About

Daughter of a music professor; trained classically in her home country of Russia, Regina's passion for music was clear from childhood.  Once she completed her studies she moved to the Bronx, New York and her life has never been the same. Influenced by her Russian and Jewish roots, as well her new love for the city Regina's songwriting took off. It was in the underground music scene of the East Village where she found fame. Still, her music is always evolving, channeling  influences like Chopin, Janis Joplin, to experimenting with unusual instruments and vocal styles, Regina never ceases to surprise.

After a number of self-funded and distributed albums, she finally got her first proper release in 2004 when Warner Brothers re-released her 2003 self-released album Soviet Kitsch. She released the highly anticipated follow-up album, Begin To Hope, in 2006. The single from the album, "Fidelity", was a big hit and helped the album peak at number 20 in the US Billboard chart. Her fifth full album, Titled Far, was a smash hit, it entered the US charts at number three and raised Regina's profile worldwide. In 2010 she performed at President Obama's reception at the White House. Her latest album, titled What We Saw from the Cheap Seats also entered the US album chart at number three.

Regina first toured nationally with The Strokes and this was quickly followed by a tour supporting The Kings of Leon. A series of headline theater shows followed the release of the album Far and in recent years she has made frequent appearances during the European Summer Festival season. Away from music, Regina does a great deal of work for human rights charities and has raised money for Doctors Without Borders helping earthquake victims.

    Regina was amazing!

by RachaelMC on 2012-10-13Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Amazing performance from beginning to end. The opening from Only Son stretched a bit long, but his songs were nice and his duet with Regina was splendid. Enjoyed hearing her sing in Russian. She had an adorable stage presence and even her mistakes were met with good humour. She is the type of singer who sounds even better live, which is rare and beautiful, and her songs are varied and fantastic. Lighting and sound were perfect without being overwhelming - they let the music speak for itself, which was what this style needs. Even if she had done nothing else, the encore made the show, with "Us", "Fidelity", "Hotel Song" and "Samson" sounding even better than the recordings. Come back to Toronto, Regina, I will gladly buy tickets again!

    Mediocre Show

by MSouk on 2012-10-13Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I was bit disappointed. I love Regina's music, but she only seemed half into it. A couple of amateurish flubs, and not the spark I expected to see.

    Regina was great... but...

by BenW on 2009-11-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

My first time seeing Regina Spektor live. It was a pretty great concert, not quite what I expected though. There seemed to be a bit of trouble with the mic levels and volume the first couple songs. Regina herself was amazing, but I had issue with the accompanying drums. First, they were just too loud and distracted from Regina's singing and piano. And second, they're just unnecessary. If I'm going to see Regina Spektor I want to hear her voice and piano playing, everything else just gets in the way. I was hoping she'd take more breaks between songs to talk to the audience and do a bit of storytelling, which she did a little bit, but I guess that wasn't as possible with the show being at a fairly large venue.

    Regina Spektor = amazing!

by sleepygiraffe on 2009-11-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Immediately after seeing her it was like, "When is she coming back? Can we get tickets now? Pre-order?" She's absolutely wonderful. I sincerely recommend her to anyone and everyone. She sounds even better live than she does on her cds, if such a thing is possible.

Regina Spektor is a gift to the music world.

    by Cait11 on 2009-11-06Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Regina Spektor is bar none the most talented individual that I have ever seen in concert, and most definitely one of the most talented musicians that I can think of. I love all of her albums, but was completely blown away when her voice sounded even more amazing in person! She has great stage presence, even though she seemed a bit shy when talking to the audience, when she began singing you could tell that she was in her element. Her encore was superb, and 5 songs long! I would go see Regina Spektor again in a heartbeat. Also, I was impressed by the opener Jupiter One, and they hung around in the lobby afterward, which was neat. My only annoyance is that they said "No pictures or videos", which made taking pictures of one of my all time favourite musicians a challenge.

    Reggie Spektor

by iLovedherfirst on 2009-11-05Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

At first, I was a bit in shock because of how much I love Regina, and for how long I've loved her. Being a diehard fan, I felt as though "I loved [her] first," and the most. Don't we all feel that way? Anways, the concert itself was most definately beautiful. The drummer, who was very talented I might add, overpowered Regina's voice, and the rest of the band for most of the songs and the beat he played was very similar in each song. Finally, in "Us" he used the perfect drum beat, loud like it should be! All my love was restored for him then. I wish it were a little more intimate, maybe just her and an instrument for a lot longer than we had. The violinist was my soulmate, so I loved everything about him. Theatre was absolutely stunning, though people yelled rude things, that's somewhat expected at concerts. All in all, I am so grateful I saw Regina's jaw droppingly beautiful face in real life, and I heard her voice and saw her. This is where I squeel in a highpitched sort of way.

    Regina Spektor is golden!

by Dyell on 2009-11-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Regina Spektor's voice is like diamonds. Although she didn't interact with the audience much I enjoyed listening to her sing with and without her band. She did a very good job mixing her old tracks with new ones, upbeat to slow, and a capella to with her band. We couldn't see her because the piano was in the way but the ushers allowed us to stand at the side of the theatre.

    Regina's my hero

by Lexinator on 2009-11-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Regina Spektor was very creative and so talented! She definately impressed me with her singing range and jazzy voice. I was amazed as i watched her sing, play the piano with one hand and keep a beat on a wooden chair with a drum stick in the other hand! Phenominal!

Regina Spektor is one of the best live shows I have ever seen. She sounds absolutely stunning and her sets showcase a variety of her past and present songs and musical ability.

    Regina Spektor at the Orpheum

by adelaro on 2009-11-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Regina's voice was uplifting, playful, and such a pleasure to listen to. The actual performance was not the most exciting, and deviated little from the recordings. She didn't speak much between sets or interact with the audience. She really shined when playing solo and accompanying her singing with just the piano -- music was divine :-) Could have done without the drums most of the time. Disclaimer: I was sitting in the lower balcony, way up there and the sound was not very clear most of the time.

Musically, she was brilliant, but she doesn't sparkle on stage. In fact, she has the personality of cardboard. Like I said, the music was fantastic, but you could save yourself the money and simply pop in one of her CDs. She didn't really experiment with the music in the live show, so the songs sound the same as they do on the CD. Jupiter One were fantastic though! I bought their CD.

Regina Spektor is an amazingly talented and refreshingly interesting performer. Her live performance is nothing short of mesmerizing. This particular concert was wonderful as the audience truly understood the beauty of Regina's performance by giving her a silent but attentive audience during each performance(song), and an enthusiastically appreciative applause during the each intermission.

    Regina Spektor is still amazing

by jaacson on 2009-11-03Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Hilarious, exuberant, reserved and talented is Regina Spektor. Interacting with the audience, even pausing momentarily to say "bless you" to a man sitting next to me, and just playing great music, she is a flawless performer who actually sounds better live then on CD. A must see performer! Jupiter One, the opening band, was a perfect warm up and would even make an excellent band to see on their own.

    Absolutely Amazing

by foldingchair on 2009-11-03Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

She was so great. Listening to her sing was just as great if not better than listening to her cds. She sounds amazing live, and she had a really good concert set. The only thing that made me sad was that she didnt communicate with the audience very much (when she did it was really cute and funny), but what she did do is cut out all the extra stuff and play a lot of songs, fitting in as many songs as she could in the time she had. I will definately see her again live! One of the best concerts ever.

    She was Awesome!

by PShorty on 2009-11-03Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Regina's voice and funky lyrics we're awesome. Just wish we could have seen her better; half of the Orpheum (right side) was blocked by her grand piano and couldn't see her face for most of the show.
