About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

The night started off with the AWESOME group Anami Vice! They were great! I had never heard of them and am very glad we didnt skip out on the opening act. They were fun and very energetic and got the crowd pumped up for Marianas Trench. Next came Down with Webster. I am not really a big fan of them but my oldest daughter fell in love with them and she didnt even want to come to the concert. Marianas Trench was by far the BEST concert I have ever been to.The entrance that Josh made was spectacular! The outfits, videos... awesome! The only time I was not liking the concert is when someone punched Josh in the face when he was singing in the audience! All in all Myself and my daughters 16 & 15 had a great time! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!

  • AMAZING!!

by curiouscrys on 2012-10-23MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

The opening bands were awesome, didn't know anami vice but I liked some of the lyrics, over all anami vice was good, DWW was great! And Marianas Trench was amazing!!! Ramsey interacted with the croud, ran throug it. I think if he had his way he would want to meet everyone of us. I really feared for his safety as the girls flocked and he couldn't move... Been to 3 of their concerts, next time I'm getting backstage passes!

Overall the concert was amazing. Except for the fact that during the last song, Josh's mic was not turned on therefore we couldn't hear him. Security were rather rude

The event was too short due to Marianna's trench set list because they did not play all the songs they could of played at this tour.

  • Excellent Show Great Night

    by DRW1 on 2012-10-16Copps Coliseum - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

I was pleasantly surprised with Marianas Trench. I knew I would know all their songs and enjoy the show but I was blown away by the showmanship and the true entertainment value of this band. They were great crowd pleasers, really interacting with the audience and especially when Josh ran into the audience and crowd surfed. I always thought that Josh had a good voice but did not realize the extent of his talent until I experienced it live. He has the real appeal doing the rock numbers but also singing the tender ballads. His wardrobe changes and his stage antics reminded me of a younger Steve Tyler. I love the video throughout the concert and the concept of the "Every After" CD telling a complete story is reminiscent of Queens rock operas and Meatloaf 's "Bat out of Hell" Excellent show I would definitely see them again.
