Marianas Trench in Concert
Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.
Marianas Trench Background
Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.
Favourite concert of all time, every time. I just wish they would go back to performing shake tramp, my soul needs to jump around in the way you only can to that song!
It was a great show but I wish there were more signs to show how to get ahold of security. There were a few fights and couldn’t get ahold of them. Great show overall but the logistics seemed to be lacking
I’ve been a Mariana’s Trench fan since I first saw them at Rock the Block in Brandon back in 2009, and I haven’t missed a chance to see them live since. Every show is terrific, and their performance at the Burt Block Party was no exception. The energy, the vocals, the connection with the crowd—it’s always on another level. No matter how many times I see them, they never disappoint.
Everyone in the crowd knew their songs. When Fallout came on you could barely hear Josh over all the fans. It was incredible to relive the 2010s for a little bit there. Honestly wished I could see them again the next day.
Everything ran very smoothly. It was a wonderful evening.
I’ve been wanting to see Mariannas Trench since the last time they were in Fort McMurray, AB. It was so much fun and I loved all the songs and I knew all their song lyrics. I have loved listening to Marianna’s Trench since the first song I ever heard. I would definitely recommend them and when I get the chance, I would go to their concert again.
Performance was great especially when he went into the pit with everyone! The vocals on this guy are just ridiculous and need to be experienced in person! Would 100% go to see them again! ❤️ Only negative was the merchandise apparently they sent lots of XXL but not a lot of medium/large so I wasn’t able to get the sweatshirt I wanted 🙁
Literally the best concert ever 🗿 LONG LIVE IAN MY KINGGGG
Mariana’s trench was excellent and I would definitely see them again. I think the OLG stage is great for its convenience to amenities and attractions, but not my favourite place to see a concert. The vibe is low energy.
Marianas Trench did a great job, good music, great show. The OLG stage had a lot of issues, bad signage of where to properly get in, we had no idea where merch was until the end because the initial entrance pushes you right by it (add a big sign on any of the blank white walls), no notice of when drink and food stands close, and worst of all the sound from mics would just cut out sporadically throughout the show and the instrumentals volume would go up and down throughout. I'll travel farther to see a show rather than go here again.
