About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

All the performers were unforgettable! I already liked dww and they had to be the most interactive to get us pumped for Marianas Trench! Jesse Giddings was the perfect start to it all...Then when Josh came out flying, that was amazing to see and they really got the crowd going with all they're songs!!! You definitely have to see these guys in concert!

    Amazing Live

by TrencherChar on 2012-08-16Stampede Corral - Calgary

Marianas Trench is one of the most amazing bands live. Josh Ramsay has such talent, engaging the audience while still doing an amazing live vocal show. The rest of the band, Matt, Mike and Ian are also engaging to the audience and all the boys hold such immense talent that you will become a Trencher for life just by seeing them once. I will never miss another live show in my area again and will even travel to see them. AMAZING performers.

Marianas Trench saved the best for last!!!!

by Jackaboo on 2010-12-01DIRECT ENERGY CENTRE - TORONTO

I took my son to a music festival this summer and saw this band for the first time, I quite enjoyed them. i promised him that if they played an indoor venue that I would take him to see them again. The November show was the 4th time we had seen them and by far the best show....they left nothing undone. It was truly one of the best performances I have ever seen. For that I thank them.

Marianas Trench were amazing! They sang all their most popular songs and really put on a show and got the crowd pumped up. The only problem was the length of the concert. A lot of people had to leave before it was over because the last train was at 12! They started late and then made us wait almost an hour before Stereos came on because there was too much pushing in the front. If people were mad about being pushed they should have gone and sat on the benches, not made everyone else move back. Other than that it was great. The opening bands were pretty good, especially Stereos.

    Amazingly Fun Night

by JITTERBUG on 2010-11-18DIRECT ENERGY CENTRE - TORONTO

One of the best nights my best friend and i had in a while. A little shaky at first, the first band and the stereos' had a small mic glitch, but honestly, everything else was just awesome! It was really cool that they had the two separate sides set up for the 19+ keeping the drinking separate from the young-ins. MT are one of the best groups out there, cant wait till they are back in toronto again!

Concert was amazing. Especially loved that illScarlett came out and signed autographs and also handed out free CD's!!! How cool is that! Marianas Trench - amazing! Really loved the fact that they came off stage and sang in from of us that were in the front rows! Wow! Got some greats close up pics! Loved the Stereos ! What more can I say. Unforgettable night would love to go again! Can't remember the name of the girl from Toronto that got to sing on stage. She did such an amazing job and her voice was angelic! Way to go and look forward to hearing more from her. Hopefully she gets noticed career wise!

    The Best!!!

by gratefulmom on 2010-11-15DIRECT ENERGY CENTRE - TORONTO

An amazing concert, and very well organized. This is the 4th time I have accompanied my daughter and her friends to a Mariana's Trench concert, and each and every time has been great, but this time was THE BEST!!! ill Scarlet and Stereos were good. Mariana's Trench put on a fantastic show. They are so talented and entertaining, their music vocals are superb, Equally impressive were the security guards and organizers. No parent enjoys watching young kids being crushed by the crowd, and security having to pull people out from the front because they cannot take the pressure any longer. This time it was wonderful to see how something was actually done, very effectively, to move the crowd backwards, and opening op more space on the floor and in the stands. Great job. Also very appreciated to watch security and police giving water to the thirsty fans in the crowd. The venue was excellent with plenty of seating as well as floorspace, and the fact that we could all line up indoors was a HUGE bonus. THANKS!!!

    Mariana's Trench rocked!!

by JuBo on 2010-11-15DIRECT ENERGY CENTRE - TORONTO

The venue seemed to be disorganized and somewhat unprepared, but the concert was awesome!! All three groups put on a fabulous, energetic show. Kudos to all :) Only drawback...we waited for Josh & the guys to come out & sign autographs, but they never showed :( C'est La Vie, we got pics with the lead singer of illScarlett, so all was not lost!!

yea, the concert WOULD HAVE been amazing...

by Kat14 on 2010-11-15direct energy center - Toronto

yes, it would have been AMAZING! except for the fact they scheduled the concert for EXACTLY the same time as the Royal Winter Fair...so i couldnt see them. i would have bailed on the Royal Winter Fair (becuz i LOVE marianas trench! ♥) but my grandparents got tickets 6 months in advance to get good seats...so i did the right thing and went with them. but i am FREAKING OUT that i was actualy in the same building as marianas trench but i COULDNT SEE THEM!!!! i was too busy making my family happy by watching horses jump over sticks!! i think that people SHOULD NOT schedule a concert on THE SAME DAY and THE SAME TIME when another major thing is going on there.
