About

Legendary New York-bred singer-songwriter Billy Joel has toured only sporadically in recent years, but fans have plenty of opportunities to score tickets to see him in concert going forward -- if they're willing to head out to New York's Madison Square Garden. Joel signed an open-ended deal with MSG that will have him playing a concert at the venue once per month for as long as there's demand. And demand has never been a problem for Joel at he historic New York venue; he played his first show there in 1978, and had logged 46 concerts at the arena by 2013.
New York isn't alone in its love for the singer. Joel has long been established as one of the top-grossing touring artists in the U.S., and has sold more than 150 million records over the course his four-decade career. After recording a long string of hits including "Piano Man," "New York State of Mind," "Just the Way You Are," "You May Be Right," "Pressure," "Uptown Girl," "We Didn't Start the Fire," and  "The River of Dreams," Joel decided that he was done writing pop and rock songs. It's a decision he's stuck with; it's been more than 20 years since he's recorded a new pop or rock album. He's composed new classical material instead, while continuing to play songs from his catalog in concert.

  • WOW - what a great show!!!

    by JacquieF15 on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy was so engaging and played so many songs including some nice deeper cuts- can't wait to see him again! Too bad the audience was so staid and would not get up and dance. I wanted to dance in the aisles to avoid blocking the people's view behind me but kept getting told I couldn't dance in the aisles - only in my seat - Only in Toronto would this happen!!

  • Billy Joel never disappoints!

    by Toronto2014 on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Billy Joel's concert on March 9th and Billy never disappoints! I think this is the fourth time I've seen him in concert, and I've enjoyed every one. He still sounds great and really engaged the audience. His light show was also tasteful and not over the top. A highly recommended show if you ever have the opportunity to catch it near you.

  • Billy Joel was Amazing

    by Uptown28 on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I was really impressed with Billy Joel's concert. I love his music and have only seen his concert on dvd. This concert was way better than I ever expected and we were incredibly impressed. Concerts that have a lot of dancing and entertainment put me off because I don't want to feel as though I'm at some cheezy show on a tropical resort or on a cruise ship. I paid to hear the music, and that's what I expect to be the focus and that's exactly what Billy Joel delivered. The thing that really made it for me was seeing how comfortable Billy Joel was and how funny and real he is. I never expected that. He made a minor mistake and laughed that it would be all over You Tube tomorrow, but to be honest, I really prefer when musicians make mistakes because then I KNOW that they're really performing and not lip synching to have a perfect performance. I have so much respect for REAL musicians who can give an honest performance night after night. I can listen to perfect versions of music on my iPod, but I want to hear the real deal in concert. I really like how he acknowledged the mistake, made a joke about it and moved on. I think it made theconcert better and memorable. My respect level for him has soared since he did that, especially since I've recently learned guitar and I realize how difficult it is to deliver a stellar performance. His band was amazing as well. It's incredible how gifted they all are and the fact that a few play multiple instruments and sing is really mind blowing. Mastering one instrument is difficult enough, mastering 4 or 5 instruments and singing on top of it - WOW!

  • Billy Joel evening went way too fast!!!!

    by ralphs4321 on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Joel is an awesome talent. We thoroughly enjoyed the song choices. He has so much to choose from for his playlist and I am such a huge fan that it wouldn't matter what he played. He was full of energy and the music was played to perfection. He was funny and entertaining. I would certainly go and see him again. Of course I would love to see him in a more intimate setting where you could get a little closer to see him, but he still attracts such a large crowd, I'm sure that would be difficult. Glad he came back to Toronto after all these years. Love, love, love Billy!!!!

  • BILLY JOEL WAS THE REAL DEAL!

Fun, enjoyable, nostalgic. He and his band were very impressive, energetic and talented.

  • Billy Joel - the Ultimate Performer!

by Tweetheart on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Sunday, March 9th at Toronto's Air Canada Centre was a love -in for Billy Joel. From the first second he came onto the stage, he was he total control, weaving his spell over his adoring fans. Each song he shared, built the audience up with anticipation of hearing their individual favourites. And he didn't disappoint anyone. I'm sure each one of us got to hear their own favourite. The band of musicians were talented and tight. Each one a headliner in their own right, and he showcased each one, so we could see just how talented they were. He didn't need backup singers because the musicians were double duty in that department, doing a fabulous job. I wouldn't fail to see him again.

  • a born entertainer

Aside from the fact that I sat so very far away I enjoyed this concert tremendously. He is witty and talented!

  • Billy Joel Rocked the ACC!!!

by Twilightman on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy may be almost 65 but the energy that was in the ACC on Sunday night was the most I have ever experienced at a concert. He had the whole place standing and singing with him and the atmosphere was electric! Best concert of my life...

  • Billy Joel

by Paulfan on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Joel is still amazing at 65, maybe better than ever. I've seen most of his concerts in Toronto since the first one at Massey Hall, this was the best yet. The back up group is fantastic especially the saxophone.

  • Billy Joel was amazing!!

by BellaS on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

His piano rotated which was excellent - you were never always looking at his back. He sounded great and sang all the hits I went to hear! The band was good too, especially the horn solos! Billy connected with the audience and reacted to things people shouted out - in my mind the mark of a true entertainer. He wasn't just up there singing songs, he was joking with the audience and listening. I almost felt like I was in a quaint piano bar.

  • Billy Joel simply -unforgetable!

by ClassyBonJovi on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Best concert, thoroughly enjoyable! Billy Joel was worth waiting all these years to see!

  • Could have watched him play for another two hours

by RkNRoll on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Just an amazing show, with hit after hit and just the right amount of deep cuts. Billy seems to come across as a bit of an old crank in the press these days, but he was sharp (his playing and singing were great), playful (dropping in little bits of Gordon Lightfoot and The Band between songs) and very funny (cracking wise, often at his own expense).

  • Billy Joel - Amazing

    by Ben10 on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

There was opening act - Jon McLaughlin. We really enjoyed him - very talented and was a nice warm up to the main event. Can I just say? Billy Joel's voice has not changed at all, I mean some singers lose it just a little bit as they age. Not him. He sounded exactly like the Billy Joel of old. Even though he is aging, as he saw himself on the video screen he commented that he looks exactly like his dad lol. The show was also visually amazing, great lighting and video effects. Lots of fun. He did a great selection of songs, most of the first few songs I personally did not know, but they were warm and wonderful...but then the hits starting coming....and coming...and he never let up. The atmosphere grew more charged with each song. Personally I really like "The Downeaster Alexa" and so I nearly cried when he actually sang it! One of the highlights of course was Piano Man...very powerful moment with the whole crowd singing a long. Another highlight for me was just how personable Billy Joel is...very open and funny, lots of chit chat with the audience. Seemed very genuine and down to earth. In short, what a great time we had. If he comes back to T.O. we will be there and hopefully in better seats this time!!!! (But was still incredible from the nosebleeds, the video screens ensure you're not missing anything).

  • Billy Joel Rocked!

  • Billy was amazing!

    by 2G2BT on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts that I've attended. Billy did not disappoint and sang all the hit favourites and many others. He made the show very personal and paid tribute to some great Canadian music icons and places. The band was fantastic and the light show stunning.

  • Billy Joel was a consumate musician!

by Skyparie on 2014-03-12Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Joel sang all the hits we loved him for, he sounded great, amazing that he could play the piano and sing for two hours without sounding fatigued, and he's 65 yrs old! All the musicians on his team were also great, especially the saxophonist, trumpeteer, and percussionist. The lights bothered me though, especially the bright spotlights that were focused for a time on parts of the audience. Also, I wish he sang Just the Way You Are and some of his slow, tender songs.
