About

For going on a decade now, Alter Bridge has been bringing hard-driving riffs, aggressive energy, and high-voltage stage shows to ticket buyers starving for real rock. With their fourth and latest record Fortress, the Orlando, Fla.-based foursome has further refined the alternative metal sound that has become their trademark, adding an emotional intensity that has stirred anyone lucky enough to catch them on tour. (It is no wonder that their live album and concert film Live in Amsterdam rose an astonishing 15,00 spots in 8 hours when it hit Amazon in 2009.) Fortress, which debuted at #1 on the UK rock chart, features the blistering lead off single "Addicted to Pain," a searing indictment of abusive relationships. It is the kind of song fans of Alter Bridge, which rose from the ashes of Creed when that band originally broke up in 2004, have come to expect yet can still find completely surprising. Indeed, while remaining a platform for singer-guitarist Myles Kennedy's soaring tenor and the epic guitar lines or Mark Tremonti (three-time winner of Guitar World magazine's Guitarist of the Year), Fortress is by far the band's most musically adventurous album. Expect their concerts to be no less expressive and expansive.

by Celi on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

I flew from Kelowna - BC just to go to this show. What I can say is that it was totally worth it!!! Loved watching Tremonti playing, he is one of the greatest guitarists alive. They played old songs and new songs, their new album is amazing. 10/10!!!

    AlterBridge Toronto

by Goldirocks on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

This was my first time seeing AlterBridge live, after being a bit late to the AB party (because the mainstream media has never pushed them at all). But once I found them, I wondered where they’ve been all my rockn’roll and metal life! They are as good or better than any of the best the 70’s 80’s and 90’s rock scene had to offer that I grew up with! I’m shocked and slightly dismayed for their sakes that they aren’t filling Scotiabank Arena; but I’m selflessly happy that I got to see them up close in the really nice History music club in Toronto! It was packed and sold out with over 2000 fans ! Seeing my new heavy melodic music heroes up close was such a great memory! And they are simply masters of their musical instruments! Lead singer Myles Kennedy had his beautiful soaring vocals in fine form, while he also plays a great rhythm and lead guitar at the same time! He is obviously a humble dude and even seems slightly uncomfortable with the adoration he was getting from the appreciative loud crowd! He seems like he is probably a somewhat shy person in real life, but he is in his element with a microphone in front of him, and a guitar in hand! All this to say, his humble nature just makes us like him more, since he’s the antithesis of the stereotypical ‘rockstar’ attitude, which he actually has the good looks and the talent to deserve - especially when compared to most other rap and pop stars of today who act like they’re god’s gift, but don’t have a fifth of the talent of Myles! Meanwhile, Mark Tremonti was always ‘giving it’ with his muscular metal guitar tone and riffage, and shreddy stylings! He provided awesome background vocals and even sang lead on a few songs to give Myles a little break. Mark is also a top notch lead guitar player and songwriter, and his playing did nothing to dispel the popular opinion that he is right at the top of the 2000’s metal / hard rock guitar players! Brian Marshall was very capable on bass and content to let Myles and Mark be the focal point of the crowd. Meanwhile Scott ‘Flip’ Phillips was holding everything together expertly on drums, arms and sticks held high in the air between hitting the skins with seemingly reckless abandon, but in perfect synch and control. He’s very fun to watch! The set list was an excellent cross-section of their career to date. I would have loved a few more songs from AB3 and Fortress, while The Last Hero and Walk The Sky were shut out and each album could have had two songs at least that deserved to be there! But AB simply have too many great songs and albums to pick from and can’t go wrong with any of their choices! They could easily do three completely different set lists and fans would be happy. They started fast and heavy! Its was so loud, but I could clearly hear each player’s musical instrument! The bass rumble and the bass drums punched us physically right in the gut! The two guitar players sounding crunchy and delicately as their songs required. And Myles’ voice seemingly effortlessly soaring above it all; always in tune! A really heartwarming bit was when Myles came out alone with acoustic guitar in hand to do fan favorite tear jerker Watch Over You. The Toronto crowd broke into a long and loud ‘AlterBridge’ chant that finally dissolved into raucous cheering. Myles looked genuinely moved and finally jokingly said that its times like this that he wonders if fans have them confused for someone else? (What a guy! - No Myles, we know its you and are trying to show you that we really love you guys for the music you provide us, and that we wish you got alot more of this adulation from the mainstream!) Another funny bit was in the musical bridge after the great bass solo in Cry of Achilles. Myles and Mark were trading off with the off-kilter timing of the bridge guitar riffs, blasts, and cool sound effects (and obviously enjoying each other’s company), when Myles suddenly realized he was missing his cue back to vocals; and ran quickly back to his mic maybe a quarter note behind and laughingly got the vocal line off in a bit of a rushed manner, before finding his place lyrically in the song again! This is part of the beauty of live music (not what passes for music at ur typical lip-synched superbowl;) - the band faithfully and expertly recreated complex musical passages and obviously loves their work -and each other- to the point of momentarily forgetting where they were for a half beat. Simply endearing! Anyways; it was over all too soon (yet they played 16 epic songs including 4 from the new classic, Pawns and Kings) and I finally left into the Toronto night humming along to final encore song Open Your Eyes, along with thousands of equally happy AlterBridge fans! Got home safely to the oblivious rest of the world to whom I want to yell, ‘Open your Eyes!’ 10 out of 10 review! Can be hard to meet / see your heroes, but AlterBridge were as great as I hoped they’d be!

