David Byrne showed off his immense musical talent, artistry and quirkiness at a show at the Sony Centre, Toronto. He brought along an amazing band of professional musicians that were truly inspiring. The show was a positive and uplifting experience. Visually it was stunning. Mr. Byrne's voice and guitar work was stellar.

From first minute to last a musical and visual stunner with many Talking Heads classics belted out by large band on bare stage everyone moving and grooving!!

Easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. The staging was innovative, the musicians superb, and David Byrne's energy and enthusiasm ensured a good time for everyone. If you see only one show this year, make it David Byrne's American Utopia tour.

  • This concert just made my Top 10!!!

This concert was striking David Byrne uniqueness and quality. Right from the first moment to the end he captured our attention. The set was spectacular in its set up and lighting was great. It was still all about the music which is brilliant of course. Best concert in a very long time.

  • The most amazing performance I have ever attended

American Utopia was beyond anything I could have hoped for. It was so much more than a concert, but rather a piece of performance art. David Byrne and the amazing artists he assembled on stage blew my mind. See this if you can!

  • Totally blown away!

I haven't been to a Talking Heads concert, but I've watched many videos and always wished I could have seen one. David Byrne's concert totally satisfied this wish!! And it was even better than what I saw in the videos!

  • David Byrne American Utopia show was AMAZING!!!

by JoLaLa on 2018-08-06Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I expected a David Byrne show to be creative and different from any other show but this was way above expectations. It was a truly entertaining, from the musicianship, each number being choreographed with the band dancing and moving around the stage and of course, the great songs - both new and the old Talking Heads songs. The entire audience were up on their feet the whole show and the applause was deafening- WOW! I would see the show again and highly recommend to anyone wanting a new musical experience.

  • Slippery People

by Pdale on 2018-08-06Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show, staging, performances and energy. Brilliant versions of the new stuff and lots of older gems throughout. It’s not easy to get a whole crowd on their feet like that but David Byrne and his talented crew had no problem.

  • Absolutely Amazing

The concert was FANTASTIC! Creative, artistic, amazing music, and the Byrne power is still 100% alive! I would do it all over again! Love the Brazilian drums which added that much more spice to the concert.

  • Byrne-ing the candle at both ends!

by Astroguy on 2018-05-28Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

A signature performance by David Byrne. High energy and sheer enthusiasm to perform by everyone on stage, which translated into enthusiasm in the audience. David danced like nobody was watching. People were on their feet by the second song. A great mix of songs from the new album and classic numbers. It was brave to perform "Lazy" as the second song, but the energy didn't flag. Bassist Bobby Wooten and the percussionists were outstanding, and allowed to hold their own in the sound mix. The guitar solo by Angie Swan was a show in itself. The simple choreography and lighting had a complex undertone. There were two impressive encores and the audience would have stayed for more.

  • On the one hand, David Byrne is entertaining...

by Andronicus on 2018-05-28Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Full points to David Byrne for choreographing an interesting show, and, at our date, people jumped up on the 3rd song and stayed up for the rest of the show. The set is interesting and, even though it is fully choreographed (you have a clear sense that the next show will be exactly like this one), the band still seems to be having fun. It seems petty to say this, given the quality of the show, but i did miss the spontaneous moments a concert can often bring. Still, it was fun, the songs were good, the set was cool, the percussion was fabulous, the bass player added some variety to the unity, and there was a lot of dancing going on.

  • So much fun!

Not as experimental as I expected, but a great, entertaining show. It was wonderful that his new cd came with the purchase of the tickets, so that the audience knew all the music going in. Always great to be able to sing along. Highly recommend this show!

  • David Byrne - just freaking amazing!

by VictoriaFreddie on 2018-05-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

David Byrne and crew put on an energetic show of new and old music. I loved the way that his musicians were like a marching band and were part of the show in so many ways. If you get a chance to see him and his crew, see him! He never fails to amaze me.

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • David Byrne Musician Extrordinaire!

by NicknameME on 2018-05-26Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

When I got the new CD, I was nervous, but I had faith that David is unique and his show would probably be amazing. IT WAS! The opening act was odd, the musicians could definitely play and sing, but their material was repiticious and just odd. As soon as the stage was reset for David, and the first few chords and drums started we knew we were in for a treat. The musicianship, dancing, energy and overall experience were awesome. We thoroughly enjoyed the show and the whole audience was on their feet at the end begging for another song. So refreshing to see an artist really invested in his art. After seeing Joe Bonamassa just dial it in in Edmonton (his show really sucked), David, who seemingly has endless energy, really really perform a SHOW.

3rd time I’ve seen him over the years. Updates the show and makes it more memorable than the last.
