About

Daughter of a music professor; trained classically in her home country of Russia, Regina's passion for music was clear from childhood.  Once she completed her studies she moved to the Bronx, New York and her life has never been the same. Influenced by her Russian and Jewish roots, as well her new love for the city Regina's songwriting took off. It was in the underground music scene of the East Village where she found fame. Still, her music is always evolving, channeling  influences like Chopin, Janis Joplin, to experimenting with unusual instruments and vocal styles, Regina never ceases to surprise.

After a number of self-funded and distributed albums, she finally got her first proper release in 2004 when Warner Brothers re-released her 2003 self-released album Soviet Kitsch. She released the highly anticipated follow-up album, Begin To Hope, in 2006. The single from the album, "Fidelity", was a big hit and helped the album peak at number 20 in the US Billboard chart. Her fifth full album, Titled Far, was a smash hit, it entered the US charts at number three and raised Regina's profile worldwide. In 2010 she performed at President Obama's reception at the White House. Her latest album, titled What We Saw from the Cheap Seats also entered the US album chart at number three.

Regina first toured nationally with The Strokes and this was quickly followed by a tour supporting The Kings of Leon. A series of headline theater shows followed the release of the album Far and in recent years she has made frequent appearances during the European Summer Festival season. Away from music, Regina does a great deal of work for human rights charities and has raised money for Doctors Without Borders helping earthquake victims.

    Incredible One Woman Show!

    by jdiggitydog1 on 2023-03-05Massey Hall - Toronto

Very very few artists would be able to entertain a crowd for 90 minutes all by themselves, but Regina manages! She’s talented, hilarious, and a joy to watch. I went to this show a Regina fan, and I left a superfan! Would recommend even if you’re not totally familiar with her work. Truly an incredible show.

    Kinda' lame

by noidea on 2023-03-05Massey Hall - Toronto

She has some beautiful songs but the live experience wasn't really worth my time or money. While she's brilliant at playing and singing, she doesn't play hits and the experience is more about her quirkiness and spontaneity. This is not what I paid for but maybe that is what others enjoy.

Totally captivating, mesmerizing show. Amazing how she held the audience in the palm of her hands with no frivilous small talk etc. The music as always top class. Small but superb backup band. Accomplished piano player with a great set of pipes. Highly recommended.....

Amazing show. Great sound, felt intimate... Although the balcony is quite far away from the stage.

    Unforgettable Regina Spektor!

by Dancingbright on 2012-10-15Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

You know you have just witnessed magic when an artist sounds better live than in a recording. Regina Spektor is incredibly talented. I can't sing her praises enough and seeing her live was a dream. Her voice never faltered and her piano playing is majestic.

What can I say? If you like Regina Spektor, then you have to see her live. Her voice is just as amazing in person, and she is a total joy to watch.

    Regina Spektor

by Olderguy on 2012-10-15Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I loved the concert, the part I saw of it anyway. When a concert is scheduled to start at 8 and the main act doesn't come on till 9:30 I get frustrated and angry. This is not the first time I have had to leave a concert early because of a late start for the main act and needing to work in the morning. Should I get used to it or should concerts be true to their word about start time? There was way too long an interval between the opening act and Regina's appearance on stage.

    One of the best!

by SuzanneE46 on 2012-10-14Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I am new to Regina Spektor's music and bought tickets to the concert on the basis of having heard Samson and having seen the All the Rowboats video. To say I was not disappointed would be an understatement. Her musicality, her sense of playfulness, her incredible talent all won me over very early on. It's not very often that I've attended a concert where every song is as good as or better than the one before. It was that good. Awesome!

    Regina Spektor was only OK

by HughP on 2012-10-14Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Regina Spektor and her handlers need to sharpen their live concert etiquette. For some unknown reason, there was a 25 minute gap between the opening act and Regina's appearance onstage. This cannot be excused by the need to set up the stage, as there was very little done between acts - the audience were simply invonvenienced. Symphony Orchestras and Opera Companies seem to be able to set up and start on time despite having to coordinate dozens of performers - why can't a single performer with a piano and three backup musicians start on time? The performance itself was okay, although she twice forgot the words and had to re-start a number. Also, Regina's onstage presence is nearly non-existent. In summary, I would have been better off staying home and buying her CDs.

Great live, though the crowd was a little rowdy and the design of the hall allowed the random shouts to be heard quite easily.

An unusual performer for open minded people

by asudz on 2012-10-13Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Regina Spektor is one of those unique half art-half musician sort of people. You either like them, or you don't. I'd kinda put her at a cross between sarah mcLaughlin and Fiest and Bjork She's got amazing vocal control, can hop around an octave or two from one not to the next and hits it every time. Some of her songs are very very sincere and emotional, and others have little "events" in them that in my opinion can detract from the song. Like a quick little squeak at a higher octave, Or Gasping between words like someone is strangling her. Its a bit off putting, but on the whole, Regina Spektor is a very talented ARTIST, Her canvas is music.
