Show was good Food was disgusting

by Suburb Family on 2023-11-10Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

The show was good the animals were great but the food was absolutely disgusting! That food shouldn’t even be fed to the pigs that were there. Not even eatable and you pay through the nose! The concession stands the food court and what food we purchased from vendors was all really bad and really expensive.

    Always support this Nostalgic Event

by JB on 2023-11-10Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

The Royal is a nostalgic experience for me, and never disappoints. The economic times may impact some areas, however, I’m there to support. It takes a lot of time, work and devotion to get an animal there, to show. And I feel the pride of that. Since the 70’s I’ve gone, walked the barns and watched the shows. Bravo to them all. The exhausted happy faces, and beautiful animals to show for it, are what matters. It’s an achievement, every year, to be proud of, together, as a City and beyond. That’s a rarity in todays world.

Such a fun event, next year I will stay in T.O for a few nights so we can see more. One day was not enough.

    Family Horse Show was disappointing[

by Hafta B. Better on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

The main act was an Australian rider (Dan MaKay?). His performance was mediocre at best. For one thing his accent was difficult to understand. And his act consisted or four highly trained horses who just stood in the ring and did basic tricks. Not that exciting. As well, he recited two poems that he had written himself (something about his horses being his religion). Inappropriate content for this audience. Thankfully the remainder of the afternoon featured two horse jumping competitions which were more interesting . But the fact that the the ring had to be completely reconfigured twice seemed like a big waste of our time. Can't this be streamlined somewhat by having similar setups for each of the competitions? Think of the audience that you are trying to entertain.

now an annual on our things to do

by chris on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Second time and we discovered more compared to last year, such as where the horse stands were, explored more in depth the vendors, and enjoyed all the "small"shows. Such a great fair and lots of fun for all the family! Excellent horse shows etc. Next year, we will return and will also try one of the event pubs or restaurants (because the food court is full of these usual vendors, some with really badly executed food... only advise here is to rather eat the good things you bought from the stand vendors, or likely go to this event restaurants-pubs, rather than buying your lower than average hot dog, burger or pad thai at the food court -- none of them there uses good products from farmers or vendors... the events restaurants do.... thus, really no regrets or bad feelings for letting down the small CNE-type food court there).

    Not what it once was

by Lauren on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Been going to the royal for over 20 years - even as a little kid growing up in Ottawa we’d make the trek to Toronto for the big show. It’s every little pony rider’s dream to show at the royal - I make a point to go annually. Post Covid the royal has become smaller than ever in the vendor area, and very few “deals” or “sales” - it must be a sign of the financial times. Admission tickets were steep, at $50 to get into a matinee horseshow that was poorly attended, even on Family Day. Parking was another $20, and food prices were $20 per person and up. Many flea market style vendors, and few equestrian vendors / agricultural vendors compared to past years. Still enjoyed walking through the horse stalls, watching the show, seeing the poultry and cattle shows, and checking out the horse related vendors. Hoping to bring the costs down, and bring back the vendors - otherwise I think this may have been my last “royal” - the Toronto traffic doesn’t help…..

    First time

by Country Gentleman on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Jumping and 6 horse rigs were great. Dressage horses were amazing but the performances were less amazing. Security staff person was a little rude in asking me to return to my seat when I stopped for a quick look at the horses at the rail on my way to the washroom. I will be back next year. Bought some very warm wool lined gloves.

Excellent. Lots of vendors. The horse jumping was really good. The vendors are inside the Enercare building.

    Horse Show

by Keith on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

I enjoyed most of the horse show at the Royal. Sadly the acoustics (from where I sat) made Guy Maclean's commentary very difficult to understand. I'd also welcome more horsemanship and less costume changing. I won't rush back to see his performance.

