About

Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

  • Phenomenal

by Peejhey on 2024-09-14Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Haven’t heard anything new from Squeeze in years. This was a bit of a nostalgia show so I didn’t expect much. 40 years on they weren’t going to be as great as back in the day. How wrong could I be? The band was tight and energetic. Tilbrook’s voice was great and his guitar playing just amazing. So many great tunes that I didn’t remember until they played them. This show blew me away. Openers The English Beat suffered from sub par sound and some lightning issues that caused a bit of a diva moment for the lead singer where he stopped a song, complained about the lights, gave the finger to the lighting guy and started the song again with his back to the audience. Eventually turning around and trying to make “light” of the situation.

  • 50 years, still going strong

I love 80s music. Sometimes after so many decades, things slip. I mean we are all getting older. This concert was high energy, good mix of old and new- because face it the songs people stand up and dance to are the songs they know and love but the band was also very tight. Musicians hip and showmanship were on display, made for a fun evening.

  • Now an even bigger fan!

  • Squeeze at Massey Hall

by FLETCH on 2024-09-10Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic concert. Support act The Beat were excellent. Sound was great. Atmosphere was awesome. Intimate venue for all. We were sitting in Gallery 307 row C seats 1, 2. Excellent unobstructed view. Seats were a little tight on leg room. My knees were up against the guy in fronts back.

  • Cool For Cats

by TO Gigs on 2024-09-10Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Squeeze took us back to the 80’s. The Band were tight, the vocals great, played many of the hits we wanted to hear. Opener The Beat/English Beat could of been the headliner too. Top Night!! 🇬🇧🎶👏🏼

  • Awesome

Great Show!! Band was tight. They played all the hits and to have an opening act like The English Beat was a bonus. Hats off to Simon the drummer. Nice job!

  • Still making amazing music

  • Worst sound ever!

by rve on 2024-09-10Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I can't believe I'm saying this of Massey Hall, because I didn't think it was possible, but the sound was terrible. For the opening act, English Beat, I literally had no idea what songs they were playing. "Save It for Later"was barely recognizable. The Beat needs to fire their Soundman. They should probably fire their Lighting Director too. Dave Wakeling was so irritated with the spotlight in his eyes, he turned his back to the audience, then moved his microphone into the shadows. For Squeeze, the sound improved, in that I could identify the songs and make out the lyrics. Would have been decent of Squeeze to have done an encore... we've been listening to them for decades, so close your career with some gratitude.

  • Excellent as always

First band I ever saw live, Squeeze opened for Elvis Costello in Toronto in 1981. The band is still amazing - even better now. Great seeing them in the newly renovated Massey Hall.

The English Beat and Squeeze was a total blast. Both brought it and was a great night of entertainment! So glad I attended!
