About

Metallica was formed by drummer Lars Ulrich and singer/guitarist James Hetfield in Los Angeles in 1981; since then, their astonishing career milestones include winning eight Grammys and selling over 125 million albums worldwide, including the critically-acclaimed Master of Puppets (1986), often cited as one of the most important metal albums in history. They are also one of the most popular and commercially successful touring acts in history — according to Pollstar, as of 2019 Metallica had sold over 22 million tickets and grossed $1.4 billion in touring since 1982. Metallica’s fifth studio album, Metallica (1991), famously known as The Black Album, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and features some of the band’s biggest hits: “Nothing Else Matters,” “The Unforgiven” and “Enter Sandman.” On six consecutive genre-defining studio albums (from 1991’s Metallica through 2016’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct), Metallica has consistently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In support of their 2023 album 72 Seasons, Metallica’s M72 World Tour will see the band playing two nights in every city they visit throughout 2023-24.

Metallica is always great but this was a disappointment

    by BA55I5T on 2023-08-23

I love Metallica, this it my third time seeing them live and I have to say it was the worst of the 3. Nothing against Metallica themselves but just the overall organization and fell of the concert was horrible. The Olympic stadium is a horrible venue for a concert, the acoustics are bad and just the overall feel of the place just feels old. Not historic old like Massey hall, more just the feeling of why hasn't this place been knocked over yet. As well the fact that if your on the 400 level your alcohol options are either Coors light, or straight shots of liquor, they will not mix you a drink. As well they closed off the 3 roads around the stadium and told everyone to take transit, but then closed off a subway station forcing 85,000 to try to go into the same station at the same time. As well Montreal is a beautiful city and I had no issues with the people when exploring, but at the concert those were the most obnoxious people I have never met. I get being proud of where your from but in the middle of a song screaming "Quebecois"ever 45 seconds is just stupid. To add on to it all, whoever was mixing the sound must have been a 6 year old, nothing was leveled properly. For Pantera the second the drums started you couldn't hear a single other instrument. Same with Metallica, I could barely hear the bass but Kirk's solo's were way too loud. Again nothing against Metallica or their ability to perform, but if you ever see a concert at the Montreal Olympic stadium, DO NOT GO, it will be a waste of money.

    Amazing group.

    by Jag on 2023-08-21

I love metallica and if they comme again I will be there too. The only thing was the stadium Olympic, is the worst place for a concert. The sound wasn't good and we have to much echo. With all that I can say that I have fun with one of my favorites groups

    Great show 🤪

A great Metallica show. It was the third time I saw the band and this was the best show ever. The set list, the lights, the people…everything was perfect 🤩.

Excellent performances dampened by poor sound quality.

    by Mojo55 on 2023-08-20

Amazing performances by the bands were let down by the poor sound quality of Olympic Stadium. If you sang along to your favourite bands, you probably sounded better than the echoes that reverberated throughout the Stadium during their performance. Very disappointed that I could not clearly hear James and the boys sing their hearts out!!

    AMAZING Show

    by Morty B on 2023-08-19

Saw them last weekend in Montreal. Ive seen them before but this show was so special because of their great setlist 32 songs in two nights. Getting in and out of stadium was really frustrating and venue had some acoustics issue.but still it was an outstanding gig.

    Awesome music terrible venue

    by Rob on 2023-08-19

The music both nights was awesome... The Big "O"as a venue is terrible... concessions were either absent or terrible... the security staff were pricks forcing people to sit down... Absolutely no air ventilation in the place... The event staff were incompetent & appeared to not know what to do... Completely unprepared for a crowd of 80,000... I would give 5 stars for the music & 0 stars for the venue... Again music awesome venue terrible....

Great show! Poor sound at the Big O

    by Joe Bin on 2023-08-19

Metallica was awesome both nights. Cant say anything more than these guys gave a GREAT Performance. However, sound was horible on Friday to a point we couldnt understand what was said! Sunday was better no doubt. 5 Finger Death Punch was also incredible. Thanks to my buddy that got me into their music. 🤘🤘

    So disappointed!

    by Jackie on 2023-08-19

We saw Metallica live in Toronto TWICE back in the 90's and early 2000's. They were both amazing concerts! We were incredibly excited to take our son who is 18 and a huge Metallica fan to a concert to experience this great event. After 18 hours of travel and a great deal of expense, we were so disappointed with the venue. Metallica I'm sure performed great, but the sound quality was awful in the Montreal Olympic Stadium, where we saw the show. Was it simply our seats? No idea! But it was bad, really bad. It just sounded like "noise". We don't know how else to describe it! Very disheartening. We've been asked by many how the concert was and sadly our response is "terrible"!

    Great show, great atmosphere but

    by Diva21 on 2023-08-19

What a treat for metal heads of all stripes, young and old, kids and families, and the OG. One does not attend a concert at the Big O for the sound, which is awful, but for the experience. The band, the set list for diehard fans, the lights and pyrotechnics (careful James) and the fans themselves made up for the quality of sound. 🤘

    Amazing band but bad sound.

    by Fanleg on 2023-08-18

Metallica was phenomenal and amazing but the sound was terrible. On top of that, the stage is way to far even with good seats, so I couldn’t see the members of the band and I was always looking at the big screens wich is pretty sad. The special effects were spectacular but when you pay that kind of money you expect at least to see and hear the band. Conclusion, I think that the Olympic stadium is a bad choice for concerts.

    So... so

    by Alx on 2023-08-18

Visuals were great. Great sight of view, i was seating at 452. Presentation was great - Metallica delivered great show, but the track list wasn't exciting (maybe bcs 2nd day?). That was not great: - waiting time 3 hours before Metallica, i came at 4pm, supporting bands (zero interest for me) started at 6pm, Metallica started at 9pm. - awful sound - too loud, a lot of reverb, when put earplugs - the voice was cut. I think, at the end, audience was very tired and they didn't ask for encore for Metallica!!! Weird... So, i will not go again for music shows to Stade Olympique.

Metallica in Montreal - Night 2!

    by A. A. on 2023-08-18

This is my 7th time seeing Metallica and this was night 2 at the Olympic Stadium as part of the M72 World Tour. This was the best show I’ve seen of them yet! The group was tight, the crowd was amazing and the effects were great! I can’t wait for my 8th time. Metallica, the greatest hard rock band in the world.. don’t miss them!

    Olympic Stadium Sucks

    by Fan on 2023-08-18

Metallica is amazing and they know how to put off an incredible production, however my issue with the show was the venue itself. The sound was horrid. Major echo in the building that made some songs extremly difficult to identify, The guitars and vocals were just mashed together. I saw them at the Rogers Centre during the Hardwired tour and they sounded fantastic. I've been to many other venues over the years and Olympic Stadium was by far the worst. Personally, I will never go for a concert there again.
