About

Dave Matthews Band in Concert

With a career spanning more than 27 years, Dave Matthews Band is one of the most influential bands in rock history. In 1991, vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape and sought the assistance of drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville, VA music scene. 16-year-old bassist Stefan Lessard came on board shortly thereafter. Their infectious, distinctive sound garnered lots of early attention and a die-hard loyal fan base, catapulting the band into one of the most successful touring acts of the past three decades.

The group has since released nine studio albums and numerous live recordings, selling a collective 38 million CDs and DVDs combined since the 1994 release of its major label debut, Under the Table and Dreaming. The GRAMMY®-winning band's many hits include "What Would You Say," "Crash Into Me," "Too Much," "Everyday," "American Baby," "Funny The Way It Is," "Mercy" and "Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)."

Founding member LeRoi Moore passed away in August of 2008 and the band paid tribute to him with 2009's Platinum-certified Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Dave Matthews Band has since welcomed longtime collaborators/touring musicians Jeff Coffin (saxophone), Rashawn Ross (horns) and Tim Reynolds (guitar) into the lineup and - most recently - keyboardist Buddy Strong.

With 2018's Come Tomorrow, Dave Matthews Band became the first group in history to have seven consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In a Critic's Pick review, The New York Times observed, "willed optimism fills the songs on 'Come Tomorrow,' while cynicism and irony are nowhere within earshot... each song notes the fears and sorrows it's determined to overcome. The music does that, with consolation in its melodies and a life force in its rhythms."

Renowned for their live performances, Dave Matthews Band has sold over 24 million tickets since its inception and ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade. The group's Bama Works Fund, established in 1999, has raised more than $52 million dollars for humanitarian and environmental initiatives.

  • BEST SHOW I'VE SEEN

by fennieosu on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This show was pretty much the best show I've ever seen. This was my first Dave show and by far the best. They played a 22 song set list!! I now can't go a day without listening to DMB at all now. Definitely going to more in the near future.

  • Dave Matthews Band Amazing Once Again

    by sunshower82 on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Dave Matthews Band played an amazing concert, for at least 3 hours and at least 3 encores. Their new album, "Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King" is a lively mix of songs, enjoyable from start to finish. A beautiful tribute to LeRoi Moore, and makes me want to head down to New Orleans as soon as I can get away! This band is fantastic to watch, they really truly cannot hide how much they enjoy themselves on stage. Of course Dave is a superb performer and I enjoy his sidenotes and stories about the songs (especially daughter Stella's request to be sung about in "Alligator Pie"!) But Boyd Tinsley really gives his all, Stefan's usual dancey-bass playing is entertaining as always and Carter's smile abolsutely lights the stage from behind his drumset. The Molson Ampitheatre is a great venue for this band, I prefer to see them in the open air rather than closed into an auditorium. Pretty much any spot in the place has a good view, although this was my first DMB concert off the lawn and in the 400 section. Will try to get even closer next time! Another aspect of the DMB tours that I appreciate is the local poster art that they incorporate into each of the cities they visit. This year's Toronto skyline silhouetted infront of a giant full moon and reflective water is the new favorite in my collection :)

by DTFO on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Once again Dave Matthews Band exceeds expectations and put on an amazing show! At the best venue Toronto has to offer, DMB rocked the Molson Amphitheatre. The band played for nearly 2 and 1/2 hours to a sold out crowd and did not dissapoint. I have seen DMB now 5 times and they are trully one of my favorite bands to see play live. I trully recommend seeing Dave Matthews anytime you can catch them - please come back soon!!

When you go to see Dave Matthews Band you are never leave disappointed. They always play such an amazing show, that really gets the crowd into it. They played a lot of new material but also playing some fan favorites. Not a concert I want to miss when I see they are coming to town.

Dave Matthews was the best concert I have ever been to! Can't wait to see them again! Hopefully in a smaller venue, more personable!

  • DMB does Toronto

by xalumni on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first real concert and I had the time of my life. The band was even better live than any recordings. The venue was professionally managed. The music was nicely put together (one old song + one new song). I will never miss a chance to see these guys again.

  • DMB outside show! nothing is better!

by pinkee on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing. The venue staff were friendly and the site was really clean! We sat on the grass and although it was packed the atmosphere was incredible! The nice part about Molson is the lawn seats are always affordable for whatever show is playing and the big screens can be seen from anywhere. There's no bad spot on the lawn and plenty of room to move around and dance rather than being confined by a row of seats and bodies on either side of you. DMB outside is the best way to see them!!!

  • DMB was fantastic!!!

  • Dave Matthews Rocked!