Entertaining as usual, but poorly organized

by Horse Show Lover on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

We’ve been going to the horse show at the Royal for 20+ years. This year the show itself was terrific, as always. But the process of getting into the arena was so badly run and chaotic that we missed the first three riders, even though we were 15 minutes early to the gate. Most gates were closed, and the one gate that was open was completely unorganized, just a rush of people elbowing each other out of the way. Super-unprofessional, like the organizers had never run a horse show before.

    We had a great time

by Scott on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

My wife, my 13-year old daughter, and myself had a great time at The Royal. We watched the jumping competition in the afternoon and afterwards walked around looking at the animals and vendor booths. A great day.

    An Amazing Annual Event

by Tony on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

We had a fantastic time! We took the Go train to Exhibition station. From there it was an easy 10 minute walk to the Royal. The show jumping was extremely exciting to watch and the shows and exhibits were very educational. The staff, volunteers, vendors etc... were very helpful and friendly. I am already looking forward to returning next year!

    The Royal

by Bonsai on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

The horse show was mostly enjoyable. I did not like the play by play of the junior jumpers. It was distracting and totally unnecessary. 2 in our party of 5 left the arena during this event due to the excessive noise. Loved the traditional horse jumping competition. Also frustrated that we couldn’t print our tickets for entrance. We were a group of 5 arriving at 3 different times, so it was complicated.

Moments of excitement, overall too long

by Wags on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Half the show was interesting/exciting, could have been a tighter presentation (and therefore at least 30-60 minutes shorter). Hard to hear at times what announcers and special guest act were saying, perhaps sound system has its challenges. Parking / vehicle exit situation after the show was completely ridiculous - does the parking vendor or venue not hire a couple police or other attendants to direct traffic? Took almost an hour to get out of lot and more than 4 blocks down the road. Venue parking probably pulled in over $40k in parking that night, not impressed with lack of assistance to move that volume of vehicles after the show.

    RWAF Nwver disappoints

    by Lainey123 on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Visiting the RWAF is a day well spent. The horse show is always what we go to see. Athletes and talent at their finest. Not to mention the gorgeous horses! Just gorgeous! Alas, I could probably stay in the horse stables all day and feel that it was money well spent! But there’s so much more! Cows, goats, sheep, llamas, pigs…..so many animals! So many learning opportunities! So much talent! Food! So many food and restaurant choices! Plus shopping!! What more can you ask for? What a fun, fun day! I will continue to return every year!

    Magical as always

by Anita on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

I have gone to the royal every year since I was a small child and each year walking into exhibition is as magical as the first time. This year was excellent ! Guy McLean was a fantastic show of great character and horsemanship that kept everyone of all ages interested and wanting to see more. The food and shopping vendors had a good variety of interests. The staff at the exhibition all very friendly and knowledgeable with any questions. The only down side this year was a lot of people making too much noise durning horse jumping and there was alot of people walking around too. This is very distracting to the horses and riders and could be dangerous too if a horse is spooked. I think if anything the staff should be reminding the crowd of this and encouraging the crowd to save applause and cheering for the appropriate time.

    ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

by Leelee on 2023-11-08Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Was so great catching up with ol' horse friends. Loved the horse show on Sat Nov 4th evening with the Mad Barn indoor eventing. Those are some crazy jumps!! Guy MacLean, of course was awesome and the Jumping was all very entertaining and spectacular. Wonderful course designing and set up!! Loved my massage from the "Massage Ladies."Can't wait for next year!! The Häagen-Dazs ice cream was a wee bit expensive at $10 though especially when you drop some on the floor!!!

    Great fun!

by Sally on 2023-11-07Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

The Royal is a favourite birthday event for our daughter. The venue, parking and entry are all easy to manage. There are some deals to be found and the vendors are good. The Greenhawk shop was very crowded this year. Almost seemed like too much stock in one place. We all enjoyed the SuperDogs show. We attended the 7pm jumping / eventing and the seats were great despite being in end of the arena sections. I was worried but there was nothing to worry about as we had a great view. My one complaint for the evening event is the price of snacks. $10 for a HaagenDaz bar is ludicrous. Do better on that. That’s what you need to fix!!
