Three Dog Night in Concert

Legendary band, Three Dog Night, now in its fifth decade, claims some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night.

Three Dog Night hits weave through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures -- songs like "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)", "Joy to the World", "Black and White", "Shambala" and "One" serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize Three Dog Night's continuing popularity.

This Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on its legacy alone. Always working to expand its audience, Three Dog Night has embraced and been embraced by 21st century music technology. New and existing fans buy Three Dog Night's music on iTunes as well as at record stores. In fact, releases from this decade alone have sold well over a million copies.

Three Dog Night also pushed boundaries by recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving fans new and old a chance to experience its dynamic performances of the hits as well as several new songs. The project, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and released to coincide with the band's 35th Anniversary, added exciting new orchestral arrangements to Three Dog Night's signature sound.

Three Dog Night maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 70 dates a year. The hit filled concerts are performed for generation-spanning audiences by Danny Hutton (founder/lead vocalist) and Michael Allsup (guitar) with Paul Kingery (bass/vocals), Pat Bautz (drums),) David Morgan (vocals) and Howard Lavarea (keyboards). The band's now-famous name refers to native Australian hunters in the outback who huddled with their dogs for warmth on cold nights; the coldest being a "Three Dog Night".

Boasting chart and sales records that are virtually unmatched in popular music Three Dog Night had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including 3 #1 singles, 11 Top 10's, 18 straight Top 20's, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. The hits appeared on best-selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country). Its records Three Dog Night Page 2 continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of Three Dog Night records have been sold through the years.

Created in 1968 by Danny Hutton Three Dog Night recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) new songwriters of their time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group's eclectic taste, combined with their ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in Three Dog Night dominating the charts for years.

Now, marking 50 years on the road Three Dog Night continues to grow its fan base by keeping up a full schedule of concerts at theaters, performing arts centers, fairs, festivals, corporate events, and casinos. Since 1986, the band has performed over 2,500 shows including two Super Bowls.

    Great memories

by AandC on 2012-03-12Casino Rama - Rama

Loved seeing Three Dog Night. They were the first band I ever saw, when I was in grade 12 and it was wonderful to hear those songs again. They seemed to be enjoying themselves and great buddies after so many years together. Nice to see. Too bad they didn't sing "Eli's Coming" but it's a pretty tough song with some technically challenging sustained high notes. As to the Casino venue, we were profoundly disappointed that restaurants didn't seem equipped to deal with the crowds; an hour and a half wait for a table is inexcusable. We ended up going back into Orillia for fast food, which wasn't something to make the night special. Concert-goers should be advised to reserve in advance. Ushers inside the concert area were very friendly and helpful.

The songs , well they are absolutely fabulous. They have been to Casino Rama many times. I hope they will continue to visit Canada in the future. Too bad they are Sabres Fans!! just kidding.

    On the Road to Shambala!

by Teleking on 2011-07-25River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

Fantastic night of music and memories flawed only by the horrible sound at the River Rock casino. If the Casino has a house sound man, please do everyone a favour and fire him. The room only holds 950 people. They have a state of the art sound system. Why is the sound always so bad here? It should be perfect. That aside, the band was amazing. I miss Floyd Sneed's inventive and creative drumming but all the hits were delivered well and the drumming was probably only noticed by me. Not that the new guy (21 years with the band) was bad but many key drum parts were completely absent. I could have done without the parody section of "Mama Told Me Not To Come" with all the rap stuff but I guess the lads felt like not taking things too seriously was good thing. The crowd went right along with them, laughing and having a good time but just not for me I guess. Vocals were bang on as were the keyboard and guitar parts when we could hear them. Loved the band, loved the whole night just please fix the sound!

An amazing evening with Three Dog Night

by BB57 on 2011-07-25River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

Three Dog Night was one of my favorite bands as a teenager, and was looking forward to the concert. Both my husband and I were blown away, after the concert ended we just sat in our seats and said 'Wow'. Their harmonious voices have not faltered and I loved how they could crack a joke about their age!