The concert was awesome! We were out on the lawn which gave us more than enough dancing room:)

  • A MUST SEE... AGAIN AND AGAIN

by Preppyeppy on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

WOW..... Following the 2008 Show at the Molson Ampitheatre I was seriously wondering if i would be attending any future Dame Matthews Band Concerts... 2008 was a let down. Luckily for me I held strong and had faith in DMB to bring it back. Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King is a re-birth of what DMB really is. a great collaboration of musicianship and melody. Bringing a mix of classic DMB songs and their new music 2009 WAS THE BEST DAVE MATTHEWS BAND CONCERT I HAVE EVER ATTENDED. As great as it was seeing him play smaller general admission venues 10 years ago. this concert was the stand out winner when it comes to entertainment and enjoyment. I have a new faith in the Dave Matthews Band as they have returned to their roots. Performing and moving on without Leroy must have been a tough time. but you can still feel his inspiration in the music. Paul Coffin was a great addition for this Tour as he brings a new dimension to DMB but he also does justice to the songs Leroy made his own. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU DMB FOR REALLY PUTTING YOUR HEART AND SOUL BACK INTO THE MUSIC AND THE SHOW!!!!

  • DMB burned down the house!!!

by JDii on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This being my 12th DMB show, it had alot to live up to. I just recently took a road trip to see them in NYC @ MSG which was the tour kickoff. Although Dave and his band were great that night in New York, this Toronto date at Molson Amphitheatre is one I'll remember forever. The weather was amazing and the vibe through out the entire venue was electric. Femi Kuti, who was DMB's support for the night, opened the show and set the mood perfect. I knew nothing of this band before hearing they were opening for Dave just before getting my tickets. A few friends told me the story behind Femi and blew my mind, knowing I had to get there in time to see them. Although the crowed was just flowing in and not really paying attention to the act, I, myself was right into the music putting me right where I needed to be and set me in the right head space to rock out to Dave Matthews band for the next few hours. Dave opened with "Funny the Way it is" the first single off their new record entitled "Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King". This got everyone in a hundred mile ratios dancing their little hearts away. From there, the set list was perfect, brining it up when it needed to be up, and bringing it down when needed to be down. DMB jammed in the right spots and had Carter do one hell of a drum solo just when the crowed wanted a drum solo. They played old tunes, new tunes, but all in all, it didn't matter what they played that night, because everything was working. The band even covered the Talking Heads tune "Burning Down the House", which I didn't even know Dave was playing these days. With all this being said, it was an amazing show and from all 12 times I've seen the DMB, this is definitely number 2 on my list. Number 1 will never be beat, as I had VIP and backstage to another Molson Amphitheatre show. Yes, the band is always great, sometimes less, sometimes more. But I've come to the conclusion about concerts the last little while. It's also about the atmosphere and the people around you. This past June 9th seeing Dave Matthews band at the Molson Amphitheatre had everything I wanted and more.

  • Fantastic Show as usual!

    by Adam42 on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

DMB never fails to put on a great show at the Molson Amphitheater. As usual, Dave was joking around, Carter Beauford was a genius on the drums, and Jeff Coffin was great in his new role as Sax player. There's nothing like summertime, DMB, and the Molson Amp!

  • DMB - best concert ever!

by macoobear on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen DMB in concert every time they have come to Toronto. I was expecting to hear alot from the new CD but from the time they took to the stage - I was in awe! DMB rocked it for over 2.5 hrs - playing new stuff interwined with old songs. I had a great time singing and dancing! It was the best DMB concert for me.

  • A Date with Dave

by ashleyfeduniw on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Although the Molson Amphitheatre is not my favourite place to go to concerts, my sister and I travelled from Winnipeg, Manitoba to see Dave Matthews Band live. The opening band was very entertaining, but, as always, we were anticipating the main event. Excitement gathered all around the Amphitheatre when the band came on stage. The music was incredible (as always) , and you could tell the band members were enjoying themselves up there. I was surprised they didn't play the entire new cd, only a few songs were selected. I must say, I was very honoured to hear and see the powerful, entertaining, magical performance given by the Dave Matthews band and look forward to their next concert I attend.

  • Amazing

Hes amazing every year and the best thing he plays a different set every night so you have no idea what he will play.

  • Dave Matthews 2009 Spring Tour was unbelievable!!!

by Loron on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Having attended previous concerts of the Dave Matthews Band, I know that it was going to be amazing. But every time I go, it is better than the last! What was most impressive was how long they played for, over 2 hours, and the fact that Tim Reynolds was on stage with them! It was definitely a night to remember with older songs interspersed among their new album. Hearing their new work live made me appreciate and like their new album even more!

  • dave and timmy ruled the night

by victorias on 2009-07-14Molson Amphitheatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

My june concert of DMB was absolutely perfect. The skies were set for rain but in the true spirit of dave we all came together and the sunset on the city. Since the passing of LeRoi Moore in August of last year I was interested to see how the band would come together again on stage and play without his amazing sax solos. The band pulled it off without him but some songs just didn't sound right. They honored the GrooGrux King (Moore) with a new amazing album full of songs with a bright sounds and an inspiration voice. The setlist was a great combination of new and old. Great night for a great concert in the city.

  • Dave Matthew Band is UNREAL

I went to see DMB on June 9 2009 and this was the best show I've seen yet! The bands performance was unforgettable.
