About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

  • Heck yeah!

by Macnmatt on 2023-03-27River Cree Resort & Casino - EnochRating: 5 out of 5

Long time fan of marianas trench. 10/10. No criticisms. And the venue was awesome for it. Only slight issue was the sound thing. All the talking was like, messy and muffled and hard to understand. I love hearing Josh's stories at his concerts, so i was super bummed i couldn't understand him talking 😂

  • Injured and still put on a show

by . on 2023-03-07Grey Eagle Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Josh Ramsay’s guitar drew blood between the first and second song, and he barely missed a beat. The venue is awesome (minus the traffic driving in) and Marianas Trench crushed the show as always.

  • Parking was full but that's to be expected

by Lisa on 2023-03-02Grey Eagle Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was good it took a bit for the laed singers voice to warmnup my daughter was a huge fan she was more critical then I was, i was a little disappointed that marianas trench didn't have enough merch by the time i found where they were selling it they only had tee shirts left, but thats in the band not the venue, you think the main band would be in the main lobby and the opening act would be at the main door area not way off at the end of the building the seats were easy to find and i enjoyed myself

  • Great adlib recovery

by Sarah on 2023-03-01Grey Eagle Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Josh’s headset was not working at first, he sang through the first song not as stellar as his voice usually is. He then had a controller switch and had the audience sing along. Finally controller number 3 worked and the audio was back to stellar. Loved the audience interaction and smaller venue. Did not love the cigarette smell permeating from the casino entrance.

  • Freaking amazing concert. Hated the seating thing.

by Az on 2023-02-28Grey Eagle Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

MARIANS TRENCH is absolutely incredible. The band puts on an incredible show and I would go 100 more times to see the same show. I was a little upset that it was only seating that was available and no standing room. When we arrived someone was in our seat and it took 3 ushers and then the box office manager to sort out the situation just to be able to get our seats back. The beginning of the show we went from being seated in someone else’s seats (because the person refused to show their ticket) to moving because they arrived to being told we might have to stand the whole time, to having to make a small scene just yo get into our seats. We may have arrived 10 minutes after the opener started but we bought the tickets when they launched so. Besides that venue complaint about seating. It was AMAZING :)

  • Venue did the band no justice

by Ry on 2023-02-28Grey Eagle Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

Have seen MT several times, most recent prior being the jubilee. That was an amazing show. The sound at this event was terrible. I couldn't hear much of the lyrics, my partner isn't a huge fan but joined me and he couldn't hear much that made it a decent show. These guys are so talented and it was hard to enjoy the show. I enjoyed it merely because it was them. This show disappointed in every way but the band. 😔

Amazing show from an amazing band! Funny on stage banter, amazing vocals and Josh Ramsay even played with an injury he got during the first song.... I will see them any time they come to Calgary!

I saw them at ambleside music festival on the third day, I got tickets for all three days and I’ve only heard Two songs from them before, and I paid for the three day ticket because I wanted to see other bands on the first and second day so I decided to go and it was so fun I would definitely go again.

  • Always gives an amazing performance

Saw them back in 2019 in Edmonton for the suspending gravity tour VIP and they were so sweet and the show was amazing and Josh's vocals were lit as always! I can't wait for them to come back

  • SO GOOD!

    by S. L. on 2022-04-15Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

It was pouring rain, muddy, cold....And I enjoyed every minute of this show! They did such an amazing job making us forget the miserable weather and enjoy rocking out together. I love how energetic the band was and how they engaged the audience. They played a wonderful mix of their newest songs to their earlier songs. I will 100% go see them again rain or shine, pandemic or apocalypse!