    3 dog night

by samyar on 2011-07-25River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

The first song should have been one of their old hits - it wasn't. Although some of their new songs were good , I still wanted more of their old hits. They should have ended with their hit - Eli is coming - but they didn't. I rate this as a 7.5 out of 10 (as did my wife)

    3 Dog Night was great!

by wasa13yrold on 2011-07-25River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

What a fabulous concert...hit after hit after hit! We were brought back to those years of great music in the 70's and 80's. These guys still have fabulous voices and did a great job of entertaining us not only with music but loved the memorabilia bits bout history of songs and life stories. I will definitely be looking for the new album...

    3 Dog Night were awesome

by Boons on 2011-07-25River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

A really, really good show - just wish it had been longer. The singers still have their amazing voices and guitar and drums superb. It was amazing to hear 3 of the band members had been together for 41 years. Nothing beats the older groups.

Together for over 41 years - amazing, and still performing some new material. The new songs they performed were very up to date, and we look forward to their new CD. Of course, all their hits still sound good also.

    Two Dog Night without Chuck

by Kimtastic on 2010-07-25Casino Rama - Orillia

The concert was awesome and the boys pulled it off. The only thing that could have made it better is if Chuck Negron had been on stage as well. They played pretty much all of their best with the exception of "The Show Must go on" They didn't have the same range without him and at times seemed to struggle. One of the highlites of the show was the rap version of "Momma told me not to come" which everyone enjoyed!!! Had I not see Chuck touring last summer with the HIPPIFEST tour I probably wouldn't have known. ........... Tell Corey to stop it and let Chuck back in :)

Three Dog Night at Casino Rama - July 3, 2010

by PikeR on 2010-07-17Casino Rama - Orillia

An excellent and exciting concert. Cory and Danny sang most of their hits from 1969 to 1976 and some other songs from their catalogue that weren't hit singles. Having seen Three Dog Night in their glory days at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in the early 1970's (with Chuck Negron and the original band members) and also having seen the current lineup at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls in 2008 I knew what to expect. Although Danny and Cory's voices aren't what they were back in the day, the still put on a pretty good show. Cory did most of the lead singing, doing both the songs that he and Chuck had originally sang. It was a great night and another concert memory for my treasure trove. Well worth the price of admission and I would, and probably will go to see them again. May they have many more years ahead

Three Dog Night Still Got It

    by 1dkd1dkd on 2010-07-06Casino Rama - Orillia

What can I say? These guys are seasoned pros. The order of the songs played was perfect and for the most part the arrangements were true to the originals which is exactly what I went for. These humble, but true showmen, are the real McCoy when it comes to late 60's/early 70's purveyors of Rock, where high calibre and rich quality of the music is paramount. It was a real treat to be part of it since I was too young to go to concerts (10 yrs. old) when I was first exposed to Three Dog Night. Shortcomings? Just two small things both in Shambala: they threw in some keyboard effect to compensate for a falsetto in the chorus. It sounded off-key and shrill and just didn't work. I wonder why the vocally capable bass player didn't take that on instead. Secondly, the cowbell was missing from the one part it was used, in the original. But I was looking for it. For me, all the subtle nuances in the background vocally and instrumentally is what Three Dog Night was all about. But incredibly, Danny Hutton, Cory Wells, Michael Allsup, and Jimmy Greenspoon had it all together, gave us some humour, interesting stories about their history and some unexpected, true to their roots originality and re-interpretation on "Mama Told Me". Michael Allsup - a true guitar God. Lots of flash but never so much that it over-powered the heart and soul of the song. He certainly knows that less is more and always straddled the line between both. His enthusiasm gave us the impression he was playing for the first time; much appreciated by a young-minded fan in a state of shock by finding himself sitting in a crowd of white-haired mid-lifers. I am truly complimented as a fan by their efforts to bring it back for us. Thanks guys!

    The Dogs Were Out Tonight

by Dogwalker on 2010-07-05Casino Rama - Orillia

Thought the concert overall was very good - took them two (2) songs to get the sound right but from there it was quite enjoyable. They were energetic, engaging and had a good rapport with the audience. As with the " Lionel Ritchie " concert I was disappointed in that they played only for approx. 1 hr 10 minutes + one (1) encore - not sure if this is Casino Rama's doing or the bands but its becoming abit disconcerting when there were still a number of hits they could have done and for the money would expect them to play abit longer. However, other than that would go back and see them in a few years.
