THE B-52S IN CONCERT:
 
Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
 
Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

    We flew down from Vancouver to see The Human League who were opening for the B-52s. Having been a huge fan of the HL for 30 years we thought it best we make the trip, only to find out a couple of months after we booked it, they added a date in the city I live in, about a 30 min walk from where I live., But anyway, had a nice time in Vegas. The Human Leage were excellent. They sing so well live, really good voices., They sang 2 songs from their new CD, "Credo." Plus some hits from the past 30 years. They are very good live. The venue was excellent. The only negative thing I have to say was the sounds system was a little off. I wonder if they were able to do a sound check. It took a few songs to get the sound system adjusted which I thought was poor for such a wonderful venue.

    While I thought the band (amazing that the 4 principals - Fred, Cindy, Keith and Kate) have been together now for over 30 years...) brought the crowd to their feet with the hits - Roam, Rock Lobster - the band demonstrated great musicianship on all the songs. Too bad that there don't seem to be the media to distribute this type of music today. Seeing them live worked for me ! I picked up their "Best Of" Capsule c.d. Great reminder of their early years and stellar tunes. They knew in 1979 how to get people off their seat and shake it !

    This was a fantastic time, I loved seeing them, they sounded great... BUT - I was very disappointed that they didn't play the one song that I really wanted to hear, it was the main reason for me attending this event. The song they didn't play was "Dance this Mess Around". I would have loved to hear them do that song.

    The band was full of energy and enjoyed themselves in front of an enthusiastic audience. For a group with such a long history, they certainly didn't coast through the performance. What a gas! The venue is not the best, it is basically a warehouse, but was not bad for all that.

    I was thinking about the B52's less than a year ago and when I found out they were coming to Calgary I went on line and bought eight tickets. I had no problem selling the tickets to my friends. The venue was perfect ,not a bad seat in the house. The B52's rocked the night away Thanks B52's for making me young again for one more night.

    I am so glad I went to this concert. It was just awesome. I danced almost the whole night. This is one of my favourite concerts ever and I've attended many.

    Never saw them before live, and they were great! Energy in the audience was high and they sounded wonderful!
