Etran de L'aîr ! 100% Saharan Shredding Guitar
by Fuzz Lewis on 2024-07-27Rating: 5 out of 5I drove all the way from Elphinstone BC for this and it was great. Kicked ass. A Guitar Feast from master craftsmen of Saharan Guitar, just wild, RELENTLESS fractal melodic mosaics of sound, all danceable, all flawless, all spiralling arpeggios syncopating their way from earth up to the Heavens. It was really good. I wish I had been able to go with my original plan of seeing them in Portland and Seattle as well. 90 minutes? 2 hours? i dunno, they played for a long time and it was just about constant in its whirling ascension over the course of the set. Those folks are pure music down to their bones. My mind was blown several times over the course of the set, and I can't eat solid food anymore because my jaw dropped so many times that I just left it there on the floor of the club. Looking forward to the new album in September !!! !!! Local Spokane openers Itchy Kitty were super as well, slightly odd curatorial choice as they were pretty hardcore psych-punk, but their songs and arrangements were all very well crafted and they kicked it out like stars, and were cool folks.
