Awesome concert! Great sound and tunes. Did miss the big screen though. Both bands would have been great in a cabaret as the music made me want to dance.

Lynryd Skynyrd is back on top
by jjcacha on 2011-07-11Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5I never thought I would enjoy any show as much as this one. The energy in the arena was electric and non stop. This band deliverd a solid performance and I hope to see them again. The only regret is that it ended.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
by wheeetking on 2011-07-11Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 3 out of 5Big time skynyrd fan. I was disaapointed. I drove with my daughter from Regina for 2.5 hours and they only played for 70 minutes. Then I heard they played for 90 mins in Winnipeg, which is the standard time for a Rock Show. The Band could have fullfilled their obligation. At this rate, I will never come back to Saskatoon for a concert and would not go see this Band even though I love their music. T Too much expense for a 70 minute headliner show. That's a bar set. Craig Zborowski
Awesome!

Loved Lynyrd Skynyrd
by MelJeff on 2011-07-11Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 4 out of 5I really enjoyed their performance! the crowd was great, lots of awesome styles. Great atmosphere and energy from the band. I was very satisfied. The olny 2 things that would have made it better, longer show, more encores. And I wish they played Tuesdays Gone. But so happy to have heard Free Bird Live.
Skynyrd's Sound system sucked.
by TheDoctor5 on 2011-07-11Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 3 out of 5Every other concert in this venue has speakers pointing to the side, so that people on the side near the front can get the full sound experience as well. This was not the case with Lynyrd Skynyrd. The whole system faces forward, so the sound pretty much sucked on the side.
Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2011 = Amazing!
by thr1ll on 2011-07-11Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5It was such an amazing concert thanks to Johnny Van Zant and Gary Rossington. They played Sweet Home Alabama, Freebird, Simple Man and so many other songs that have been great for years!

Lynyrd Skynyrd
by nobuddy on 2011-07-11Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 3 out of 5Unless our city was the only Canadian stop, the band should've learned the name of the city they were in and acknowledge that, instead of constantly shouting out 'Hey Canada'! Great to see the band and that they're keeping the spirit of the originals alive. Sound at Credit Union Centre was distorted though.
Lynyrd Skynyrd heat up Winnipeg's MTS Centre
by tarryrob on 2011-07-11MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5Lynyrd Skynyrd played to a relatively small, but exuberant crowd at the MTS Centre Sunday night (7/10/21). The veteran Florida rockers hit the stage promptly at 8:45 pm to a standing ovation (fans on the floor remained standing for the duration), and served up an evening of hard driving southern rock. The band, led by founding member Gary Rossington, whose signature lead riffs and rhythms still power the band, had the misfortune of competing with closing day at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, but enough of the faithful came to party, and Skynyrd did not disappoint, kicking the night off with their 1974 Second Helping classic track “Workin' For MCA.” Comparing the 2011 version of Skynyrd to the vintage ’77 line-up (only Rossington remains) is a bit of an exercise in futility. Are they the same – of course not! The babyboomer fans, who primarily made up the audience, have changed as well. But the current line up retains much of the spirit, the sound, the chops and the tradition that made Lynyrd Skynyrd one of the premiere American rock bands of the late 70’s. Formidably fronted by original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant’s younger brother Johnny, the band continued with the tried and true on their 2nd number, pumping out the opening track from the their 1973 debut album pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd - “I Ain’t the One.” The band is currently touring in support of their 11th studio album, 2009’s God & Guns and they next gave folks a taste of the new material, peeling off the anthemic “Skynyrd Nation,” which was well received and blended in nicely with the vintage songs. But Skynyrd was savvy enough to know that their fans came for the classics, and returned to their back catalogue, punching out the opening track from 1977’s Street Survivor - “What's Your Name,” followed by “Down South Junkin'” and a 2nd “”Survivor” classic “That Smell.” Skynyrd’s signature 3-guitar sound remains intact with ex- Blackfoot showman guitarist Rickey Medlock and Mark "Sparky" Matejka both effectively trading licks with Rossington. Their sound was rounded out by Peter Keys on piano along with the solid rhythm section of drummer Michael Cartellone and bassist Robert Kearns. Van Zant kept the crowd at fever pitch, goading them to stand, clap and sing along as and shrewdly played the Canadian patriot card, spouting lines like “Gimme a C for Canada” following “T for Texas” and tying the Candian Maple Leaf flag overtop the “Stars and Bars” towards the end of the show – which the crowd loved. Heading into the home stretch, Skynyrd offered a 1-2-3 punch of “Gimme 3 Steps” from their debut album, followed by Second Helping tracks “Call Me the Breeze” and finished the set with their classic rock smash “Sweet Home Alabama.” The song, with its controversial lyrics, “I heard Mr Young sing about her….well I heard ole Neil put her down…I hope Neil Young will remember….southern man don’t need him around anyhow,”which chastise Winnipeg hometown music legend Neil Young for his finger pointing song “Southern Man,” might have ruffled a few Winnipeger’s feathers. But Van Zant quickly smoothed things over pronouncing to all and sundry afterwards, “By the way…..we LOVE Neil Young!” Receiving a well deserved encore, the band returned, with Johnny Van Zant paying tribute to his older brother, “As my brother Ronnie used to say ‘What song is it you want to hear tonight?’ The line is from Lynyrd Skynyrd’s superb 1976 live album "One More From The Road," and the song for which fans screamed - the band’s signature finale - “Free Bird.” The band churned out a fierce 13+ minute renedition of the rock anthem, which had everyone on their feet pumping the air to the sizzling extended guitar solos, bringing fans and band to a boil before sending everyone happily on their way – home sweet home. Canadian veteran classic rocker Jerry Doucette did a fine job warming up the crowd and had everyone on their feet by the time he wrapped with his signature 1978 hit, “Mama Let Him Play.”
AWESOME!!!!
by Gorkyo on 2011-07-10Credit Union Centre - SaskatoonRating: 5 out of 5WHAT A CONCERT! This band has been through so, so much in their long carreer.....And despite the fact that only one original member remains (the Great Gary Rossington), they have managed to bottle up that Skynyrd sound and reproduce it flawlessly...Sound quality was superb, and those 3-guitar attacks were unbelievably crisp. The 2 other guitarists are equally good, esp Ricky Medlocke who struts the stage like an avid teenager. Keyboardis Keys is also a wonderful fill-in for the late Billy Powell...honky tonk piano like no other. Need I say more? Seriously-- if you want to see Skynyrd while they're still a band, A GREAT BAND, go NOW and catch the best rock act I've seen live in 25 years as a Southern Rock fan. Cheers! P
