About

Dave Matthews Band in Concert

With a career spanning more than 27 years, Dave Matthews Band is one of the most influential bands in rock history. In 1991, vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape and sought the assistance of drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville, VA music scene. 16-year-old bassist Stefan Lessard came on board shortly thereafter. Their infectious, distinctive sound garnered lots of early attention and a die-hard loyal fan base, catapulting the band into one of the most successful touring acts of the past three decades.

The group has since released nine studio albums and numerous live recordings, selling a collective 38 million CDs and DVDs combined since the 1994 release of its major label debut, Under the Table and Dreaming. The GRAMMY®-winning band's many hits include "What Would You Say," "Crash Into Me," "Too Much," "Everyday," "American Baby," "Funny The Way It Is," "Mercy" and "Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)."

Founding member LeRoi Moore passed away in August of 2008 and the band paid tribute to him with 2009's Platinum-certified Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Dave Matthews Band has since welcomed longtime collaborators/touring musicians Jeff Coffin (saxophone), Rashawn Ross (horns) and Tim Reynolds (guitar) into the lineup and - most recently - keyboardist Buddy Strong.

With 2018's Come Tomorrow, Dave Matthews Band became the first group in history to have seven consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In a Critic's Pick review, The New York Times observed, "willed optimism fills the songs on 'Come Tomorrow,' while cynicism and irony are nowhere within earshot... each song notes the fears and sorrows it's determined to overcome. The music does that, with consolation in its melodies and a life force in its rhythms."

Renowned for their live performances, Dave Matthews Band has sold over 24 million tickets since its inception and ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade. The group's Bama Works Fund, established in 1999, has raised more than $52 million dollars for humanitarian and environmental initiatives.

  • Amazing!

    by Chris W on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I have not seen DMB since their last shows at the Gorge in 2016. 2 years off then covid, man we were excited to fly to Toronto from Edmonton to be apart of this event. What an event it was, on a hot sunny day at a venue in its setting and a full house of passionate Canadian DMB fans, the Budweiser stage experience and of course The Dave Mathew’s Band was absolutely wonderful. We will be back!!

  • Amazing Concert - Lawn seating was ok

by Lyssy on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Dave Matthews Band is an exceptional band! A wonderful concert!! Amazing! A beautiful night outdoors as well! Space and layout of the stage and seating is perfect! I just would not do the lawn seating anymore. Just disrespectful behaviour messing up the view by people, very noisy people socializing instead of listening to the music, all are wasted and way too much smoking…too bad… Cheers!!! Stefan

  • Missing old classics

by Brookles on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Waiting and waiting for all the old favourites… love Dave Matthews and I still listen to the amazing originals and missed singing a long… I never got into the vibe and lost in the music. They started really early too - would have been better to come on a bit later when the crowd was warmed up. I was surprised when it started. Love the open lawn but could have raked it and cleaned up… goose poo everywhere… not ideal. Perfect weather, easy washroom access, nice lights and city view.

  • Dave

by Biff Tannen on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

My first time seeing Dave live. I’m sure he’s played all of this ‘hits’ about 4 billion times, but I kind of still wanted to hear all of them. He only played a few of them. Also played these long endings to many of the songs. Like, a few, sure. But there were too many that just dragged on and on at the end and felt like the band was just jamming for themselves. I still give it 4 stars, because I think he genuinely puts a lot of himself into the songs, live.

  • some problems with sound on the lawn

by hi there on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I will always love a Dave concert and the band sounded as great as ever. The vibe on the lawn was a huge party. But just in case it makes a difference, some constructive feedback: I've seen DMB I think 6x now at this venue and this was the only time where the sound mix was really not very good. Dave's voice was always clear over top but the rest of the band were often kind of blurry wall of sound. Often it wasn't possible to hear the soloist instruments, even when they were playing solos. e.g. Tim's guitar on Don't Drink the Water couldn't be heard, and at one point Buddy was playing a long solo and you couldn't make out a single note. Also at times even Dave's voice had audible distortion to it. I think the mix was a little bit louder than it has been in past times and it might have pushed the sound into clipping. This is from the centre lawn area--not sure if it was better elsewhere. Hopefully whatever it was can be fixed for next time. Or maybe it was just the humidity? But I loved the concert!

  • Loved seeing them again

by Ang on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

The sound quality at the venue was terrible. It was so loud it distorted the quality of his voice

  • Poor sound quality

by The Dude T.A. on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I have seen the Dave Matthews Band several times before. Including two other occasions at this venue. This unfortunately was the worst show I have seen them play. After 3 years not seeing them and looking so forward to the show to bring my daughter to see them for her first DMB experience it was utterly disappointing. Sound was poor and we could not understand anything Dave was singing the voice was distorted and unclear all night. Too loud, horns, bass and drums. Guitar was clear, but piano and voice Couldn’t really hear. Very unfortunate since they are one of my all time favourites. We even left 3 songs before the show was over and that I have never done before at a DMB show.

  • Amazing .. as always

by TW on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing Dave live again after Charlotte 2019…. Never disappoints, actually the experience is more amazing each time.

  • Great night!

It was everything I could have hoped for in the first time seeing DMB. Amazing solos and Dave talking between songs was great. After the sun set the place was full of energy and mutual love for DMB.

  • Awesome as always

  • Too loud

by Noah on 2022-06-25Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I’ve been to 20+ DMB shows. I think their sound guy is loosing his hearing. It was way too loud, at least where we were dead centre on the lawns. Maybe we were in a hotspot. I could tell they were sounding great but couldn’t enjoy it as it was literally hurting my ears. I had earplugs, which helped, but the rest of the 7 people in my crew had to suffer.

  • Awesome first time

by Family of 4 on 2019-09-02Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

We have seen DMB before but never at the Gorge. The venue was amazing. Right number of vendors and washrooms so never a line up for anything. Sound was great and of course DMB and the opening acts were stellar. I would encourage a little more info on the website or tickets about show times etc. Just to help make sure people know the details. Will certainly go back to the Gorge and look forward to DMB again!!

  • Great Musicians - failed to play to the crowd

by LS on 2019-07-18Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Great musicians showcasing their skills; however they played very few of their well-known songs and hits and literally jammed for long periods of time - This isn't what I paid for!
