eeze lost 'iz voice ee 'az

by shawnigin007 on 2011-11-04Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - Vancouver

I was somewhat disappointed in this show. Now,I'm a HUGE Who fan, I have seen them 4 times before dating back to '82. Last saw them in the Quadraphonia tour in'96. THAT was an excellent show, with great seats and all. Even though I had great seatsfor this show ,I just didnt connect with it. Unfortunately for me,because Daltery just couldnt get there with his voice ,though even I have to admit , he still has the power . Too bad that Pete wasnt there, he was definately missed as part of this show, such an important part, though so were the other two(Entwistle and Moon)The other band members,Simon and Imes, did play very well . They are big shoes for him to fill . Rogers outburst against the chowderhead smokers in the front row dampened the mood. Too bad too for Roger, since the smoking /throat problem was well publsized.Just takes a couple of morons to interupt the show. The old songs at the end were a welcome. Behind Blue eyes is argueably thier best song of all .Roger was able to sing those fairly well , obviously choosing songs that kept him in the lower octaves. For me I think it was more of the fact that Roger just couldnt get to the notes that he is so accustomed toand belt out his voice.Though it wasnt the best show I've seen of him(or the Who) , I am still glad I went. The Who are and always will be my favorite Rock Band.

Fantastic! Roger was as amazing as ever! Got our moneys worth ten times over. Wish more people would of came. Simon Townsend's voice was very close to his brothers.

Roger? Take Us On An Amazing Journey!

    by bayoubunny66 on 2011-11-03Rexall Place - Edmonton

There we were all in one place, a generation lost in time, trying to recapture the magic. Roger was there. Pete's brother was there. The magic, thankfully, was still there. The backing vocalists were needed to support Roger's voice in the eary going, when he seemed a bit weak, but by the mid-point he was belting the songs out with strength and a good range. He was obviously having fun and delighted in entertaining us and thanking us for the years of support. Simon Townsend did a superb job of singing most of the non-Tommy roles and played guitar better than Pete did the last time I saw him. The rest of the band were younger, excellent musicians who could re-create the Who sound when needed but also were given the opportunity to take the music in a new direction at times, to a place where The Who don't usually go. The encore of Who, almost Who, and Johhny Cash songs was a bonus and was well done.

    So worthwhile

    by Rockman76 on 2011-11-02Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I might have missed this show, I mean, really, no Pete T.? This is not the Who, not even a "Who's Left" event. But, I wanted to share Tommy with my daughter, and I am glad I did. Rogers's voice was better than it has been in years. The band he assembled was absolutely top shelf - in fact, I feel that both guitarists were better than PT has been over the last few years - and the drumming was great too. Nothing spectacular from the bass player though. Of particular mention was the mood of the band, as they were obviously enjoying themselves, with smiles all around.... Over two hours of excellent performing. Many Who songs we haven't heard live very often...l well worth the price of admission. I'd see this show again if I could.

See Me, Feel Me. 'Tommy' was Fantastic

by Python46 on 2011-11-02Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - Vancouver

It was the most anticipated concert my friends and I waited a long time for. We were not disappointed at all. Roger Daltrey performed The Who's 'Tommy' with a stellar band. Lead Guitarist Frank Simes also was the music director, Rhythm guitar and vocals Simon Townshend, was awesome. He not only sounded like Pete and sang most of Pete's parts for Tommy and sang Going Mobile. His manerisms were a lot like Pete Townshend's, His Older Brother. He even looked a little like Pete. you knew they were brothers. John Button on bass, Loren Gold on keyboards and on drums, Scott Deavours. And of course Rock Legend Roger Daltrey with his awesome vocals, percussion, trademark harmonica and microphone spinning. Great lineup. Roger's voice was really great considering he has had to endure surgery on his throat. Tommy was as I had remembered seeing it performed way back in 1989. They also were in Vancouver at B.C. Place for their 1989 comeback 'Kid's are Alright" Tour. This show tonight at Roger's arena however was so intimate with the Concert Bowl seating. We were in row 5 on the floor which had only 7 rows. The sound and lighting were fantastic. Set two after the 23 tracks from the Rock Opera Tommy were 12 songs from the long setlist that makes up Roger's past solo career and Who classics. There is no doubt my generation, I'm 48, grew up with the Songs- My Generation, Boris the Spider, Who Are you and the Anthem of my generation BABA O'Riley. The audience went crazy when he began the start to BABA. The cool lighting was the best. He also played a Johnny Cash medley of his remembered classics and Folsom Prison Blues and Burning Ring of Fire were two of the songs. He got us, the crowd, to do a duel between men and women with the chorus to Burning Ring of Fire. He said Johnny was one of his admired artists and praised the work he did later in his career. It was a lot of fun. Roger mentioned that he always thinks of Keith Moon and John Entwistle. And when on stage and remembers them on stage with him. He called Simon his brother too. He Introduced him as Simon Townshend-Daltrey. He thanked all of us for coming during these difficult times, talking about the world economy and all that is going on. My Thanks to the wonderful staff at Roger's Arena, Thank-you for the setlist guys. Thanks Roger for such an excellent show. Hope to see you next year with Pete with the talk of a possible Quadrophenia tour. Keep Rockin!

