About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

I've been a fan for about four years, went with my son and daughter... We all loved it...couldn't stop talking about it. The best was when Josh came into the audience to interact....blew my daughters mind

  • Amazing Marianas !

Both Walk off the Earth and Marianas Trench put on a stellar performance. WOTE has such a unique sound they really had the audience engaged and performed well. Vocally, both bands were amazing, especially Marianas who sounds just like they do on their albums. Not a bad seat in the house and played a variety of tracks from all albums. Would definitely see them again and the venue was really good.

  • Amazing show

Amazing show! Only thing I would say is have big screens up for better viewing. But other then that. fantastic. 3 encore songs and Joshua interacted with the audience he even came down right into the crowd! And walk off the earth was amazing as well. Great interaction with the crowd.

  • Marianas Trench with Walk Off The Earth

by wensa on 2016-03-16FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows ever. We did have VIP and I found that it was very 'rushed'...would have liked an extra minute.... 4th time seeing them in 5 months and they put on one of the best shows ever. Was really impressed with Kieran Mercer. Nice guy with great potential to be huge. Walk Off The Earth....was so impressed by them, that I have become a new huge fan. I knew they were good but wow. Would love to see them as a headliner. They could perform for hours and never bore.

I've liked Marianas Trench for a while now, and living in the Niagara Region, I've had ample opportunity to see them (they're always performing for New Year's around here etc etc) but I've never been able to go. This year, I promised myself if they played, I'd make every effort to attend.. Am I ever glad I did. I LOVE this band. Josh Ramsey's vocals are literally unparalleled. There's no one in the world that can sing like him, and the band plays off each other so well. I was definitely most surprised by the amount of singing/harmonizing by Matt Webb, who's phenomenal in his own right. I'm telling you, it was worth every penny. I am even considering going to see them again this Saturday (saw them last Friday) because I cannot get over the vibe.. And the talent!!!

  • Fun night.

Two opening bands. Walk off the earth was fun. Then ,Josh took the stage and even the air. He made everyone know how thankful the band was for there dedication to the band. Covered the entire arena. Went into the audience even flew over top. Great show and needless to say Josh looks amazing.

I attend a ton of concerts (10+ a year) and this is probably the worst I've ever been to. I'm not a big fan of Marianas Trench, but typically even bands I'm not as familiar with I leave a concert liking them more, or at least appreciating their talent. Not the case here. I know a lot of their songs from the radio, but the lead singer brutalized them by singing off-key, and even just stopping singing completely many times, and even the instruments weren't played well enough to really hear the song. I understand they were going for a high energy show, but you need to keep up the music as well as running around stage. Also, I would typically say if you go to a rock show, you have to be cool with a little profanity (it's usually fun to see the artists let loose), but this venue probably had the most young kids of any show I've ever been to, so they maybe should have kept it a little more PG-13 to play to their crowd. Thank goodness for Walk Off the Earth! They did a great job, much better performers and musicians. They did a lot of cool covers, but might have been nicer to get to know more of their original songs. Our seats were on the floor with terrible visibility, so sucked we didn't have a great view of them. Would get seats higher up at this venue next time. Even the other opening act (not sure of their name) was 10 times better than Marianas.

  • Three awesome groups in one night? Amazing!!!!

Walk of the Earth was Amazing!!!! I discovered a group that I hadn't really listened to before and I'm glad I know of them now. Marianas Trench! What can I say, they blew us away!!! They were wild and funny, and just as awesome always!!!! Really worth it.

  • From start to finish - Spectacular!

    by Acorn23 on 2016-03-15FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

From the sound to the lights to the stage presense, everything was great. Overall a really great show. Keep the audience entertained. Great value. Walk off the Earth was great. Sound could have been a little clearer. Marianas Trench was fantastic. From lights to sound, walk through audience, solo on piano, flying! They just kept you wanting more! A truly great performer!

Bought tickets for three granddaughters. They loved the concert and were impressed by the theatrical production. They got a few great mobile shots for me to see. Overall great concert including Walk off the earth. Great seats.

  • energetic blast

Marianas Trench proved to be one of Canada's best bands. I loved all the outfit changes, different guitars, lighting and sound quality. It wasn't too loud in the arena. They put on an amazing show. The meet and greet was a bit fast but understandable due to the large croud. Everything ran smoothly. Can't wait for Marianas Trench to return to hamilton

  • Marianas Trench puts on a great show!

Fun interactive concert. Great mix of new and old songs. Josh's vocals are amazing. His shirt was off most of the show, for those that like the skinny but toned look ;)

  • Fantastic Show. Everyone was incredible

by SeatSnob on 2016-03-14FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

Though the opener seemed a bit out of place, he was still very good and entertaining to watch. Walk off the Earth was absolutely incredible. Great showmanship, entertaining, incredible performance. I had no idea how Mariana's Trench was going to follow that up. But they did. Combined with some aerial trapeze work by the lead singer, MT was stellar. My only complaint is they played none of their original stuff (Shaketramp or Say Anything)~ having been a fan for a long time, it would have been nice to hear one older song.

  • Marianas Trench is back and larger than life!

by soliel on 2016-03-14FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Marianas Trench - What can I say other then it was so good to see them again. Too long since they toured but they made up for it. The musicality, the special effects (the light show and video screen were unparalleled from any concert I've ever seen) and the way they tell a story with their songs is nothing short of amazing. It still blows me away that Josh can hit those notes live.

  • Best Experience Ever!!

Thank you to Core Entertainment for upgrading our tickets to side stage. My 16 and 14 year old daughter had the best time of their lives being able to see Josh and all of Mariannas Trench perform just a few inches from them. Mariannas Trench is very interactive and kind to their fans. You can tell they truly do love them. My girls will never forget that night and I cannot wait to see them return to Hamilton and watch them live again! Thank you for an unbelievable night!

I had an amazing time, I've never experienced anything like it. The meet and greet photo shoot should have been more personal... Not being able to ask for a signature or a hug was disappointing...

  • Dynamic performers!

Both Marianas Trench and Walk off the Earth brought their signature styles in the show. WOTE was so creative and engaging with every song they performed, clearly showcasing their diverse talents. Their set was too short - they deserve their own show!! MT featured Josh Ramsey's unbelievable energy - with every song he was giving his all. Felt like he was only singing to me. The set lists were both on point - some old and some new! Money and time well spent on an amazing night!