    Too Loud

    by M. S. on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

Mammoth WVH was excellent - that kid has talent and a bright future ahead. Alter Bridge - guitars were too loud. They drowned out Myles' voice, was very disappointed. I go to concerts to appreciate the music and the lyrics - not just crazy loud guitars. It seems every concert you attend any more, the guitars out power everything and it's just not enjoyable. When Myles did two stripped down acoustic songs, that was the best part of the night.

Alter Bridge / Mammoth WVH Toronto

by Bearsnflames on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

I had an absolute fantastic time. Mammoth WVH was the opener and they sounded great. Wolfgang came across as one very humble rock star. They will be headliners in the near future. Alter Bridge were a power house from beginning to the end. Again came across as really genuine guys playing some chest pumping music. Sounded better than the album. I would in a heartbeat see either of these 2 bands again. Some props for the venue. History in Toronto is an excellent venue to watch your favorite band. Lineups were quick, security was present. Bars were everywhere. The best part were the sightlines to see the bands were great. A venue built with customer experience in mind. A1.

First time seeing Alter Bridge and first time at History.

    by Scotty M. on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

Overall the show was excellent. I was there to see Mammoth WVH, I had not heard of Alter Bridge prior to purchasing my tickets. I loved Mammoth, I saw them last year at the Danforth Music Hall with Dirty Honey, and one again they did not disappoint. Great musicians with lots of energy. I will see these guys again and again. Alter Bridge was also very good, very tight set with lots of crowd interaction. I listened to some of their stuff before the show but wish I knew more of their songs. Depending on who the opening act was, I would probably not not go see them again. The venue was great, however, we arrived with plenty of time before the show to a huge line up to get in and ended up missing the first couple of songs by Mammoth. I don't think the music was mixed properly, it seemed to be really guitar heavy and I had a hard time hearing the vocals at times. Overall I'm just glad to be going to concerts again.

    Top notch musicians

by DRMARCO on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

Alterbridge gave a great show, with a good selection of a few songs from the new album and many classics from their past. The sound quality was quite good -the venue was excellent. Mammoth was an excellent opening act with great musicianship. Both groups looked like they were genuinely appreciative of the audience, a sold out house in History Toronto.

    Best Concert

    by Todd v on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

Alter Bridge put on a great performance from beginning to end. How this band is not selling out Scotiabank is a mystery. The sound at the venue was great. We were really impressed with how professional and polite the History staff were. Only negative is you need more than one exit from the parking lot.

    Both performances were excellent

Mammoth WVH and Alterbridge were spectacular. The VIP could have been better with more interaction and a better selection of merch to purchase ie. signed Vinyl.

by The Event was absolutely Amazing!!!! on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

Both Mammoth & Alter Bridge were amazing and the venue was stellar! Love the intimacy of seeing a band at the History. The lineup was absolutely massive but I was also impressed how they processed tickets and people through security. AWESOME TIME!!!

    First concert - done right

by Pulkit on 2023-02-14History - Toronto

This was my first ever concert. And I don't think there could have been a better band to watch live for your first time than AB. The entire show was amazing from start to finish. The opening band (Mammoth WVH) were super as well. All AB members are so charismatic and interacted with the crowd and very enthusiastic about their craft. Always a joy to watch artists enjoy what they do. Watching Mark Tremonti live was a different kind of beast altogether. Hope to attend many AB shows in the future!
