About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

This show was freaking amazing! So much much energy, so much passion... All three bands performed phenomenally. I'd go again if I could!

  • Never go to an amazing concert when you sick

by Tpizzle on 2012-10-15Copps Coliseum - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Easily one of the best concerts ive ever been too. Very entertaining and well presented. I love how they made a story using the title names and how they stripped on stage while singing desperate measures. Lost my voice fron screaming so much but it was way worth it.

  • Marianas Trench was incredible!

by Musscle on 2012-10-15Copps Coliseum - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Marianas Trench put on an incredible show Saturday night! I laughed, I cried, I danced, I cheered, I sang along with every song! I've been to a lot of concerts over the last couple of decades and this was The Best. Josh, Mike, Ian and Matt are incredibly talented and my only disappointment is that I'll have to wait quite a while before I can go to another live MT show. I could have danced and sang along for another hour, easily. There were a few technical gaffs, but they never let it stop them, they just went with it and made it work. Incredible vocals/sound on the whole, wonderful entertainment quality, dynamic relationship with the audience and just an amazing time! Down With Webster also put on a great set! Lots of energy there! I also have to say that the overall attitude of my fellow concert-goers was lovely! Everyone was in a great mood, patient and kind! Almost 3 decades of live-show-attendance and I can honestly say that is not nearly always the case with fellow music fans!

I really enjoyed performanced by Mariana's Trench and Down with Webster and would recommend to anyone. On the other hand Jesse Giddings' performance I would not recommend. The vocals and sound were both extremely poor that you could not hear him singing at all and as a result not an enjoyable performance.

My daughter and I saw them on Canada Day - it was a good show. This one was much better, being a real tour show. Stage, sound , lights, and the SHOW were great.

All acts were amazing. As my first concert, I was in awe at what happened. It was absolutely phenomenal. I wish they'd come back to Hamilton so I can get another ticket and see it all over again.

  • Marianas Trench/opening acts are superb gentleman

It was my first time seeing any of these performers, but I only went to accompany my 13 year old daughter and 3 of her friends with another mom. I was impressed with their stage show and I know the girls had a fantastic time. They were on the floor but us moms got to sit comfortably in the stands. After the show was over the girls wanted to go where the busses were parked but of course I was positive they would never come right out and say hello, if we were lucky maybe a wave, but we waited, in the cold, rainy night air. After an hour and a half we were ready to leave but out came Jesse and 2 of the guys from Down with Webster. After another 15 minutes Josh Ramsey actually came out and met with every single fan waiting, took time out of his day to meet them all, take pics with everyone of them and sign posters. I was totally impressed by this and would love to thank him for what he does for his fans.

Tix was a surprise for my daughter, had a amazing time, those boys know how to put on a show, both DWW and MT. Josh Ramsay is so talented, and quite the showman. Would definitely see these bands again!

DWW and Marianas Trench put on great shows! Jesse Giddings left a lot to be desired ... Should be opening for a boy band like nkotb.

  • Marianas Trench - Awesome!!!

by LMcMT on 2012-10-14Barrie Molson Centre - BarrieRating: 5 out of 5

The show was terrific, even with a few technical difficulties at the begining, it didn't take away from the show. Josh actually joked with the audience about it.. and considering that this was the first show of the tour it is understandable that there may be some glitches. The sound was great for Marianas Trench, a little muffled for Down with Webster, at least where we were sitting. The drummer from Down with Webster had a spectacular solo during their set which we are still talking about days later. The show Marianas Trench put on had me dancing, laughing, singing along. The large video screen at the back of the stage lent to the theatical feel with its story images, taking us on a journey though the Ever After Album, with some detours into their past. I really didn't want the night to end.
