Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

This concert was incredible! All the bands preformed incredibly well, they were all full of energy and completely charming! Marianas Trench really wow'ed the crowd when they preformed their song "desperate measures" in their underwear!!!!! <3 <3 <3

  • Aname, DWW & MT made 1st family concert FANTASTIC!

by Momwhoenjoyedtheshow on 2013-03-28Métropolis - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

The kids are 13 and 14 years old and the combination of the artists just made this a must see event. This was our first family concert that we will never forget. Great music, great fun and the energy was incredible. I was going more for the kids and enjoyed it just as much. They nailed it!

  • Loved it !

They are a great band and now they have gone where no male band has gone creatively. Plus josh has a lot of talent in every way. That being said I have tried to see them for years now and they did more then I thought to see from them. so over all great night.

I became a fan of the Trench after I saw them open for Simple Plan and I was looking forward to their concert, however this was one of the worst concerts I have ever been to. The venue was too big for them. The stage set was minimal and he looked like a suspended fool. Complete waste of my time and money.

When two of my kids and I attended their concert in Edmonton on October 29, 12, I must say this was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. If you are on the line on whether to attend one of their concerts or not, I suggest you do! It is money well spent!

  • Fun Night

by LorBor on 2013-02-09Barrie Molson Center - BarrieRating: 4 out of 5

I didn't know much about Down with Webster before the concert but they were amazing...better live than Marianas Trench. They interacted with the crowd more and their voices were great. We were there to see Marianas Trench and my teenage nieces were in love and I had fun with them. I love concerts but if i am being honest Marianas Trench are not good singers live. They were awkward when they interacted with the crowd and Josh was visibly annoyed with some reoccurring technical difficulties. It was hard to follow the "story" they were trying to tell using little "movies" because the sound was so bad. But they still had some entertaining segments and i am a big fan of their music so i would definitely go again.

  • The seats were amazzzzing!!!!

I bought these seats at the last minute and ended up almost at the stage. The BMC is an awesome place to have concert. My friend and I had a great time. The bands were great and put on an awesome show.

This was hands down the best concert I've ever been to (and I've been to quite a few shows in my short life time). One of the things that made this show stick out for me was the fact that before the headliner (Marianas Trench) came on stage, the security that was as the Barrie Molson Centre, were passing around water in cups that people caught from Down With Webster's set & pouring water into mouths of the people who were crammed in the floor seating section to help keep them hydrated. Never have I been to a show where the security personnel have done this and it was greatly appreciated.

  • Mtrench was amazing! Down With Webster killed it!

by xXClassifiedXx on 2012-11-14Copps Coliseum - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Best Concert I have been too! They were soo interactive and funny. Josh went up in the stands on both sides of the arena and went throw the crowd that bought floor seats. They really included everyone. Had So much fun!! Down With Webster really pumped the crowd up before Marianas Trench came out. They played all their hits and even played their new unreleased single One In A Million.

  • Marianas Trench Live

    by 604MushroomHouse on 2012-11-09Corral - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

Marianas Trench never ceases to disappoint when they perform live. I understand the difference between recording a song in a studio and playing one live, it is very different, it's harder on the vocals but that's what makes this band great; they truly have raw talent. I never miss a chance to see them- but having said that, I don't pay $60 for a ticket to sit around for 4 hours to hear fangirls scream and shout (at inappropriate times). Example: there are songs that require silence and applause at the end, not during the song, especially if it's an emotional piece. This isn't the bands fault, they can't control the audience they capture with their music and fans will be fans, but this really brought down the concert for me. As well, I realize MT is starting to become increasingly recognized, and therefore should focus more on the way they sound (quality of their live performance) rather than the theatrics. I go for the amazing talent; the surprises, stage, setup, entrance/exits just come along with the package. These two reasons are why I've rated them 3 stars vs. 4/5. I definitely recommended going to their concerts, I just hope they take this critique into consideration and improve.

  • Sound Quality Iffy

    by Fencer320 on 2012-11-08Interior Savings Centre - KamloopsRating: 4 out of 5

Down with Webster and Marianas trench both put on a good show show. DWW sound was crisp and amazing, but Mariana's Trench was loud and not nearly and clear as DWW. I think the lead sing was too drunk to sing properly too, it was the last show of the tour, but really, I expected more. They are worth seeing live, a lot of fun, decent price and great venue.

  • Kamloops and the 'Trench

by cynicalprincess on 2012-11-06Interior Savings Centre - KamloopsRating: 3 out of 5

Kamloops SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I drove all the way from Prince George 6h away, and stood in line from 3pm in the afternoon to find out that there was already 100 VIPs along the narrow section of baracades (due to runways on each side). Rather than first come first served there were THREE damn line-ups formed and all let in at once like herding cattle through a damn funnel and it didn't matter when you had gotten there! I am 5 ft tall.. I showed up early in my winter coat for a reason! Could not get into Anami or DWW, and for serious MT kind of ruined the suspense and surprise of making an entrance by chillin out beside the stage jamming to the opening acts, and showing up on stage with booze to prank both opening bands. At times it seemed like a pop show trying to be rock. The teen-aged girls totally related to the BSB, and other random garbage playing between sets but I did not. I love MT, but judging by the opening acts and crowd I would think they're a boy band or a local rap act.. not that they play guitar and write witty songs that could capture an adults attention.

Marianas Trench is one of the most amazing bands, Ever!! This is my 4th time seeing them and each concert is better than the last one.....and this one will be hard to top!! Right from Josh flying out of the jack-in-the-box to the final wave as they are leave the stage!!! These boys know how to put on a concert!! The music was as incredible as it always has been, they played a good selection of their new and old songs and encouraged audience to sing along, Josh, ever the showman, talked, made jokes, jumped into the audience while singing, interact with him!! And lets not forget that wonderful part of the concert when the tighty whities come out!!! Hubba Hubba!! (All 4 of those guys should spend more time on stage dressed like that!! :) I would reccomend Everyone go to a Marianas Trench concert!! If you want to hear good music, enjoy a good show and check out 4 extremely talented and extremely hot looking guys so to your closest Marianas Trench concert!! I went and I have never been happier to have gone to a concert!!

  • Marianas Trench

    by parents1 on 2012-11-05Interior Savings Centre - KamloopsRating: 2 out of 5

This event was for a bunch of young kids, I don't think they needed to see so much drinking on the stage. It's different when it's an adult crowd but the 12 - 16 year olds (and that's the group that knows the band and came for their music) don't need to think that it's ok to drink. These kids now a days have so much to watch out for lets not shove booze in their face. All us parents want to keep their kids safe and away from booze and drugs for as long as possible. To see the singer also almost throw up on stage...really!! Marianas Trech's actions were terrible....they can influence the younger crowd so they should watch themselves. I know it was an added event coming to Kamloops, thanks for that but it wasn't just to be a big party for you....it was for your audience!!