    Great performance; lacklustre crowd

by knallhart on 2011-11-02Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Roger Daltrey and his band (I think it was some permutation of No Plan B) put on a fantastic show, playing all of Tommy, some of his solo work, and most of the Who's fan favourites. I don't believe that the show was well enough promoted -- there were too many empty seats. Also, my enjoyment was somewhat diminished by idiotic hecklers two rows back. The security guard in the section didn't seem to care to shut them up.

Roger Daltrey is an amazing performer still.

by Karen on 2011-11-01Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

My husband and I are both in our early 50's and bought the tickets to take a trip down memory lane. We were both amazed at how much of the Tommy opera we remembered. Roger Daltrey performed it to perfection - no disappointment whatsoever. His band was phenomenal - high energy, precise, exciting - the show had it all. Loved it, loved it.

Show was really great!! Like how Roger interacted with his audience. The only disappointment of the night was the poor attendance.

    Roger Daltrey never stopped.

    by Bugs2 on 2011-11-01Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

These tickets were bought as a birthday gift for my husband who was born in the UK and loves The Who because they play totally different music. He was very pleased with the concert but was disappointed that the turn out was so small. He also stated that this group is not The Who as Roger Daltrey stated himself. The tickets were well worth the cost as Roger and the group performed without any breaks for almost 2 hours. They performed the whole of Tommy. I did feel that there should have been screens around the Saddledome as there have been for other concerts so you get a close up view of the performers on the stage.

    Memory Making Moment!

    by d4trio1 on 2011-11-01Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I had the Pleasure of attending this event with my teenager(17)son...I thought "Tommy".. a little Juvenile for my more mature 45yrs...although I still rock it out from time to time...but it was a perfect coagulation of many eras and musical memories!..The video's they play at these events are a little "bla"..(would prefer old photos leading up to the present)..BUT the performance made it easy to tolerate. Roger shared with us some personal information about his ailing throat problems which touched me and I appreciated his honesty!..He sang Beautifully!.. It is so Dry in Calgary and it was taking its toll on his throat..he was sipping water in between sentences at one point..I felt for him..but he trekked on for 4 more songs! He's concerned about Europe's financial crisis and cares about Humanity..he asked"does anyone sing anymore?"..the whole band are TOP talents and the lead Guitarist was phenomenal! Saw the band in Vancouver in the 80's..actually enjoyed this more!

    Fabulous show!

by Tigs on 2011-11-01Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Roger Daltrey was an amazing performer, and anyone who is a Who fan and didn't go, really missed out! He played Tommy for 1 1/4 hours, and then played Who material for another 1 1/4 hours! His band was great, he still has the stage presence, and it was well worth it.

    Daltrey Kicks it Old School

by Djkeng on 2011-11-01Rogers Arena (formerly General Motors Place) - Vancouver

There's a reason classics are classics. Roger Daltrey and his band are a perfect example of this. The music is everything. They play it with expertise and energy and give the audience a real show.

    Roger Rocks with Tommy

by Kazadum on 2011-11-01Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

This was an amazing show for The Who fans, especially those familiar with "Tommy" Roger Daltrey and his musicians did an great job performing this iconic Rock Opera in it's entirety. As a bonus, the fans got to enjoy some great classic Who numbers. Clearly Roger still enjoys performing them.
