Three Dog Night in Concert

Legendary band, Three Dog Night, now in its fifth decade, claims some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night.

Three Dog Night hits weave through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures -- songs like "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)", "Joy to the World", "Black and White", "Shambala" and "One" serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize Three Dog Night's continuing popularity.

This Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on its legacy alone. Always working to expand its audience, Three Dog Night has embraced and been embraced by 21st century music technology. New and existing fans buy Three Dog Night's music on iTunes as well as at record stores. In fact, releases from this decade alone have sold well over a million copies.

Three Dog Night also pushed boundaries by recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving fans new and old a chance to experience its dynamic performances of the hits as well as several new songs. The project, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and released to coincide with the band's 35th Anniversary, added exciting new orchestral arrangements to Three Dog Night's signature sound.

Three Dog Night maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 70 dates a year. The hit filled concerts are performed for generation-spanning audiences by Danny Hutton (founder/lead vocalist) and Michael Allsup (guitar) with Paul Kingery (bass/vocals), Pat Bautz (drums),) David Morgan (vocals) and Howard Lavarea (keyboards). The band's now-famous name refers to native Australian hunters in the outback who huddled with their dogs for warmth on cold nights; the coldest being a "Three Dog Night".

Boasting chart and sales records that are virtually unmatched in popular music Three Dog Night had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including 3 #1 singles, 11 Top 10's, 18 straight Top 20's, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. The hits appeared on best-selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country). Its records Three Dog Night Page 2 continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of Three Dog Night records have been sold through the years.

Created in 1968 by Danny Hutton Three Dog Night recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) new songwriters of their time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group's eclectic taste, combined with their ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in Three Dog Night dominating the charts for years.

Now, marking 50 years on the road Three Dog Night continues to grow its fan base by keeping up a full schedule of concerts at theaters, performing arts centers, fairs, festivals, corporate events, and casinos. Since 1986, the band has performed over 2,500 shows including two Super Bowls.

  • A 70's Classic

by Manac on 2012-03-14Casino Rama - RamaRating: 3 out of 5

This was the second time I had an opportunity to see this great band. Their music was a great reminder of that time back in the seventies when rock and roll ruled the day. While they did play some of their classic hits it would have been nice to hear more of them. Overall it was a good show. However the sound was less than ideal. The music was great but the vocals were very poor. The mics were too low to clearly hear the words to the songs. I was disappointed that I could not hear them sing clearly. Whoever did the sound check fell short on this one. Hopefully next time they come this will be fixed and I can get to hear the songs the way they were meant to be heard. overall it was a good show. Thanks for the memories guys.

  • Great Show except the sound

by gitarbee on 2012-03-14Casino Rama - RamaRating: 2 out of 5

I was thrilled to see one of my all time favorite bands perform again they were hot and on it! However i took my wife for her Birthday (wanted to find some Celtic music for her however not much available this time of year) and she wasn't a notable fan back then, she did recognize some of their songs though. I was really horrified by the sound there was a muffling of the voices as soon as the bass and the drums kicked in it really covered up the vocals, and it made your ears sound like you had been under water....several people around me were talking about it extensively after the show. So i don't know what he sound man was doing in the FOH but man I've seen a few acts here before and never experienced the sound as bad as it was that night...my wife Concurred to my dismay, i was hoping to impress her with this like she was impressed with Cummings / Bauchman and Roger Hodgson! Even the ventures had great Sound .....Conclusion ...WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?????I dont think that the seats weere a reflection of how the sound was...we saw the pink floydd thing from this level and it was fine, I dint see monitors on the floor with the band??? Made the best of it, i'd question whether to see them again on return....unless the sound issue was addressed

  • Three Dog Night a "Three Star Night"....no ...4 !

by Mozy on 2012-03-14Casino Rama - RamaRating: 4 out of 5

Great show with great showmanship ! played most of their hits .... some not ....that didn't make the cut with the market place at the time. Even a couple of new tunes ..that are available on itunes! Very interactive, comical and told some interesting stories of their past ! Hadn't seen them in 41 years ... and it was at Varsity stadium in '71 at a Begger's Banquet......and it was awesome ... to finally catch up with the boys again !! Still look good for their ages and sound good too !!

Really enjoyed the show. The oldies were good as expected but some of the new stuff was very good, especially the accapella "Child"s Prayer" at the end of the concert. Worth the price of admission jsut for that. Highly recommend.

  • You can't bring the 70's back

by TartanArmywannabe on 2012-03-13Casino Rama - RamaRating: 1 out of 5

We saw "Three Dog Night" at Casino Rama last Saturday. They were not in good voice, but no surprise due to the age of the group. They complained and coughed through the whole performance. At first, I thought they were bored, but eventually they told some funny stories and it picked up a little.

  • Three Dog Night was a blast from the past!

