Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.
Loud Rockn roll, funk, blues .beautiful voice. Definitely recommend to see live.
Third time seeing Marcus King and I can’t believe he keeps getting better at this rate. The sound was also amazing at History.
Overall really great sound and musicianship, at times the instruments seem to not be distinguishable, and some of the jam sessions went on a little too long, The new songs he played were very well done clear and defined, can’t wait to see this young musician develop☮️
Marcus put on an awesome display in Toronto. Very good energy by the band. Would love to see him again next year.
I missed Marcus' last visit as it sold out in short order. Glad I got tickets this time. The nearly 2 hr show was excellent and the extended songs really impressed with some fine jamming. The guy staffing the lights kindly give me his copy of the set list after the show. Hannah Wicklund was good opener and hope she comes back to town again as well. I'd definitely go to see the Marcus King Band next time they come to town. The best news was the usual incessant chatters who attend shows at the Commodore seemed to have stayed away, and I could actually hear the band for a change.
Marcus King and his family of talented musicians exceeded my expectations. A non-stop flow of soulful energy and well rehearsed music. Hannah Wicklund was a pleasant surprise. She brought as much energy as the headliner and the encore performance of Baracuda, featuring Hannah on lead vocals was amazing. Can’t say enough good things about the bands and the venue.
The Marcus King concert did not dissapoint us at all! It was an amazing display of talent - by Marcus and each band member. Marcus was truly born to write and play music. We are excited for the new album and look forwards to seeing him in concert again.
Marcus King and his crew blew the roof off! Gotta give a huge shout out to Hannah Wicklund too! Wow!
Marcus King has a versatile voice and guitar styles. A fine backing band who Marcus treats like stage partners rather than backing members; he interacts with his band nicely and they pump out an entertaining set.
Awesome show!! All around! These guys are the real deal! So incredibly talented ...soulful and so much fun!!!!! I will absolutely see MKB again!!!! Thanks guys for the great timw!! Love ya!! 🎼🎸🎶🤠
As soon as the warm up country act came on stage and started playing the was boomy, muddy and overall terrible. Warm up bands are normally there to help the audio tech dial in a mix for the main act. However, when the Marcus King band started playing the sound was worse, extremely loud, so loud that vocals were buried. When Marcus talked between songs I could not understand a word.. The mix never did improve for the entire show. They played for almost 2 1/2 hours at this volume. It ruined what I had hoped to be a great night of great music. If the audio tech was traveling with band, he should be replaced. A 2 1/2 hour show is about an hour too long. There was nothing special at all with the band. Too Bad..
I have been to 12 concerts in the last 10 months from Seattle to Vancouver and this is the one concert that took us to the next level. The stage presents and the unbelievable song to song connection was remarkable. He is a very gifted musician and his vocals are truly heartfelt. He is as humble and truly a fantastic person as reported in so many interviews. If you haven't seen him live, I recommend him to be the best value on the planet.
The Marcus King band is the real deal. The kid can play and his band is tight.
it was such a great night out! the band sounded AMAZING live! v interactive with the crowd! you could tell the band was enjoying playing for their fans! gave each instrument their own lil solos
MKB delivered an amazing show! The musicianship of the entire band truly blew me away... I knew they were good, but damn! Having the crowd sing along with a few songs was great, and Marcus' comments about Toronto and the people really helped to engage the audience. And I can't forget about the opener, Ian Noe. I hadn't heard of him before Wednesday, but I'm going to start listening! Great vocals, driving rhythms, and that guitarist had me riveted. A+ show in an awesome venue! I can't wait to see them again!
You will definitely get your moneys worth, best show I’ve been to.
I’ve been a fan for a few years. - Saw the band open for Chris Stapleton - the set was too short and too early. Unbelievable musicianship, the horns and organ add a rich depth to their sound. I’ll buy a ticket, every time they come to town.
If you love a perfect blend of blues, soul, and rock the Marcus King Band is for you!
