Hütter and his former partner were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Great concert

by JavierGongora on 2022-07-13Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The concert was great, Kraftwerk did a great performance. The only concern was that the concert started with a delay of 30 minutes, but I still rate my experience with 5 stars, the wait was worth it.

    Riveting!

    by S. W. on 2022-07-13

Some would argue that we would not have electronic music, if it were not for Kraftwerk. I agree with that sentiment. No Kraftwerk? If there were no Kraftwerk then we would have no industrial, no trap, no jungle, no hiphop, no drum & bass, no house music - nothing would be the same! Like John Cage, Little Richard, David Bowie, and The Beatles, our world of music & modern sound is what it is because of Kraftwerk. I highly recommend that you see Kraftwerk live.

Kraftwerk Live in 3D was, by far, one of THE BEST CONCERTS I’ve ever had the pleasure & privilege of witnessing. In the lineage of musical artists such as John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kraftwerk are trailblazers for mostly all forms of modern music. Incredible concert and venue

by Postmandougie on 2022-07-13Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

About the venue: The Orphium is a 1930s movie house that was restored into a concert venue. It's very baroque in styling. Seating is not the most comfortable, but staggered well enough for excellent sight lines. Acoustics are excellent! The Concert: A two hour multimedia 3D show. Total songs 23. The 3D effects were incredible! Sound was excellent, but Ralf's voice was noticably cracking in places, probably because it was the last stop on the tour. 9/10.

All I can say was wow! This concert was one of the best ones I've ever seen! The 3D visuals were breathtaking and it was an impressive showcase of some of their best work from the robots to computer love. My favorites were The Robots, The model, Numbers, Computer Love, Tour de France and Airwaves. I hope they come back to Canada again in the next few years!

Unbelievable sound work and Visual display for their performance. Very glad and fortunate to have finally see them live. Have been a follower since the early days around 40 years ago. Also not the oldest person there for a change. Go see them while they are still around.

    Truly an amazing experience

by Daveeeeeeeeeeeeee on 2015-09-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

This was my first kraftwerk experience and it was something I'll never forget. I have seen a lot of other electronic artists but never seen the music being created live on stage. I have so much more respect for the pioneers of this genre now. I hope to have the chance to see them again!

    One off the bucket list

by tallsamoan on 2015-09-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Kraftwerk is arguably the most influential band of all time (yes, even ahead of the Beatles!), so this was a no brainer. I was afraid the show would be boring with 4 stiffs on stage not moving an inch for 2 hours, but the 3D Video show was awesome. Highly interesting, short while and fun. It didn't matter if 80% of the music was pre-recorded, but they had a few extended gems on hand. a 15 minute rendition of Autobahn, real robots on stage for "Die Roboter" and so forth. The sound at the Jube was also very good. A hint for all: Be on time: The show started at the advertised time sharp!