Lots of fun. Still rocking after all these years. Went with my 27 year old daughter and two of my same generation cousins, highly enjoyable! Thank you for putting on such a FUNtastic show!

  • 3 dog night too short

by paparef on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 4 out of 5

The performance was great but only lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes. 2 or 3 more songs would have been the best.

  • 2 Dog Night with a Cold

    by DMDM2 on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 2 out of 5

Good seats, nice venue, good crowd, but the band was NOT what we expected. Less one original singing member, the remaining singers struggled throughout the show, omitting major hits, and had the musicians play extra loud to cover for vocal inadequacies. We have attended similar era performers (Neil Young/ Eagles/ Don Henley) and were blown away with the quality of the shows. Disappointing to travel a distance to hear a main act of the 70's that did not perform well. Thanks for asking.

  • Three Dog Night still have it!

by muzicluvr on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 4 out of 5

Though it took a while to get their pipes warmed up, and had some trouble hitting those high notes (who can anymore!!), it was a great night overall. Their beautiful a cappella rendition of "Prayer of the Children" was certainly one of the highlights of the show. Of course, it wouldn't have been complete without "Shambala" , "Black and White" or "Joy to the World". They did some new material, and I look forward to the time it becomes available in my area. Great show guys!! I hope a lot more good music to come!

  • Three Dog Night Rocks Rama

Wow,thought we would just here a lot of the old hits and enjoy, instead we heard all of the old hits,a few new songs,a few songs that never made big hits, but the energy and performance were beyond my expectations,it was a great show, myself and my two guests talked about it all the way home, they rocked Rama and it was great to hear the stories of the band members throughout the years, couldn't have asked for a better performance from each member.

  • Three Dog Night Still Rocks!!!

by Subabus on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 5 out of 5

Was so impressed with the quality of the music and the guy's voices after all these years. They still sound fantastic. The richness of their voices really showed in their acapella number.

  • 3 dog night is a fun gig

by Wifemademego on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 3 out of 5

-had lowish expectations. Liked the group when current but have not followed them. -was much better than expected -performers were engaging and seemed like individuals would like to share a meal/beer with. -their 21st century rap performance was very well done and lots of fun. -had some difficulty linking songs with original versions in some cases. May have been my faulty memory! - My wife and I came away happy we attended. -Hall and Oates is my standard of excellence for such types of performances . The show did not meet that std, but was darn good.

  • Awesome

This is my all time favorite group and they did not disappoint. They were spectacular, and took me back to my youth. I would recommend anyone loving the songs from the 60's and 70's be go see them.

  • They've stilll got it

Great show, great music. I would definately see them again

  • Not what they used to be!

    by Wiley1 on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 2 out of 5

It has been 39 years since I have seen Three Dog Night. Unfortunately, they have not aged well. To me the drummer seem to be trying to speed up the songs and the singers were trying to keep up. Their voices at times were cracking but were better when the were belting the songs out. It seemed that their performance was uninspired. It lacked enthusiasm. Lead guitarist though was right on. The concert started on time but, and this says it all either about the group or the audience, when the concert seemed over, the audience simply got up and left and made no effort to have them return to the stage for an encore. I was disappointed that they did not do Chest Fever or Eli's Coming. Maybe there were saving them for the encore. Mediocre concert and performance

  • 3 Dog Night...what a blast

    by Redhead3 on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 4 out of 5

They were so much fun to watch and sounded great. Had forgotten how many hits they had and with each song I remembered the lyrics just like way back when. They added a few new songs with were truly wonderful. Most times when 'oldies bands' add new stuff it's usually not as mesmerizing. The only negative thing I have to add is that the audience was lame. The band was up beat and fun but the audience certainly didn't give them the participation they deserved. Makes me feel us Canadians don't know how to appreciate a great band. Way to go 3 Dog Night, some of us still love to groove with you.

  • Hellooooo Jeremiah!

by TeeeFry on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 4 out of 5

It was absolutely wonderful to go down memory lane, a very nostalgic show for those who remember ... :) They played all their greatest hits. Also, pre-show, it was fun to go back to those vinyl (remember?) covers and match up the 70's members with the mature ones on stage. The band members held their own on Saturday night. Lots of fun, with the audience singing along with the chorus. The a capella number in the encore was amazing, brought goosebumps to me. You can hear that they still have the harmonies.

  • Three Dog Night as good as ever!

by Murph on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - RamaRating: 4 out of 5

Danny, Corey and the boys were great. Was my first concert in 1970, I saw them at Rama last year and bought tickets as soon they went on sale this year. I love concerts where all the songs are at least top 20 hits, plus you know all the licks and words. I can't wait to download their two new songs Heart of Blues and Prayer For The Children. You can pick them up for $0.99 each on their website. Their vocal work is superb, the musical talent is long and great and 4 of the six members have been there from the beginning. Look forward to next year!
